There are many feature extraction methods for face recognition. We need a new method to overcome the small sample problem that the number of feature variables is larger than the sample size for face image data. The paper considers partial least squares(PLS) as a new dimension reduction technique for feature vector. Principal Component Analysis(PCA), a conventional dimension reduction method, selects the components with maximum variability, irrespective of the class information. So, PCA does not necessarily extract features that are important for the discrimination of classes. PLS, on the other hand, constructs the components so that the correlation between the class variable and themselves is maximized. Therefore PLS components are more predictive than PCA components in classification. The experimental results on Manchester and ORL databases shows that PLS is to be preferred over PCA when classification is the goal and dimension reduction is needed.

This paper proposes a face recognition method based on modified Otsu's binarization and Hu moment. Proposed method is robust to brightness, contrast, scale, rotation, and translation changes. As the proposed modified Otsu's binarization computes other thresholds from conventional Otsu's binarization, namely we create two binary images, we can extract higher dimensional feature vector. Here the feature vector has properties of robustness to brightness and contrast changes because the proposed method is based on Otsu's binarization. And our face recognition system is robust to scale, rotation, and translation changes because of using Hu moment. In the perspective of brightness, contrast, scale, rotation, and translation changes, experimental results with Olivetti Research Laboratory (ORL) database and the AR database showed that average recognition rates of conventional well-known principal component analysis (PCA) are 93.2% and 81.4%, respectively. Meanwhile, the proposed method for the same databases has superior performance of the average recognition rates of 93.2% and 81.4%, respectively.
As the existing face recognition CCTV and home IOT have each individual hardware component, they have a disadvantage that the measured results of their sensors and the CCTV can not be viewed on one screen at a time. In order to overcome the above disadvantages of existing CCTV and home IOT, this paper proposes an integrated platform which constitutes the CCTV and home IOT as one hardware component using Raspberry Pi and shows each result on one screen through Smartphone application. The proposed integrated platform CCTV and home IOT system is a system which can run the application as a Smartphone and check the sensor value measured by Raspberry Pi and the picture taken through the Pi camera. The implemented system measures temperature, humidity, gas, and dust, and implements face recognition technology on a screen shot through a Pi camera, allowing it to be seen at a glance with a Smartphone.

With the increasing popularity of mobile devices, it has become necessary to protect private information and content in these devices. Face recognition has been favored over conventional passwords or security keys, because it can be easily implemented using a built-in camera, while providing user convenience. However, because mobile devices can be used both indoors and outdoors, there can be many illumination changes, which can reduce the accuracy of face recognition. Therefore, we propose a new face recognition method on a mobile device robust to illumination variations. This research makes the following four original contributions. First, we compared the performance of face recognition with illumination variations on mobile devices for several illumination normalization procedures suitable for mobile devices with low processing power. These include the Retinex filter, histogram equalization and histogram stretching. Second, we compared the performance for global and local methods of face recognition such as PCA (Principal Component Analysis), LNMF (Local Non-negative Matrix Factorization) and LBP (Local Binary Pattern) using an integer-based kernel suitable for mobile devices having low processing power. Third, the characteristics of each method according to the illumination va iations are analyzed. Fourth, we use two matching scores for several methods of illumination normalization, Retinex and histogram stretching, which show the best and $2^{nd}$ best performances, respectively. These are used as the inputs of an SVM (Support Vector Machine) classifier, which can increase the accuracy of face recognition. Experimental results with two databases (data collected by a mobile device and the AR database) showed that the accuracy of face recognition achieved by the proposed method was superior to that of other methods.
Purpose: Social influence has a decisive role in shaping a person's cognition and behavior. Chinese face consciousness, including moral component, is an important part of Chinese traditional culture, which influences people to implement moral behavior. With both eye-tracking technology and traditional questionnaire, this research aims to explore people's moral psychology and the psychological processing mechanisms of Chinese face consciousness, as well as the impact of Chinese face consciousness on the preference for the ecological product. Method and Data: 75 college and MBA students' eye movement data were collected when they read different kinds of moral materials, as well as data from the subsequent questionnaires. To test the hypothesis, ANOVA analysis and Heat Map analysis were performed. Besides, the PROCESS of bootstrap was used to test mediation effect. Findings: The results reveal that: 1. Compared to the moral-situation reading, when subjects read immoral situations, they need more processing time due to the moral dissonance and cognitive load. 2. Compared to the control condition, when threatened moral self is primed, subjects prefer to choose ecological product. 3. Protective face orientation is the mediator between threatened moral self and preference to ecological product. Key Contributions: First, this study broadens the use of eye-tracking technology in marketing and demonstrates a better understanding of the relationship between morality and consumer behavior in a more scientific way. Second, this study not only distinguishes the meanings between "protective face orientation" and "acquisitive face orientation", but also innovatively validates that when moral self is threatened, consumers tend to choose ecological product as moral compensation in order to protect their face. It can shed light on the promotion of ecological product in practical applications.
It is notorious that PIN(Personal Identification Number) is used widely for user verification and authentication in networked environment. But, when the user Identification and password are exposed by hacking, we can be damaged monetary damage as well as invasion of privacy. In this paper, we adopt face recognition-based authentication which have nothing to worry what the ID and password will be exposed. Also, we suggest the remote authentication and verification system by considering not only 2-Tier system but also 3-Tier system getting be distributed. In this research, we analyze the face feature data using the SVM(Support Vector Machine) and PCA(Principle Component Analysis), and implement artificial intelligence face recognition module in distributed environment which increase the authentication speed and heightens accuracy by utilizing artificial intelligence techniques.
This paper presents an effective pattern classification model by designing an artificial neural network based pattern classifiers for face recognition. First, a RGB image inputted from a frame grabber is converted into a HSV image which is similar to the human beings' vision system. Then, the coarse facial region is extracted using the hue(H) and saturation(S) components except intensity(V) component which is sensitive to the environmental illumination. Next, the fine facial region extraction process is performed by matching with the edge and gray based templates. To make a light-invariant and qualified facial image, histogram equalization and intensity compensation processing using illumination plane are performed. The finally extracted and enhanced facial images are used for training the pattern classification models. The proposed H-ART2 model which has the hierarchical ART2 layers and F-LVQ model which is optimized by fuzzy membership make it possible to classify facial patterns by optimizing relations of clusters and searching clustered reference patterns effectively. Experimental results show that the proposed face recognition system is as good as the SVM model which is famous for face recognition field in recognition rate and even better in classification speed. Moreover high recognition rate could be acquired by combining the proposed neural classification models.

This paper presents biometrical driver verification system in car experiment through analysis of speech, and face information. We have used Mel-scale Frequency Cesptral Coefficients (MFCCs) for speaker verification using speech information. For face verification, face region is detected by AdaBoost algorithm and dimension-reduced feature vector is extracted by using principal component analysis only from face region. In this paper, we apply the extracted speech- and face feature vectors to an SVM kernel with Gaussian Mixture Models(GMM) supervector. The experimental results of the proposed approach show a clear improvement compared to a simple GMM or SVM approach.

In this study, we compare the recognition performance using PCA and RBFNNs for introducing robust face recognition system to pose variations based on pose estimation. proposed face recognition system uses Honda/UCSD database for comparing recognition performance. Honda/UCSD database consists of 20 people, with 5 poses per person for a total of 500 face images. Extracted image consists of 5 poses using Multiple-Space PCA and each pose is performed by using (2D)2PCA for performing pose classification. Linear polynomial function is used as connection weight of RBFNNs Pattern Classifier and parameter coefficient is set by using Particle Swarm Optimization for model optimization. Proposed (2D)2PCA-based face pose classification performs recognition performance with PCA, (2D)2PCA and RBFNNs.

This paper presents an approach to visual information based temporal indexing of video sequences. The objective of this work is the integration of an automatic face detection and a matching system for video indexing. The face detection is done using color information. The matching stage is based on the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) followed by the Minimax Probability Machine (MPM). Using PCA one feature vector is calculated for each face which is detected at the previous stage from the video sequence and MPM is applied to these feature vectors for matching with the training faces which are manually indexed after extracting from video sequences. The integration of the two stages gives good results. The rate of 86.3% correctly classified frames shows the efficiency of our system.
