A low pressure impactor is an impaction device to separate airborne particles into aerodynamic size classes at low pressure condition. We designed a two-stage low-pressure impactor to classify submicron sized environmental aerosols. Performance evaluation was carried out for stages 1 and 2 by using an electrical method. Monodisperse liquid dioctyl sebacate (DOS) particles were generated using evaporation-condensation process followed by electrostatic classification using a DMA (differential mobility analyzer). The test particles were in the range of 0.08∼0.8$\mu\textrm{m}$. For the evaluation of the impactor we used two electrometers; one was connected to the impaction plate of the impactor and the other was to the Faraday cage used as a backup filter. The effect of polydispersity of test aerosols on the performance was investigated. The results showed that the experimental 50-% cutoff diameters at each impactor's operation pressure were 0.53 and 0.187$\mu\textrm{m}$ for stages 1 and stage 2, respectively. The effects of operation pressure on the cutoff diameter and the steepness of collection efficiency curves were also investigated.
An experimental investigation on the reinforcing bar corrosion and relationshid of reinforcing bar and concrete bond strength has been conducted to establish the allowable limit of rust in the construction field. The reinforcing bars used in this study were rusted before embedding in concrete. The first component of this experiment is to make rust of reinforcing bar rust artificially based on Faraday's theory at certain rates such as 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10% of reinforcing bar weight. For estimation of the amount of rust by weight, Clarke's solution and Shot blasting were adopted and compared. Parameters include 240 and 450kg/㎠ of compressive strengths and diameter of reinforcing bar (16, 19 and 25mm) corresponding development length for pull-ort test. And, pull-out tests were carried. out according to KSF 2441 and ASTMC 234 to investigate the effect of the corrosion rate on reinforcing bar-concrete bond behavior. It is found from the test results that the test techniques for corrosion of bar used in this study is relatively effective and correct test method. Results shows that up to 2% of rust increases the bond strength regardless of concrete strength and diameter of reinforcing bar like the existing data. It might be because of the roughness from rust. As expected, the bond strength increases as compressive strength of concrete increases and the diameter of bar decreases.
An fine silver particle has a variety of uses, such as in killing micrograms and as catalysts. Many techniques have been used for the production of the fine particles. Faraday cell, consisting of two silver electrodes in an electrolyte, is unique, but it is hard to get a very fine particle by this method. A finer silver nano-particle producing cell, utilizing a dielectric bed as a lower electric current and higher field controlling means, has been proposed and investigated. The I-V characteristics of the cell and effect of the dielectric bed on the producing finer silver nano-particles have been investigated. The I-V characteristics of the cell with the dielectric bed were different from that of the same system without the bed, due to the increased cell resistance and elevated electric field intensity. It is found that the proposed cell with the dielectric bed can produce finer silver nano-particles effectively, which, however, can be used as one of effective fine silver nano-particle producing means.
An experimental investigation on the relationship between corrosion of reinforcement and bond strength in pull-out test specimen has been conducted to establish the allowable limit of rust of reinforcement in the construction field. The reinforcing bars used in this study were rusted before embedded in pull-out test specimen. The first component of this experiment is to make reinforcing bar rust electrically based on Faraday's theory to be 2, 4, 6, 8 and $10\%$ of reinforcing bar weight. For estimation of the amount of rust by weight, Clarke's solution and shot blasting were adopted and compared. Parameters also include 24 and 45MPa of concrete compressive strengths and diameter of reinforcing bar (16, 19 and 25mm). Pull-out tests were carried out according to KS F 2441 and ASTM C 234. Results show that up to $2\%$ of rust increases the bond strength regardless of concrete strength and diameter of reinforcing bar. As expected, the bond strength increases as compressive strength of concrete increases and the diameter of bar decreases.
This paper describes a new magnetization method for non-destructive testing with magneto-optical sensor (denoted as MO sensor) which have the following characteristic : high observation sensitivity, independence of the crack orientation, and precise imaging of a complex crack geometry such as multiple cracks. When a magnetic field is applied normally to the surface of a specimen which is significantly larger than its defects, approximately the same magnetic charge per unit area occurs on the surface of the specimen. If there is a crack in the specimen, magnetic charge per unit area has the same value at the bottom of the crack. The distribution of the vertical component of the magnetic flux density, B$\_$Z/, is almost uniform over the no-crack area (denoted as B$\_$Z,BASE/), while the magnetic flux density is smaller in the surroundings of the crack(denoted as B$\_$Z,CRACK/) If B$\_$Z, BASE/ is a bit larger than the saturated magnetic flux density of the MO sensor (B$\_$s/) , then small magnetic domains occur over the crack area and a large domain over the non-crack area because B$\_$Z,CRACK/ is smaller than B$\_$s/.
An electrochemical reduction of a mixture of metal oxides was conducted in a LiCl molten salt containing 3 wt% $Li_2O$ at $650^{\circ}C$. The oxide reduction was carried out by applying a current to an electrolysis cell, and the $Li_2O$ concentration was analyzed during each run. The concentration of $Li_2O$ in the electrolyte bulk phase gradually decreases according to Faraday's law due to a slow diffusion of the $O^{2-}$ ions. A hindrance effect of the unreduced metal oxides was observed for the reduction of the uranium oxide. Cs, Sr, and Ba of high heat-load fission products were diffused into and accumulated in the salt phase as predicted with thermodynamic consideration.
An electrical cascade impactor is a multistage impaction device to separate airborne particles into aerodynamic size classes using electrical method. We designed a real-time three-stage electrical low-pressure impactor, which is proper to nanometer sized environmental aerosols. Performance evaluation was carried out for stage 1 and 2. The monodisperse liquid dioctyl sebacate (DOS) particles were generated using condensation-evaporation followed by electrostatic classification using DMA (differential mobility analizer) for particles with diameters in the range of $0.04{\sim}0.8{\mu}m$. The evaluation of the electrical impactor is based on the use of two electrometers, one connected to the impaction plate of the impactor, and the other to the faraday cage as backup filter. The results showed that the experimental 50% cutoff diameters in the operation pressure were 0.53 and $0.12{\mu}m$ for stage 1 and stage 2. The effect of operation pressure on the cutoff diameter and the steepness of collection effcieicy curves is investigated.

The Electrical Charge generated by friction in flowing insulating oil can create hazadous accidents. Neutralization of static charges in the oil during transportation is an obvious method of overcoming the problem of internal electric charge. It is known that SCR(Static Charge Reducer) can neutralize much of this charge by the needle electrode and mixing it with the original charge. In our experiment, a filter to generate static charge was set just befor a measurement pipe, and streaming current from the filter to the earth $I_s$, current from the electrode to the earth $I_e$ and current from the receiving tank to the earth $I_f$ were measured in a steady state. As a result, charge density and needle electrode current increases with increasing of oil temperature. Charge elimination rate decreases with increasing of oil flow rate, and increases with increases of oil temperature. Faraday Cage current decreases with increasing of oil temperature.
Beta rays emitted from tritium in titanium tritide film were simulated with cathode rays of a scanning electron microscope to investigate the effect of beta rays from tritium on semiconductor devices. The cathode ray currents, which vary with the change of applied energy and beam spot size, were measured with Faraday cup. The current from the semiconductor device irradiated with cathode rays at various conditions was measured. The cathode ray current increased with the increase of spot size to a maximum then decreased when the spot sized increased further. The magnitude of current produced in the semiconductor device is proportional to the magnitude of cathode ray current. The magnitude of cathode ray current at each energy level was matched to the intensity of beta ray to simulate the tritium beta ray spectrum. Then the semiconductor characteristics were analyzed with I-V curves.
