EPGA Implementation and Verification of CSIX Module (CSIX 모듈의 FPGA 구현 및 검증)

  • CSIX-L1 is the Common Switch Interface that defines a physical interface for transferring information between a traffic manager (Network Processor) and a switching fabric in ATM, IP, MPLS, Ethernet and data communication areas. In Tx, data to be transmitted is generated in Cframe which is the base information unit and in Rx, original data is extracted from the received Cframe. CSIX-L1 suppots the 32, 64, 96, and 123-bit interface and generates a variable length CFrame and Idle Cframe. Also CSIX-L1 appends Padding byte and supports 16-bit Vertical parity, CSIX-L1 is designed using Xilinx 4,1i. After functional and timing simulations are completed. CSIX-L1 module is downloaded in Xilinx FPGA XCV1000EHQ240C and verified. The synthesized CSIX module operates at 27MHz.

  • In this paper, we implemented a memory controller which can accommodate data processing blocks. The memory controller is arbitrated by the internal arbiter which receives request signals from masters and sends grant and data signals to masters. The designed memory controller consists of Master Interface, Master Arbitrator, Memory Interface, Memory accelerator. It was designed using VHDL, and verified using the memory model of SAMSING Inc. For FPGA synthesis and verification, Quartus II of ATERA Inc. was used. The target device is Cyclone II. For simulation, ModelSim of Cadence Inc was used.

  • This paper describes an efficient hardware implementation of Whirlpool hash function as ISO/IEC 10118-3 standard. Optimized timing is achieved by using pipelined small LUTs, and Whirlpool block cipher and key schedule have been implemented in parallel for improving throughput. In key schedule, key addition is area-optimized by using inverters and muxes instead of using rom and xor gates. This hardware has been implemented on Virtex5-XC5VSX50T FPGA device. Its maximum operating frequency is about 151MHz, and throughput is about 950Mbps.

  • In 2005, DVB-S2 spec. was finalized. But with a large number of DVB-S receivers already installed, backwards compatibility may be required for a period of time, where old receivers continue to receive the same capacity as before, while the new DVB-S2 receivers could receive additional capacity broadcasts. To facilitate the reception of DVB-S serviced by DVB-S2 receivers, implementation of DVB-S in DVB-S2 chips is highly recommended. For the backward compatibility the system adapt the hierarchical modulation scheme. And the system has to meet system margin, so in this paper analyzes the effect according to the deviation angle and shows the BER performance. And finally this paper shows the result of the system implement using FPGA chip.

  • In this paper, an efficient hardware platform for the digital signal processing for OFDM Communication systems is presented. The hardware platform consists of a single FPGA, two DSPs with 8000 MIPS of maximum at 1 GHz clock, 2-channel ADC and DAC supporting maximum 125 MHz sampling rate, and flexible data bus architecture, so that a wide variety of baseband signal processing algorithms for practical OFDM communication systems may be implemented and tested. The IEEE 802.16 software modem is also presented in order to verify the effectiveness and usefulness of the designed platform.

  • In this Paper, we propose the color-temperature conversion method using an one-dimensional illuminant chromaticity. It also presents the design and the implementation of the proposed method. The performance of the method is compared with that of two-dimensional conversion method in Robertson's algorithm based on calculated color temperatures. The proposed method is demonstrated experimentally for color temperatures in the range of 3,000OK to 25,000OK with the Xilinx Virtex-E FPGA XCV2000E-6BG560.

HIL based LNGC PMS Simulator's Performance Verification (HIL 기반 LNGC PMS 시뮬레이터의 성능 검증)

  • A power management system (PMS) has been an important part in a ship integrated control system. To evaluate a PMS for a liquefied natural gas carrier (LNGC), this research proposes a real-time hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS), which is composed of major component models such as turbine generator, diesel generator, governor, circuit breaker, and 3-phase loads on MATLAB/Simulink. In addition, FPGA based control console and main switchboard (MSBD) are constructed in order to develop an efficient control and a similar real environment in an LNGC PMS. A comparative study on the performance evaluation of PMS functions is conducted using two test cases for sharing electric power to consumers in an LNGC. The result shows that the proposed system has a high verification capability for the operating function and failure insertion evaluation as a PMS simulator.

FPGA Implementation of SVM Engine for Training and Classification (기계학습 및 분류를 위한 SVM 엔진의 FPGA 구현)

  • SVM, a machine learning method, is widely used in image processing for it's excellent generalization performance. However, to add other data to the pre-trained data of the system, we need to train the entire system again. This procedure takes a lot of time, especially in embedded environment, and results in low performance of SVM. In this paper, we implemented an SVM trainer and classifier in an FPGA to solve this problem. We parlallelized the repeated operations inside SVM and modified the exponential operations of the kernel function to perform fixed point modelling. We implemented the proposed hardware on Xilinx ZC 706 evaluation board and used TSR algorithm to verify the FPGA result. It takes about 5 seconds for the proposed hardware to train 2,000 data samples and 16.54ms for classification for $1360{\times}800$ resolution in 100MHz frequency, respectively.

  • In this Paper, we propose an optimized method of hardware design based on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) to detect rotated angle of high definition image about Extreme Contour Point (ECP) algorithm with moving video image could be not happened to translation motion, but also physical rotation motion. It was evaluated by XC7Z020 xc7z020-3clg400 FPGA board by using xilinx 14.2 tool. The much well-known method, the Coordinate Rotation Digital Integrated Computation (CORDIC) is an algorithm to estimate rotated angle between point and point. Through the result both ECP and CORDIC, our proposed design are confirmed to have similar operating speed of about 4ns with CORDIC. However, it is verified to have high performance result in terms of the hardware cost, is much better than CORDIC with cost reduction of registers and Look Up Tables (LUTs) of 108% and 91%, respectively.

Real-time 3D Converting System using Stereoscopic Video (스테레오 비디오를 이용한 실시간 3차원 입체 변환 시스템)

  • In this paper, we implemented a real-time system which displays 3-dimensional (3D) stereoscopic image with stereo camera. The system consists of a set of stereo camera, FPGA board, and 3D stereoscopic LCD. Two CMOS image sensor were used for the stereo camera. FPGA which processes video data was designed with Verilog-HDL, and it can accommodate various resolutional videos. The stereoscopic image is configured by two methods which are side-by-side and up-down image configuration. After the left and right images are converted to the type for the stereoscopic display, they are stored into SDRAM. When the next frame is inputted into FPGA from two CMOS image sensors, the previous video data is output to the DA converter for displaying it. From this pipeline operation, the real-time operation is possible. After the proposed system was implemented into hardware, we verified that it operated exactly.
