  • Exchange of information is essential to the process of innovation such as product development. However, in many cases innovation fails because of a lack of knowledge sharing among parties concerned, even if parties individually have pieces of useful knowledge and skills. Besides physical factors like communication costs, the possibility of opportunistic behavior by parties like stealing ideas can discourage information exchange. This paper introduces a model to analyze incentives of information exchange. The model is a game by two players who alternately opt to offer information to the partner. It is suggested that information exchange can stop before reaching the efficient level. In order to attain the efficient information exchange, expectation of mutual benefit and absence of opportunistic motives in both players are needed. Methods for promoting information exchange include modifying payoff structure to meet the condition of information exchange. The fluidity of partnership may increase a variety of information exchange partners, but discourage building trust between partners which promotes information exchange.

  • Successful techniques of in vitro fertilization(IVF) are valuable for studying the process of fertilization and for developing economical procedures for gene and nuclear transfer in farm animals. To date, bovine IVF system has been developed with oocytes in vitro or vitro, but the resulting zygotes exhibit limited embryonic development after in vitro culture. Even though in vitro matured oocytes achieved high fertilization and cleavage rates, these embryos appear extremly low rate of pregnancies when transferred to synchronized recipients. Development of early bovine embryos in vitro is generally arrested at the 8-to 16-cell stage. However, recent use of somatic cells such as trophoblastic vesicle, granulosa and oviduct epithelial cell for co-culture with early bovine embryos has proven effective for development of embryos, matured and fertilized in vitro, past the in vitro cell blocks. These factors clearly indicate the value of the co-culture system in promoting development of bovine oocytes matured and fertilized in vitro to morula or blastocyst stage in vitro. In addition, co-culture system may beome a tool for evaluation of viability of ova that have been manipulated by procedures such as splitting, microinjection and nuclear transfer.

  • This Paper examines the effect of IT knowledge and IT communication on the operational performance of small firms. Small firms which could be defined firms with less than 50 people in total lags behind medium and large firms in computerization. In order to fill up the computerization gap resulted from size differences, Korean government has been promoting the 'Networking Small Firms' project since 2001. Survey data with 698 small firms in Korea, we could find that If knowledge and IT communication significantly contributed to the operational performance of small firms. Internal process performance is affected by individual IT knowledge, traditional communication, and e-mail communication. Customer performance is affected by above three factors, organizational IT knowledge and internet/EDI communication. Interestingly, financial performance is not affected by traditional communication but only IT knowledge and IT communication.

  • Probiotics are actively being studied for their efficacious anticancer, anticholesterol, and antidiabetic properties. As novel probiotic strains are being developed continuously, new strain-specific safety issues may be reported. Therefore, a procedure for the safety evaluation of probiotic strains is needed. In this study, we investigated the current status of domestic and foreign guidelines for the evaluation of safety of probiotics and suggested a general probiotic safety evaluation process. In other countries, the guidelines for probiotic evaluation are provided and managed separately. However, in Korea, general guidelines are provided regarding the use of functional ingredients, and specific guidelines for the use of probiotics are lacking. A review step based on the characteristics of the probiotics has been introduced in the procedure for safety evaluation of probiotics. Additionally, it has been suggested that the safety evaluation process should consider the results of the functional and genomic analysis for strain identification. Moreover, the factors to be evaluated are presented separately for the notified and non-notified strains. The suggested evaluation procedure may ensure the safety of probiotics, thereby promoting enhanced utilization of probiotics as functional products.

  • The purpose of this study was to classify latent profiles based on satisfaction of student by the campus-life&educational-experiences and to identify factors affecting satisfaction according to each type. For this study, data from the survey of the A univ(1,952 data) were used. To analyze this, a latent profiles analysis was applied to identify subgroups, in which the students by the campus-life&educational-experiences satisfaction, and a multinomial logistic regression model was applied to verify factors affecting group classification. As a result of the analysis, first four groups were classified in the order of 'average·class·highest·relationship satisfaction type'. Second the factors affecting the classification into the remaining three types with 'the average satisfaction type' as a reference group were found to be significant influencing factors(gender, grade, admission process, GPA grade). Based on these results, this study suggested implications for planning and promoting student-tailored education and student support policies at the university level.

  • Objective: Skeletal muscle is a crucial tissue from the perspectives of mitochondrial dysfunction and insulin resistance, it is formed by myogenesis which is dynamic multistep process to be myotubes. The authors could found that root of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidzumi (Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba, ARA) enhanced glucose and lipid metabolism in C2C12 myotubes via mitochondrial regulation. However its action in myogenesis process is not known. The aim of this work was the study of ARA on proliferation, differentiation and hypertrophy in C2C12 cells. Methods: To study proliferation phase, cells were incubated in growth medium with or without ARA (0.2 or 1.0 mg/ml) for 24 hours. To examine differentiation, at 70% confluence, cells were transferred in differentiation medium both with/without ARA (0.2 or 1.0 mg/ml) for 96 hours. And after 72 hours of differentiation, cells were treated with or without ARA (0.2 or 1.0 mg/ml) for 24 hours, the genesis of hypertrophy in myotubes were analyzed. Results: In proliferation phase, ARA could make difference in morphologic examination. In differentiation phase, it also made morphologic difference furthermore ARA (1.0 mg/ml) increased mRNA expressions of Myogenic regulatory factors and muscle-specific proteins synthesis. In late differentiation, ARA induced hypertrophic morphological changes in neo-formed myotubes. Conclusions: ARA might control cell cycle promoting myogenesis and hypertrophy in C2C12 cells.
