  • Recently, natural fiber reinforced composite is attracting attention and considered as an environmentally friendly material. Usually cellulosic fibers are used to reinforce the composites, but some protein fibers such as silk and wool serve the same purpose. In this paper, we proposed a method of producing artistic composite from artistic fabric by using silk fiber reinforced biodegradable plastic, which is designated as 'silk composite', for reinforcement. In order to expand applications of the silk composite, we performed the compression molding of decorative laminates with woody material, which was selected as a core material, and examined the properties of molded decorative laminates with various content of the silk composite. Since plywood and medium-density fiberboard (MDF) are widely used for decorative laminates, we selected them as core materials. As a result, flexible decorative laminates with high flexural strength were obtained by compounding the silk composite with wood materials.

  • The colorante from black tea infusion were applied to cotton fabric. Dyeing properties were investigated in terms of dye uptakes at various dyeing conditions and the effect of mordants on color change and colorfastness. Cotton showed low affinity to black tea colorants. Effects of mordants on dye uptake was not significant except Sn. Irrespective of mordant type, color of cotton dyed with black tea colorants was brownish and colorfastness was generally good. In order to improve dye uptake, cotton was cationized by treating with Cationon UK(tertiary ammonium salt) and chitosan. Dye uptake of cotton was remarkably increased by cationizing. Cationon UK was more effective than chitosan.

  • The tensile properties of polyester warp knitted fabrics of satin and reverse satin structure with various lengths of underlap were studied. In the range of low tension, the satin warp knitted fabric showed larger tensile energy and elongation in the direction of $0^\circ$ and larger tensile linearity, tensile resilience and initial modulus in $90^\circ$. Meanwhile, reverse satin one showed larger initial moduli in 0$^{\circ}$ and larger the others in $90^\circ$. In the range of high tension, the tendencies of both fabrics in $0^\circ$ direction were almost the same as those in all direction. As the under laps were shorter for both fabrics, tensile linearity, tensile energy and elongation increased, but tensile resilience decreased in all directions. However initial moduli were changed little.

  • 'Burn-Out' is a kind of printing process that can create many textural effects, also high added value of the fabrics. In the previous studies, it is examined how to burn out the cellulose part of the velvet and the polyester/cellulosic fiber mixed fabric without damage of the other part and the effects of process conditions. In this study, dyeing properties of the colored burn-out printing were investigated with various conditions onto the polyester/cellulosic fiber mixed fabrics with red disperse dye. As a results, the apparent color depth (K/S) is increased with increasing of concentration of dye. The optimum treatment conditions without any shrinkage or occurrence of yellowness on the polyester ground fabrics are fixation temperature of $140^{\circ}C$ and time of 3 minutes.

  • Skin patch test and antibacterial properties of the reaction products between poly(hexamethyl biguanide) hydrochloride and trimethylol melamine on textile fabrics were examined. Antibacterial activities of anti-microbial agent treated samples are very good. The reduction ratios against four kinds of colonies are 99.9 % after repeated laundering ten times. Skin patch test results for anti-microbial agent treated samples are almost-negative by Hi-scope judgement and macroscopical judgement.

  • This study surveys the warp and weft tension differences between projectile and air-jet looms and analyses the mechanical properties of worsted fabrics for garment with relation of these loom characteristics using KES-FB system. The paper is divided by two parts. In the 1st paper, the worsted fabric is woven as 5 harness satin weave using 1/40 Nm sirofil worsted warp yarn and 1/30 Nm worsted weft yarn by projectile(Sulzer) and air-jet looms(Picanol PAT and OMNI), respectively. The weavability is also analysed by measuring warp tension variation according to the warp position and weft tension of 3 kinds of looms. The relationship between shed amount and the warp tension is surveyed, and the relationship between end breaks and warp and weft tensions is also discussed.

  • Dyeing properties of silk fabric with black tea colorants were investigated in terms of dye uptakes at various dyeing conditions and the effect of mordants on color change and colorfastness. Black tea colorants showed high affinity to silk and produced brown color. Two types of adsorption isotherm were obtained; Langmuir and Freundlich equilibrium at 360 nm and 460 nm, respectively. Thus, it is considered that both of ionic and hydrogen bondings are involved in silk dyeing with black tea colorants. Dye uptake increased continuously as concentration of colorants increased. Brown color was not changed with mordant type except that Fe mordant produced dark brown color. Mordanting did not influence colorfastness of dyed silk significantly. Therefore, mordanting was not necessary in dyeing silk with black tea colorants.

  • Oil-absorbable nonwovens were produced by melt-blown processing of polypropylene chips. The melt-blown processing conditions, such as air pressure, and gear pump speed, DCD. In this study, these three factors were chosen to produce samples. Experimental array and variance analysis of the design of experiment were used to increase the field repeatability and universality. The effect of the factors on oil absorption properties of melt-blown nonwoven fabric such as oil absorbency were evaluated. As a result, the fiber diameter decreased as gearpump speed decreased or air pressure increased. The oil absorbency increased as air pressure increased or gearpump speed decreased and with the DCD increasing the oil absorbency significantly increased.

  • When the polyester/cellulosic fiber mixed fabrics were treated with sodium hydrogensulfate for burn-out printing, it is examined how the effects of process conditions as concentration of acid, fixation temperature and fixation time act onto the properties of the polyester ground fabrics. The print paste, indalca solution, was mixed with sodium hydrogensulfate and glycerine, and then screen-printed on the fabrics. The properties of the polyester ground fabrics after removing away the cellulosic fibers were investigated. The yellowness index and the breaking load of polyester ground fabrics affected by the process conditions, especially dry heat fixation temperature.
