Robot programming often sparks students' interest in programming, but it is not easy for them to program both procedure and reactivity of robot movements that are essential requirements. In this study, we reviewed in detail a new programming language, State-Based Squeak. It allows novice students to implement both procedure and reactivity of robots easily. The effect of this new language on robot programming education was also examined using a group of 28 middle school students. According to the results of analyzing the students' understanding of programming, reading and programming abilities the group that used State-Based Squeak (the experimental group) showed a higher completion ratio than the other (control) group. The significance of this study is that a robot programming language has been developed that addresses the concepts of both procedure and reactivity in such a way that middle school students can more easily learn how to program robots, something that is often difficult to attempt even for professional programmers.
Chemistry laboratory class was produced for senior high school freshmen with the cooperation of university staffs, high school teachers and the university students. Although the students who will take the lab class are senior high school freshmen, we decided to prepare four experiments that are simple and have highly visible reactions or transformation. That is, 1) Water purification, 2) Surface modification, 3) Briggs-Rauscher reaction, and 4) Polymer synthesis and characterization. After the safety guideline and experiment instructions by the faculty staffs, two teaching assistants (TAs) supervised each experiment. Since taking a direct part in it will provide stronger impact than only being one who is just watching the experiment, all experiments contained some process that the high school students must handle the reagents, tools or the equipment, by themselves. Although, the operation performed by the students was limited to a series of simple actions, the various unique phenomena presented by the experiments impressed the students. The lab class was fruitful not only for high school students, but also good for university students. The lab class provided good opportunity for them to improve the abilities to teach and guide someone.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally but has an even more significant impact in developing countries. Pakistan has the highest prevalence among Asian countries. A general lack of public awareness regarding the disease often results in late diagnosis and poor treatment outcomes. The literacy rate of the Southern Punjab (Pakistan) is low compared to its Northern part. It is therefore vital that university students and especially medical students develop a sound knowledge about the disease so that they can spread awareness to others who may be less educated. This study therefore considers current knowledge and understanding about the early signs of breast cancer amongst a study group of medical and non-medical university students of the Southern Punjab, Pakistan. A cross-sectional descriptive analysis of the university students was carried out using a self-administered questionnaire to assess their awareness of breast cancer from March to May 2014. A total of 566 students participated in this study, out of which 326 were non-medical and 240 were from a medical discipline. Statistical analysis was carried out using Graph Pad Prism Version 5 with a significance level set at p<0.05. The mean age of the non medical and medical participants was 23 (SD 2.1) and 22 (SD 1.3) years, respectively. Less than 35% students were aware of the early warning signs of the breast cancer development. Knowledge of medical students about risk factors was significantly better than the non medical ones, but on the whole was insufficient. Our study indicated that knowledge regarding breast cancer was generally insufficient amongst the majority of the university students (75% non-medical and 55% medical) of Southern Punjab, Pakistan. This study highlights the need to formulate an awareness campaign and to organize conferences to promote breast cancer awareness among students in this region.

This paper presents the maritime education and training at CMA. There are two kinds of Federal Maritime Academies, i.e. U. S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) and U. S. Coast Guard Academy, which are supported by federal government and six State Maritime Academies operated by each state. CMA is a unique campus of the California State University(CSU). A specialized education combining classroom instruction, hands-on experience and professional development prepare students for a successful career in international business and logistics, maritime policy, engineering, technology or in the maritime and transportation industries. All students of CMA, under licensed faculty supervision, learn and train aboard the Training Ship Golden Bear during a two-month training cruise in their first year at CMA. Second-year students participate in a land-based cooperative, or sail on a commercial cruise or the Training Ship GOLDEN BEAR depending on their major. Third-year maritime licensing option students take a final cruise on the training ship, while other students participate in an additional land-based cooperative. In their senior year, students take license exams to complete graduation requirements.
With the increase of employment pressure in China and the need of economic transformation, chinese government started to encourage college students to innovate and start their businesses to relieve the employment pressure. Due to the lack of entrepreneurship ability, the success rate of college students' entrepreneurship is not high. Therefore, based on the grounded theory and qualitative research methods, this paper focuses on the entrepreneurial ability of college students, selects college students who have started their own businesses in jilin university of China as interview objects, and summarizes the original data obtained in the in-depth interview for analyzing the connotation of college students' entrepreneurial ability, and puts forward the concept model of Chinese college students' entrepreneurial ability. The results show that the entrepreneurial ability of college students consists of driving force, management ability, entrepreneurial endowment, and potential ability. This study has certain guiding significance for universities to carry out entrepreneurship education.
A binary integer programming model is proposed for a complex timetabling problem in a university faculty which conducts various degree programs. The decision variables are defined with fewer dimensions to economize the model size of large scale problems and to improve modeling efficiency. Binary matrices are used to incorporate the relationships between the courses and students, and the courses and teachers. The model includes generally applicable constraints such as completeness, uniqueness, and consecutiveness; and case specific constraints. The model was coded and solved using Open Solver which is an open-source optimizer available as an Excel add-in. The results indicate that complicated timetabling problems with large numbers of courses and student groups can be formulated more efficiently with fewer numbers of variables and constraints using the proposed modeling framework. The model could effectively generate timetables with a significantly lower number of work hours per week compared to currently used timetables. The model results indicate that the particular timetabling problem is bounded by the student overlaps, and both human and physical resource constraints are insignificant.

The improvement of abilities of utilizing information as well as the education of information is coming to the fore as a really significant matter for students living in knowledge and information-oriented society of the 21st century. In this respect, this study aims to develop a teaching and learning model for technical high school students who need mon desire and comprehensive faculty of their learning and to testify its efficiency by relating their abilities of using in with their curriculum. We propose a teaching and learning model, LT&T, which lets the students have academic interests and perform continuously learning activities by helping students themselves to find their achievements of learning and their learning ability. The LT&T teaching and learning model, proposed in this paper, is developed by combining LT and Tournaments, and it enhances individual several intellectual powers, and also activates the academic interests to increase the effects of learning. After we had a class using the LT and the LT&T, we conducted a sample survey of which results show that learning effects of LT&T is better than that of LT by students of more 80%.
At a time when mathematics is becoming more important in our everyday lives and more relevant in applications in industry and the emerging technologies, there are signs of a decrease in numbers of students and their interest in the subject. Teachers must be encouraged to take a new approach to generating enthusiasm amongst students by showing them that mathematics is an integral part of the future. To achieve this, opportunities for renewal of teachers' knowledge and updating of skills should be made available. In this paper, emphasis is placed on mathematics in the real world and how it can be used to develop the more general skills such as self-teaching and communication which are an essential part of preparation for entry into higher education or the workplace.

E-learning systems have proliferated in recent years, particularly in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic. For kids, there isn't a specific online learning platform available, though. To do this, new conceptual models of training and learning software that are adapted to the abilities and preferences of end users must be created. Young pupils: those in kindergarten, preschool, and elementary school are unique subjects with little research history. From the standpoint of software technology, young students who have never had access to a computer system are regarded as specific users with high expectations for the functionality and interface of the software, social network connectivity, and instantaneous Internet communication. In this study, we suggested creating an electronic learning management system that is web-based and appropriate for primary school pupils. User-centered design is the fundamental technique that was applied in the development of the system that we are proposing. Test findings have demonstrated that students who are using the digital environment for the first time are studying more effectively thanks to the online learning management system.
In this research, we analyzed the effects of the independent research program on the educational experience of undergraduate students in a research-centered university setting. The independent research program was developed to provide undergraduate students with opportunities to engage in self(student)-initiated, self-regulated and self-responsible research projects. We hypothesized that outcomes of the program would be utilized as a baseline information in formulating the strategies for improvement of the undergraduate curriculum. Eighty three undergraduate students participated in the program during the period of 2003-2009. In order to evaluate results of the program, we carried out survey and in-depth interviews with the participants. According to the participant reports, the independent research program has helped them to develop self-managed research abilities and problem solving skills. They also indicate that the program has offered them the opportunities to survey the various major fields transcending different domains, so as to help them to contemplate on their future career choices. We suggest that such information may provide an essential guideline for developing an innovative undergraduate curriculum.
