  • Korean society is experiencing rapid changes which are certain to shape the lives of the older people and their families. So, the purpose of this study was to improve the quality of the elderly welfare service in Korea. Even though the interest about the elderly welfare in Korea is rapidly on the increase, the reality of Korean Society still leaves much to be desired, quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Pay attent to this point, now going to grasp the situation of not the handicapped elder people but the general elder people actual life condition and demand for welfare. So this study focused on the demand of not out-of home service but in-home care service. It was based on the data from by Korea National Statistical Office, having observed 6,139 elderly people. The results were as follows. They hope to get the elderly welfare services about health examination service, nursing survice, supporting service for household. That was, the most of them wanted in-home care service than out-of home care service. To ensure effective care to the elderly, it needed development and settlement of welfare service in face of their daily living. And, even though they recognized that they should cover the elderly life expenses themselves, the rate was hit that indicated their adult children as a parents supporter. This means that we should consider not only to the elder people but also to the family which contained the old people as the elderly welfare service. As a remedy, we can find the cooperation between elder welfare service at the social welfare organization and counsel, education at the family strengthen center. To improve the quality of the elderly welfare service in Korea, the elderly welfare service should focus not only on the physical and spiritual health maintenance but also active understanding living environment and growing ability to arbitrate between individual and living.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest menu pricing strategy based on understanding about customer perceived value of products and services. The technique known as PSM (Price Sensitivity Measurement) was used for analysis of price sensitivity for 3 menu items of a family restaurant in Seoul. A questionnaire was developed through literature review and modified after pilot test. Questionnaires for the main survey were distributed to 250 customers on their visit to the restaurant, and a total of 138 questionnaires were used for analysis (55.2%). The statistical analysis of price sensitivity was conducted using PSM, and descriptive analyses were conducted using SPSS Win (12.0). The main results of this study were as follows: the price sensitivity of beef tenderloin steak was higher than two other menus and the stress range of teriyaki chicken was almost 0, that is, the price sensitivity of teriyaki chicken was very low. Present menu prices of 3 menu items were within the range of acceptable prices, but had some distances from the optimal pricing point. From the result of this study, it was concluded that price adjustment or price promotion strategy would be effective for increase in sales of beef tenderloin steak, and marketing strategies to enhance consumers' perceptions of value should be conducted for all menu items by situations. Overall, PSM technique could be a helpful tool for researchers and managers of foodservice organizations to understand how consumers' perceptions of value are affected by the interaction of price and quality.

  • Background: The clinical significance of lip-tie, or a tethered maxillary frenulum, remains under debate. Clinicians and parents are often perplexed when deciding whether procedures available to relieve a seemingly tight or severe maxillary frenulum are needed. Purpose: No previous studies have assessed the consequences of not subjecting a tethered maxillary frenulum in newborns to surgical intervention. This study aimed to contribute the first prospective trial on this topic with a relatively extended follow-up of these newborn infants. Methods: This prospective observational questionnaire-based cohort trial was performed in a community setting and aimed to determine whether lip-tie is associated with an increased likelihood of eventual feeding or oral disorders. Results: The convenience sample comprised of 61 consecutively arriving infants with concomitant tethered frenula who were treated at the clinic for various reasons. This cohort was compared with a random sample of 66 age-matched children for a mean follow-up period of 6.42 years. Infants undergoing oropharyngeal procedures were excluded. Awareness of a deviation in oral structures was reported by 18% of the study group versus 0% of the controls. Mothers participating in the study group (24.6%) less frequently recalled painful nipples or discomfort during breastfeeding than those in the control group (47.0%) (P<0.01). There were no intergroup differences in other types of feeding difficulty, dental hygiene, pronunciation, or speech development. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that a tethered labial frenulum is not associated with an increase in breastfeeding disturbances or oral disorders. These data encourage clinicians to question the need to intervene in cases of tethered maxillary frenula.

The most common reason given for not receiving screening was lack of time (21.4%). The factors found to be positively associated with uptake (p value <0.05) were as follows: number of years of school attendance (OR=1.56, 95%CI:1.02-2.38), animistic religious beliefs (OR=0.55, 95%CI:0.33-0.91), a previous pregnancy (OR=6.20, 95%CI:1.36-28.35), receipt of information about cervical cancer screening (OR=2.25, 95%CI:1.35-3.76), and perceived risk of developing cervical cancer (OR=1.83, 95%CI:1.25-2.67). Conclusions: To promote the uptake of cervical screening, Hmong hilltribe women need to know more about cervical cancer and cervical cancer screening, and access to screening services should be provided in conjunction with existing everyday services, such as family planning and routine blood pressure monitoring or diabetes services.

  • BIDANI is the action-research program. BIDANI aims to be truly a people's program embodying their own activities and aspiration. BIDANI sees an integrated development approach at the community level with participatory services embodied in a Barangay Integrated Development Plan(BIDP) designed by the people themselves. Community situational analysis is conducted by the people to identify the priority problems and potential resources in the barangay. Participatory planning, using the “bottom up” apporach, is exercised to formulate a BIDP. Proper motivation and advocacy encourage barangay people's participation. Accessibility and efficiency in the use of various services and resources of government and private agencies increase. Family groups who are at high-risk to malnutrition become aware of the importance of nutrition through their participation in development program activities. Integration of political and socio-economic concerns at the lowest level is operationalized. Implementation and sustainability of the program on a wider scale from a model project to a model program is facilitated through institutionalization at the municipal/city level with the mayor as the project director. “Top to bottom” planning through a City/Municipal Integrated Development Program(C/MIDP) interacts with “bottom up” planning at the barangay level. The establishment of a local Training School for Barangay Development(TSBD) in each municipality and city for continuing education of indigenous village workers and barangay people is a vital component for success and viability. The role of non-political entities such as academic institutions and non-government organizations, as catalytic agents of development, is stressed.

  • The world is changing drastically by digital information technology and ubiquitous networking. Meanwhile, with the demographic avalanche, South Korea officially became an 'ultra-aging society' in 2026. Simultaneously, this demographic change will also stimulate a cultural climate which facilitates the formation and dissemination of 'slow culture' from the existent urban 'fast culture' which has been weakening the retirement living. One of the fundamental connections with the slow movement appears in the cooking and dining area. With this point of view, this study aims to identify the needs and behaviors of the elderly in current restaurants and a digitally planned multi-purpose one for the future. Small group workshop was employed for this study. In order to elicit detailed information from the elderly group members, scenarios were developed. A group facilitator kept the discussion on track by asking a series of open-ended questions meant to stimulate discussion. As the results, it was revealed that the elderly were interested in digitally planned restaurant which provides one-stop service including entertainment activities, health related contents and socializing with family. Even though this study took restaurant scenarios, the ideas in them also provide holistic perspectives on the direction of marketing and planning strategies on various future environments and services.
