  • With petroleum reserves dwindling, interest has been increasing worldwide in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (FT) as a method of producing synthetic liquid fuels and chemicals from coal, natural gas or biomass. In general, FT synthesis is operated through the gas phase fixed-bed reaction system. Recently, there are lots of study in supercritical fluid due to unique characteristics such as the quick diffusion of reactant gas, effective removal of reaction heat, and the in-situ extraction of high molecular weight hydrocarbon, such as wax. In this study, our major aim is to obtain a deeper insight into the effect of the type of support on the reaction performance over a supported cobalt catalyst in a fixed bed reactor.

Study on the Synthesis of N,N'-Dicyclohexylcarbodiimide from N,N'-Dicyclohexylurea (디사이클로헥실우레아로부터 디사이클로헥실카르보디이미드의 합성에 관한 연구)

  • N,N'-Dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC) known as powerful dehydrating reagent in amide or ester synthesis is converted into N,N'-dicyclohexylurea (DCU) during the reaction. In the paper, DCU was recovered from the reaction for the synthesis of the hydrophilic derivative of ${\beta}$-sitosterol, and the purification of the recovered DCU and the dehydration of DCU into DCC were investigated. In the presence of tosyl chloride, (TsCl) and triethylamine (TEA), DCU was converted into DCC, and the optimum molar ratio of [DCU] : [TsCl] : [TEA] was found to be 1.0 : 1.5 : 3.0. Pure DCC was obtained with a 46% yield by the sublimation after the purification process, and characterized by GC/MS, FT-IR and $^{13}C-NMR$.

Facile Synthesis of Gold Nanoparticles Using Tyrosine-Rich Peptide and Its Applications to Catalytic Reduction of 4-Nitrophenol (타이로신이 풍부한 펩타이드를 사용한 금 나노입자의 손쉬운 합성과 4-니트로페놀의 촉매 환원 응용)

  • In this study, we studied a facile method for the synthesis of stable and nearly spherical gold nanoparticles using a tyrosine-rich peptide, Tyr-Tyr-Gly-Tyr-Tyr (YYGYY), as both the reducing and capping agent. The peptide coated spherical and polycrystalline gold nanoparticles with diameters from 3 to 15 nm were successfully synthesized by varying the concentration of the peptide and metal precursor under UV irradiation. The nanoparticles were then characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-Vis spectroscopy, scanning transmission electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (STEM-EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Furthermore, the catalytic activity of gold nanoparticles was confirmed by the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol, in which the catalytic reaction rate constant was 7.3 × 10-3 s-1.

  • In this study, Br-PPO was developed by applying additive organic particles through a suspension polymerization synthesis method. The anion exchange membrane fuel cell system performance was evaluated using it to an anion exchange membrane. To improve the performance, organic ion exchange particles were prepared and added to the anion exchange membrane. Chemical structure analysis and synthesis were determined through FT-IR and NMR, and tensile strength and thermal stability were measured through TGA and UTM to determine whether it could be driven. Before the anion exchange membrane fuel cell test, the performance was evaluated by measuring the ion conductivity and ion exchange capacity. Finally, the Br-PPO-TMA-SDV (0.7%) anion exchange membrane with excellent ion conductivity and ion exchange capacity was introduced into the fuel cell system. Its performance was compared with FAA-3-50, a commercial membrane, to determine whether it could be introduced into a fuel cell system.

  • Pyrylium fluoroborates undergo a wide range of synthetically useful reactions because of the positive charge. And the electron accepting nature has resulted in their widespread use as sensitizers for photo-induced electron transfer (PET) reactions. In this experiment, 2,6-disubstituted pyrylium fluoroborates are synthesized from the reaction between $3^{\prime}$-chloroacetophenone and excess orthoformate in an acidic medium (acetic anhydride/acid). Synthesized products are confirmed by $^1H-NMR$, FT-IR and TOF Mass spectroscopies. Also, photo-properties are analyzed with an UV-Vis spectrophotometer.

  • In this study, we synthesized p-hexyloxybenzaldehyde(HBA) by using p-hydroxybenzaldehyde and n-hexylchloride. p-dodecylaniline(DDA) prepared by nitration and reduction of dodecylbenzene. The schiff base, p-dodecylbenzylidene-$p^\prime$-hexyloxyaniline (DBHA) was synthesized by reaction of HBA and DDA. The color of synthetic compound was pale-brown and the yield was 62%.   • In this research, (3-alkyl benzimidazalium)-TCNQ complexes were synthesized to obtain the necessary components for Langmuir-Blodgett Technique. (3- Alkyl benzimidazolium)-TCNQ complexes were prepared by the reaction of LiTCNQ with 3-alkyl benzimidazolium bromides and the products were confirmed by elemental analysis. FT-IR, UV-Visible spectroscopies. FT-IR spectra of (3-alkyl benzimidazolium) TCNQ(1:2) complexes were characterized by a broad band with a maximum at about $2900cm^{-1}$ appears and were ascribed to electronic rather than vibrational absorption.

  • Ultra thin films of HDSM-CuPc(Tetra-3-hexadecylsulphamoylcopperphthalocya-nine) were formed on various substrates by Langmuir-Blodgett method, where HDSM-CuPc was synthesized by attaching long-chain alkylamine(hexa-decylamine) to CuPc. The reaction product was identified with FT- IR, UV-visible absorption spectroscopies, elemental analysis and thin layer chromatography. The formation of ultrathin films of HDSM-CuPc was confirmed by FT-IR and UV-visible spectroscpies.

  • Octadecyltrimethylammonium-TCNQ(1:1) complex was synthesized by the reaction of LiTCNQ with octadecyltrimethylammonium bromide and the reaction product was identified with FT-IR and UV/Vis spectroscopies. In order to prepare the LB films, ${\pi}-A$ isotherm characteristics of octadecyltrimethylammonium-TCNQ(1:1) complex were investigated. The LB films of octadecyltrimethylammonium-TCNQ(1:1) complex were formed on various substrates and the formation of ultrathin films of octadecyltrimethylammonium-TCNQ(1:1) complex was confirmed by using FT-IR and UV-Vis spectroscopies.

  • Biomass to Liquid (BTL) is an attractive option for using biomass as an renewable energy. A syngas supplying system has been designed for BTL system, based on the Fischer-Tropsche (FT) process, and long-term operation test was conducted. The syngas supplying system is composed of a fluidized bed gasifier, gas cleaning and compression system, and methanol absorption system. Stable operation of more than hundred hours was achieved with several champaigns. In addition, a pilot scale biomass gasifier has been developed for 1 bbl/day BTL system and its performance was evaluated. Some preliminary results and current status of the development of BTL system will be presented.
