Efficient and Facile Synthesis of α-Chloroenones Bearing β-Carbonates or β-Carbamates

  • Efficient synthesis of ${\alpha}$-chloroenones bearing ${\beta}$-carbonates or ${\beta}$-carbamates was achieved by rhodium(II)-catalyzed reaction of cyclic diazodicarbonyl compounds with a variety of chloroformates or carbamyl chlorides in good yields. These reactions provided a useful and rapid route to ${\beta}$-substituted ${\alpha}$-haloenones.

  • The 2,3-trimethylene-4(3H)-quinazolinone and 2,3-tetramethylene-4(3H)-quinazolinone are not the only alkaloids isolated from plants. but are the part of a family of intriguing alkaloids including the bronchodilator vasicinone, anti-endotoxic isaindigotone, cytotoxic luotonins, antibiotic tryptanthrin, and antiinflammatory rutacearpine as well as related alkaloids.   • This paper describes a concise and efficient synthetic route for the biologically interesting pyranoxanthones, dihydropyranoxanthones, and their derivatives. The key strategies involve pyranyl ring formation, methylation, catalytic hydrogenation, and catalytic dihydroxylation starting from 1,3-dihydroxyxanthen-9-one.
