  • Purpose : We report the results of the various parameters of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and CSF flow study of the cervical spinal cord using magnetic resonance (MR) imaging techniques. Materials and Methods: Intramedullary FA and MD were measured in the gray matter and posterior cord of the white matter and both lateral cords of the white matter at the C2-3, C4-5, C5-6 spinal levels. For the CSF flow study, velocity encoding was obtained at the C2-3, C4-5, C5-6 spinal levels. Results: There was a significant difference of the FA and MD between the white matter and gray matter (p < 0.05). The FA of the gray matter was significantly different according to the cervical spinal cord levels (p < 0.05). Otherwise, the FA and MD parameters were not significantly different (p > 0.05). The mean peak systolic velocity and mean peak diastolic velocity were $5.18{\pm}2.00cm/sec$ and $-7.32{\pm}3.18cm/sec$, respectively from C2 to C6 spinal cords. There was no significant difference in these velocities among the cervical spinal cord (p > 0.05). Conclusion: This basic information about DTI and CSF dynamics of the cervical spinal cord may be useful for assessing cervical spinal cord abnormalities using MR imaging.

  • The alarming rate of depletion of natural stone based coarse aggregates is a cause of great concern. The coarse aggregates occupy nearly 60-70% by volume of concrete being produced. Research efforts are on to look for alternatives to stone based coarse aggregates from sustainability point of view. Response surface methodology (RSM) is adopted to study and address the effect of ferrochrome slag (FCS) replacement to coarse aggregate replacement in the ordinary Portland cement (OPC) based concretes. RSM involves three different factors (ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) as binder, flyash (FA) as binder, and FCS as coarse aggregate), with three different levels (GGBS (0, 15, and 30%), FA (0, 15, and 30%) and FCS (0, 50, and 100%)). Experiments were carried out to measure the responses like, workability, density, and compressive strength of FCS based concretes. In order to optimize FCS replacement in the OPC based concretes, three different traditional optimization techniques were used (grey relational analysis (GRA), technique for order of preference by similarity (TOPSIS), and desirability function approach (DFA)). Traditional optimization techniques were accompanied with principal component analysis (PCA) to calculate the weightage of responses measured to arrive at the final ranking of replacement levels of GGBS, FA, and FCS in OPC based concretes. Hybrid combination of PCA-TOPSIS technique is found to be significant when compared to other techniques used. 30% GGBS and 50% FCS replacement in OPC based concrete was arrived at, to be optimal.

  • Silica fume is generally adopted as admixture for Ultra High Strength Concrete (UHSC) owing to its remarkable contribution to the strength and durability but increases significantly the fabrication cost of UHSC. Accordingly, this study investigates the replacement of silica fume by blast furnace slag (BS) and fly ash (FA) in order to lower the fabrication cost of 80MPa-UHSC. To that goal, experiment is conducted on the mix proportions of mortar in terms of its binder combination, water-to-binder ratio (W/B) and unit binder content. Based on the experimental data, a mix design of concrete is derived and its properties are verified. The results reveal that a W/B of 21% and unit binder content of $720kg/m^3$ are appropriate to achieve 80MPa-UHSC using a binder composed of 60% of OPC, 30% of BS and 10% of FA. The properties of the corresponding UHSC are seen to be satisfactory with a slump flow of 715mm and compressive strength of 97MPa at 28days. The application of the binder combination derived in this study is analyzed to reduce the cost by 50% of binder compared to the mix using silica fume while realizing equivalent performance.

  • This paper proposes a new concept about dual band predistortion linear power amplifier(PD LPA) using diplexer for digital cellular ($f_o$=880 MHz) and IMT-2000($f_o$=2,140 MHz) base stations. The diplexer is composed of low pass filter having defected ground structure(BGS) microstrip line and high pass filter having high-Q lumped capacitors and distributed elements. The proposed predistorter adopts a reflection type intermodulation signal generator with 3 dB hybrid coupler for good reflection characteristic. for a forward link one carrier CDMA IS-95A 1FA and WCDMA 1FA signal, the proposed dual band PD LPA shows the adjacent channel leakage ratio(ACLR) improvement about 10 dB and 9.36 dB for digital cellular and IMT-2000 band, respectively.

  • This paper reports the effects of gain flatness for linearity improvement of feedforward power amplifier fur IMT-2000 band. To investigate the operational characteristics for gain flatness of each amplifier, WCDMA 4FA input signal was used and measured 10 W output power. Especially, linearity improvement for variation of gain flatness of each amplifier was investigated that have an effect on linearity improvement such as delay line, phase, and amplitude imbalances. Variation of gain flatness of main amplifier is 40 MHz and of error amplifier is 40 MHz and 80 MHz bandwidth, respectively. Measured results, gain flatness of main amplifier is less than 1.5 dB and of error amplifier is less than 0.5 dB for more than 20 dB improvement at 5 MHz offset. In addition to that results, the characteristics of feedforward amplifier are drastically varied by gain flatness of error amplifier and it is shown that gain flatness of error amplifier is more important factor for linearity improvement.

  • The effects of feeding pelleted citrus pulp (PCP) as a natural antioxidant source on the performance and milk quality of dairy cows fed highly polyunsaturated fatty acid (FA) diets were evaluated. Four lactating Holstein cows were assigned to a $4{\times}4$ Latinsquare. Treatments, on a dry matter (DM) basis, were i) control diet; ii) 3% soybean oil; iii) 3% soybean oil and 9% PCP and; iv) 3% soybean oil and 18% PCP. When cows fed on citrus pulp, the DM intake tended to decrease. The total tract apparent digestibility of DM and ether extract decreased when cows fed on the control diet compared to other diets. Cows fed PCP had higher polyphenols and flavonoids content and higher total ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) in milk compared to those fed no pelleted citrus pulp. Cows fed 18% PCP showed higher monounsaturated FA and lower saturated FA in milk fat compared with cows fed the other diets. The lowest n-6 FA proportion was in milk fat from cows fed control. The present study suggests that pelleted citrus pulp added to 9% to 18% DM increases total polyphenols and flavonoids concentration, and the FRAP in milk.

  • In this paper, a power amplifier intermodulation distortion has been analyzed to improve linearity and the analysis results are used to minimize the distortion for linear power amplifier design. The proposed design technique is which the intermodulation distortions of the final amplifier are removed by driver intermodulation distortions. This proposed technique is based on AM to AM distortion analysis using power series, and AM to PM distortion analysis results using Bessel function. To verify this technique implement a cellular HPA(High Power Amplifier) 30W. From the results of the implementation and measurement for the linear power amplifier, the spurious characteristic is shown as 50 dBc at 1.98 MHz with 30 W with 20FA. These results show that distortion characteristics are improved as much as 10 dB in spurious characteristic compared with conventional design method.

  • In this paper, an asymmetric high power extended Doherty amplifier for WCDMA base-station applications is presented. The amplifier has an extended peak efficiency over 9 dB of output power and a linear dynamic range characteristic. To realize the peak efficiency extension and linear dynamic range characteristic, a two times larger peaking device compared to the main device, and an unequal power divider are used. From the experimental results of 1FA WCDMA signal, this amplifier has an efficiency of 31 % and an ACLR of -35 dBc is achieved at 9 dB back-off from P1 dB.
