  • For improving the flow capacity of pipeline system the hydraulic inspection method was developed conducting on-site with survey of pipeline facility such as diversion work, air vent, etc. and pipe network analysis. The pipe network analysis method determine pipe diameter with trial and error. The validity of the hydraulic inspection method proved adapting on S-district pipeline system.

  • In recent deregulation and competitive power market environment, electric utilities plan and operate their systems for economic benefit with secure system condition. Therefore, implementation of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices can be planned for the efficient utilization of the present system facility. This paper presents a technique to solve the problem about optimal allocation of FACTS devices far the purpose of enhanced system operation.

  • It is the aim of the placement studies of telephone exchanges to provide facility plans which give the most economic investiment time and size to satisfy the future telephone demand of the area. Main subjects of the stuies are usually the optimal number, locations, service areas, final capacity of the telephone exchanges. This paper explains about the basic methodologies and algorithms expressed in PLAX, a software developed by KETRI to tackle the placement problem in urban areas.

  • Modernization of a port requires a considerable port facility expansion through grading up the cargo handling efficiency, increasing water depth of channels and basins to accomodate Large ships, etc. In many ports in the world, the needs of bigger ship calls in excess of conventional capacity of channels and basins demand for capital dredging as well as maintenance dredging resulting from siltation, and those activities are incurring heavy annual expenditure of the ports.   • The purpose of this paper was developing a development density control model for urban growth management, using system dynamics modeling. The density control model was developed to see how urban growth, transition, and decay occur depending on the interaction among population, houses, industry structure, land and urban infrastructure such as road, water supply, and sewage treatment facilities. Suggesting adequate level of development density control using the model was another purpose of this paper. The model was applied to An'yang city to estimate the maximum number of population, industry structures, houses, and cars that can be adequately sustained with the current An'yang city's infrastructur capacity. The computer simulation results shows that the city is overpopulated by some 90,000 people. To reduce the population to the adequate level that the current urban infrastructure can sustain, the current city regulation on floor area ratio are needed to be strengthened at least 20 to 35%.

  • In this study a packed tower was selected for the treatment apparatus of $NH_3$ gas produced in industry. Formerly latticework packing has been used in preventive facility of treatment of $NH_3$ gas. However recently metallic Ralu-Pack 250YC. structured packing is usually being used in petrochemical production plant. This study is for the application the packing to the $NH_3$ gas treatment in wet scrubbing process. In Air/water system hydraulic pressure drop dependent of specific liquid load and gas capacity factor was continuous and parallel from graph. The tower height can be determuined by the number of transfer unit and the height of transfer unit influenced on liquid distribution.

  • Recently, while interests on supply of electric vehicles have increased there still are insufficient charging facilities. As a solution to this matter, using electric power grids that constantly retain about 30~50[%] residual power is being considered. Therefore proposed in this paper railway, is a method to establish a charging infrastructure to utilize railway DC power grids. In addition we designed a high-speed DC charging system, and simulated improvements of the charging structure's charging efficiency according to remaining capacity of batteries.

Capacity Planning in a Closed Queueing Network

  • In this paper, criteria and algorithms for the optimal service rate in a closed queueing network have been established. The objective is to minimize total cost. It is shown that system throughput is increasing concave over the service rate of a node and cycle time is increasing convex over the set of service times with a single calss of cubsomers. This enables developing an algorithm using a steepest descent method when the cost function for service rate is convex. The efficiency of the algorithm rests on the fact that the steepest descent direction is readily obtained at each iteration from the MVA algorithm. Several numerical examples are presented. The major application of this research is optimization of facility capacity in a manufacturing system.

  • A pilot scale circulating fluidized bed for refuse derived fuel is developed and constructed in order to demonstrate efficient and safe utilization of waste fuel. The capacity of the facility is 8 steam tons per hour with the steam quality of $450^{\circ}C$ and 38atm. The quantity and the quality of the produced steam is sufficient to produce 1MWe power capacity. The test operation proved the high combustion efficiency of 99% and up. The emissions of NOx, SOx in flue gas are below 100, 60ppm respectively with out any emission control. HCl emissions were above 400ppm at the combustor exit but reduced below 10ppm after scrubber.

  • The amount of electrical energy has been increased with the rapid development of the industrial society. Accordingly, operating voltage of the power equipment and facility capacity are continuously increasing. Development trends of recent high-voltage electrical equipment are ultra high-voltage, large-capacity and compact. Early diagnosis of a failure of the power plant has been emerging as an important task as to supply high quality power to users. In this study, we have tried to develope an algorithm for distinguishing an arc fault signal generated in the power plant by using UV sensor.
