  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and periodontal disease in postmenopausal women using data from the 4th and 5th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A total of 5,482 postmenopausal women aged 45~75 years were included as study subjects in the final analysis. The HRT group comprised 1,035 postmenopausal women who had received HRT for at least one month, and the non-HRT group comprised 4,447 postmenopausal women who did not receive HRT. The chi-square test was used to confirm the bivariate relationship between the variables. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was used to adjust for covariance (age, education, family income, body mass index, age of menopause, alcohol, smoking, dental visit <1 per year, use of oral care products, and frequency of tooth brushing per day). After adjusting for all covariates, HRT was found to be associated with periodontal disease. In particular, the relationship between HRT and periodontal disease was more evident in older women and women younger than 45 years of menopausal age. The relationship between HRT and periodontal disease was stronger in women who brushed their teeth less than 3 times per day, women without regular oral examination, and women who did not use oral hygiene products. The results of this study confirmed the importance of actively considering hormone therapy when determining policy recommendations for postmenopausal women. Especially, health programs such as HRT, regular dental examination, and oral care are needed for older women who have undergone premature menopause.

  • The numbers of the elderly who suffer Empty Nest Syndrome have been accelerated as an aging population has increased vastly and nuclear families have been a dominating family type in modern Korean society. To make the elderly get out of this phenomenon and live actively, the scheme of converting their existing houses into shared houses was set as a hypothetical solution in this study, and finding out the responses of the elderly who owns their own houses is the purpose of the study. A small workshop panel method was used and the elderly aged 55 years upwards took part and they own a detached house that is relatively large for the elderly or the elderly couple to live alone. The workshop was consisted of 3 stages: 1. a survey 2. an interview 3. a site visit. Through this, problems that the elderly have been experiencing within their houses were looked into and the responses of the elderly on converting their houses to shared houses by introducing developed schematic plans. As a result, positive responses from the house owners were carried out based on the fact that subsidies from the government on house renovation and tenants matching programs are supported. Shared houses could provide home owners economical support with rents and help them to feel less lonely. This is one way of supporting the elderly to live and age actively in their later lives. Therefore, this idea should be established in connection with preparing aging, aged, and super-aged society.

  • The objectives of this research are (1) to identify characteristics and needs of the recipients of home care, and type of services (2) to examine the factors that predicts the degrees of recipients' satisfaction. This study uses the data based on the responses of 490 recipients selected randomly from 22 home care centers. The results show that recipients have higher frequencies in age of 60+, disabled status, difficulty with ADL, IADL items, no family, and lowest class. And the type of services offered by home care centers have highest frequencies in home maker services. Recipients' attitude toward home care services is "helpful," but they are not satisfied with the frequency of visit. The study found that disabled status, difficulty with ADL, IADL, health services, and home maker services are negatively related with degrees of recipients' satisfaction. Based on the findings, the study would conclude that home care policy should be recipients' need-based, developing systematic: need assessment tool. Expanded home health caring must be required for the disabled elderly.

This study aimed to furnish basic data for improving the oral health of the elderly by conducting research into the relationship between denture satisfaction and the perceived oral health status of elderly people with removable dentures. The study performed research involving 246 elderly people who were living in Jeonju and Iksan, jeonbuk, and who were 65 years old or over from August 1 to December 5, 2007. The research method was a face-to-face interview. 1. The denture satisfaction of respondents for the research averaged $3.74{\pm}0.69$, and there was a significant difference in their satisfaction according to the level of education, the cohabitant family type, the procurement of living expenses, the performance of leisure activity, the period of current denture use, the number of denture changes, the experience during a dentist visit for denture maintenance, the experience of restricted activity due to annual oral diseases, and the opinions about denture prices. 2. 48.8% of respondents answered that their oral health status was good, and there was a significant difference in their satisfaction according to the procurement of living expenses, the total period of denture use, the period of current denture use, the number of denture changes, the experience of restricted activity due to annual oral diseases, and the opinions about denture prices. 3. The most highly influential variable affecting denture satisfaction was the opinions about denture prices(R=33.7%). 4. The most highly influential variable affecting the perceived oral health status was the educational level(R=17.3%). 5. As a result of analyzing the relationship between denture satisfaction and perceived oral health status, more respondents were satisfied with their dentures the more they thought their oral health status was in good shape.

  • There are few reports about the beliefs of psoriasis patients related to their disorder and therapy modalities except for the medical ones. We aimed to investigate the beliefs of psoriasis patients about their disorders, where they had attended therapies unrelated to dermatologists and what modality of unconventional therapies they used for psoriasis in Turkey. The study was performed on 141 psoriasis patients. The age, sex, education status and the number of visits to the dermatology clinics were recorded. How the patients decided to visit the dermatology clinic (themselves, directed by others), where they attended for treatment of psoriasis outside of the dermatologist, what they think about the causes of their disease and what they used for treatment of psoriasis were asked. The mean age of the patients was $33.44{\pm}15.13$ years. The patients whose ages were over 30 years significantly more went to dermatology clinics. 68.1% of the patients attended the dermatology clinic based on the individual decision, 18.4% were directed by family members and 5.7% by friends. 45.4% of the patients believed that stress was the cause of their disease. 54.6% of the patients had used at least one type of unconventional therapy for psoriasis. The most frequently used unconventional therapy forms were herbal (24.1%) and spiritual therapies (22%). One conclusion is psoriasis patients need education about their diseases. Dermatologists should have information about the tendencies of the patients and approach the patients with sensitivity and empathy and give objective knowledge about psoriasis.

The purposes of this study were 1) to examine the purchase behavior of apparel products and hairdressing services of elderly consumers, 2) to investigate the purchase behavior in the apparel store and hairdressing shop on lifestyle types. Data were collected from 853 women in their 50s and 60s living in Busan. Data were analyzed by frequency analysis, descriptive analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach#s alpha, Chi-square analysis, cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA and Duncan test using SPSS WIN 12.0. The results of the study were as follows: First. when elderly consumers purchased apparel product, they were likely to use credit cards, to shop alone or with friends at a department store, and to use the store as information source. In their purchases of hairdressing services, they tended to visit the near shop for a permanent service bimonthly and to depend on their past experiences for hairdressing. Second, elderly consumers were classified by the lifestyle into the Active self-fidelitist, Economy family-oriented, and Passive-stagnant. The purchase behaviors in the apparel store and hairdressing shop were different among lifestyle types. • Copper sulfate is a copper compound used widely in the chemical and agriculture industries. Most intoxication occurs in developing countries of Southeast Asia particularly India, but rarely occurs in Western countries. The early symptoms of intoxication are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps, and the most distinguishable clue is bluish vomiting. The clinical signs of copper sulfate intoxication can vary according to the amount ingested. A 75-year old man came to our emergency room because he had taken approximately 250 ml copper sulfate per oral. His Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score was 14 and vital signs were blood pressure 173/111 mmHg, pulse rate 24 bpm, respiration rate 24 bpm, and body temperature $36.1^{\circ}$ .... Arterial blood gas analysis (ABGa) showed mild hypoxemia and just improved after 2 L/min oxygen supply via nasal cannula. Other laboratory tests and chest CT scan showed no clinical significance. Three hours later, the patient's mental status showed sudden deterioration (GCS 11), and ABGa showed hypercarbia. He was arrested and his spontaneous circulation returned after 8 minutes CPR. However, 22 minutes later, he was arrested again and returned after 3 minutes CPR. The family did not want additional resuscitation, so that he died 5 hours after ED visit. In my knowledge, early deaths are the consequence of shock, while late mortality is related to renal and hepatic failure. However, as this case shows, consideration of early definite airway preservation is reasonable in a case of supposed copper sulfate intoxication, because the patients can show rapid deterioration even when serious clinical manifestation are not presented initially.

In "initial development" stage(1976 - the mid-80's), Everland become inclined the characteristics of an amusement park by constructing the amusement facilities in the Flower Center(botanical garden). In "growth" stage(the mid-80's - the early 90's), Everland had full grown to the amusement park and inclined to a theme park. In "maturity" stage(the early 90's - the mid-90's), many visitors were not motivated to re-visit Everland because the facilities and events did not change often. Therefore, Everland makes plans for multiple theme park. In "rejuvenation" stage(after the mid-90's), Everland has practiced the plans for multiple theme park and has become the family and accommodating-oriented theme resort park. Since 1976 when Everland was opened, it has evolved from an amusement park to a theme park by creating various and continuous innovations in facilities and events.
