This paper proposes a scalable face recognition method for unconstrained face databases, and shows a simple experimental result. Existing face recognition research usually has focused on improving the recognition rate in a constrained environment where illumination, face alignment, facial expression, and background is controlled. Therefore, it cannot be applied in unconstrained face databases. The proposed system is face feature extraction algorithm for unconstrained face recognition. First of all, we extract the area that represent the important features(landmarks) in the face, like the eyes, nose, and mouth. Each landmark is represented by a high-dimensional LBP(Local Binary Pattern) histogram feature vector. The multi-scale LBP histogram vector corresponding to a single landmark, becomes a low-dimensional face feature vector through the feature reduction process, PCA(Principal Component Analysis) and LDA(Linear Discriminant Analysis). We use the Rank acquisition method and Precision at k(p@k) performance verification method for verifying the face recognition performance of the low-dimensional face feature by the proposed algorithm. To generate the experimental results of face recognition we used the FERET, LFW and PubFig83 database. The face recognition system using the proposed algorithm showed a better classification performance over the existing methods.
Face verification has been widely studied during the past two decades. One of the challenges is the rising concern about the security and privacy of the template database. In this paper, we propose a secure face verification system which generates a unique secure cryptographic key from a face template. The face images are processed to produce face templates or codes to be utilized for the encryption and decryption tasks. The result identity data is encrypted using Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). Distance metric naming hamming distance and Euclidean distance are used for template matching identification process, where template matching is a process used in pattern recognition. The proposed system is tested on the ORL, YALEs, and PKNU face databases, which contain 360, 135, and 54 training images respectively. We employ Principle Component Analysis (PCA) to determine the most discriminating features among face images. The experimental results showed that the proposed distance measure was one the promising best measures with respect to different characteristics of the biometric systems. Using the proposed method we needed to extract fewer images in order to achieve 100% cumulative recognition than using any other tested distance measure.

In this paper, we design and implement of gate management system by face recognition using smart phone. We investigate various algorithms for face recognition on smart phones. First step in any face recognition system is face detection. We investigated algorithms like color segmentation, template matching etc. for face detection, and Eigen & Fisher face for face recognition. The algorithms have been first profiled in MATLAB and then implemented on the Android phone. While implementing the algorithms, we made a tradeoff between accuracy and computational complexity of the algorithm mainly because we are implementing the face recognition system on a smart phone with limited hardware capabilities.

Face Recognition has been an active research area because it is not difficult to acquire face image data and it is applicable in wide range area in real world. Due to the high dimensionality of a face image space, however, it is not easy to process the face images. In this paper, we propose a method to reduce the dimension of the facial data and extract the features from them. It will be solved using the method which extracts the features from holistic face images. The proposed algorithm consists of two parts. The first is the using of principal component analysis (PCA) to transform three dimensional color facial images to one dimensional gray facial images. The second is integrated linear discriminant analusis (PCA+LDA) to prevent the loss of informations in case of performing separated steps. Integrated LDA is integrated algorithm of PCA for reduction of dimension and LDA for discrimination of facial vectors. First, in case of transformation from color image to gray image, PCA(Principal Component Analysis) is performed to enhance the image contrast to raise the recognition rate. Second, integrated LDA(Linear Discriminant Analysis) combines the two steps, namely PCA for dimensionality reduction and LDA for discrimination. It makes possible to describe concise algorithm expression and to prevent the information loss in separate steps. To validate the proposed method, the algorithm is implemented and tested on well controlled face databases.
This paper is concerned with face recognition for human-robot interaction (HRI) in robot environments. For this purpose, we use Tensor Subspace Analysis (TSA) to recognize the user's face through robot camera when robot performs various services in home environments. Thus, the spatial correlation between the pixels in an image can be naturally characterized by TSA. Here we utilizes face database collected in u-robot test bed environments in ETRI. The presented method can be used as a core technique in conjunction with HRI that can naturally interact between human and robots in home robot applications. The experimental results on face database revealed that the presented method showed a good performance in comparison with the well-known methods such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) in distant-varying environments.
Face recognition is a science of automatically identifying individuals based their unique facial features. In order to avoid overfitting and reduce the computational reduce the computational burden, a new face recognition algorithm using PCA-fisher linear discriminant (PCA-FLD) and fuzzy radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) is proposed in this paper. First, face features are extracted by the principal component analysis (PCA) method. Then, the extracted features are further processed by the Fisher's linear discriminant technique to acquire lower-dimensional discriminant patterns, the processed features will be considered as the input of the fuzzy RBFNN. As a widely applied algorithm in fuzzy RBF neural network, BP learning algorithm has the low rate of convergence, therefore, an improved learning algorithm based on Levenberg-Marquart (L-M) for fuzzy RBF neural network is introduced in this paper, which combined the Gradient Descent algorithm with the Gauss-Newton algorithm. Experimental results on the ORL face database demonstrate that the proposed algorithm has satisfactory performance and high recognition rate.
Face tracking and recognition are difficult problems because the face is a non-rigid object. The main reasons for the failure to track and recognize the faces are the changes of a face pose and environmental illumination. To solve these problems, we propose a nonlinear manifold framework for the face pose and the face illumination normalization processing. Specifically, to track and recognize a face on the video that has various pose variations, we approximate a face pose density to single Gaussian density by PCA(Principle Component Analysis) using images sampled from training video sequences and then construct the GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model) for each person. To solve the illumination problem for the face tracking and recognition, we decompose the face images into the reflectance and the illuminance using the SSR(Single Scale Retinex) model. To obtain the normalized reflectance, the reflectance is rescaled by histogram equalization on the defined range. We newly approximate the illuminance by the trained manifold since the illuminance has almost variations by illumination. By combining these two features into our manifold framework, we derived the efficient face tracking and recognition results on indoor and outdoor video. To improve the video based tracking results, we update the weights of each face pose density at each frame by the tracking result at the previous frame using EM algorithm. Our experimental results show that our method is more efficient than other methods.

In typical face recognition systems, the frontal view of face is preferred to reduce the complexity of the recognition. Thus individuals may be required to stare into the camera, or the camera should be located so that the frontal images are acquired easily. However these constraints severely restrict the adoption of face recognition to wide applications. To alleviate this problem, in this paper, we address the problem of tracking and recognizing faces in video captured with no environmental control. The face tracker extracts a sequence of the angle/size normalized face images using IVT (Incremental Visual Tracking) algorithm that is known to be robust to changes in appearance. Since no constraints have been imposed between the face direction and the video camera, there will be various poses in face images. Thus the pose is identified using a PCA (Principal Component Analysis)-based pose classifier, and only the pose-matched face images are used to identify person against the pre-built face DB with 5-poses. For face recognition, PCA, (2D)PCA, and $(2D)^2PCA$ algorithms have been tested to compute the recognition rate and the execution time.
This paper describes a real-time face tracking system using effective detector and Kalman filter. In the proposed system, an image is separated into a background and an object using a real-time updated face color for effective face detection. The face features are extracted using the five types of simple Haar-like features. The extracted features are reinterpreted using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and interpreted principal components are used for Support Vector Machine (SVM) that classifies the faces and non-faces. The moving face is traced with Kalman filter, which uses the static information of the detected faces and the dynamic information of changes between previous and current frames. The proposed system sets up an initial skin color and updates a region of a skin color through a moving skin color in a real time. It is possible to remove a background which has a similar color with a skin through updating a skin color in a real time. Also, as reducing a potential-face region using a skin color, the performance is increased up to 50% when comparing to the case of extracting features from a whole region.
Biometrics is essential for person identification because of its uniqueness from each individuals. Face recognition technology has advantage over other biometrics because of its convenience and non-intrusive characteristics. In this paper, we will present a overview of face recognition technology including face detection, feature extraction, and face recognition system. For face detection, we will describe template based method and face component based approach. PCA and LDA approach will be discussed for feature extraction, and nearest neighbor classifiers -will be covered for matching. Large database and the standardized performance evaluation methodology is essential in order to support state-of-the-art face recognition system. Also, 3D based face recognition technology is the key solution for the pose, lighting and expression variations in many applications.
