In this study, the physical and chemical properties of mortar are evaluated by micro-analysis, taking into account the substitution rate(20%, 30%, and 40%) of zeolite with porous properties and active hwangtoh. First, the physical and chemical properties of zeolite and active hwangtoh are reviewed to confirm that the specific surface area of those is similar with ordinary portland cement, and the main chemical composition is SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, etc.. So, it is thought that they have the properties of pozolan reactive materials. As the results of the strength test considering the amount of substitution based on that of cement, It is confirmed that strength decreases with the increase of the replacement amount of zeolite and active hwangtoh, and the strength of mortar with replacement rate of 20% is higher than OPC mortar. It is confirmed that the amount of porosity is increased due to chemical properties of zeolite and active hwangtoh, and in particular, the size of the pore is greater than 1㎛ in mortar mixed with active hwangtoh.
The objective of this study is to perform finite element analyses using the anisotropic hardening constitutive model on the basis of the total stress concept. An anisotropic hardening constitutive model had been developed in a companion paper, and was then formulated by implicit stress integration and consistent tangent moduli. A nonlinear finite element analysis program was coded including the algorithm, and as a result, the nonlinear solution was accurately calculated and converged to be asymptotically quadratic. In the analysis of a test embankment it was found that the proposed model could predict the displacement of soils more reasonably than the analysis with von Mises type model. In addition the proposed model could predict accurately the actual behavior through the reanalysis of the problem by a reasonable evaluation of the strength parameter.

Recently, Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system which re-flow a cooled exhaust gas from vehicles burning diesel as fuel to a combustion chamber of engine has been used to solve the serious air pollution. For the design and mass production of EGR system, it is essential to ensure structural integrity evaluation. The EGR system consisted of ten dimpled oval core rectangular tubes, two fix-plates, two coolant pipes, shell body and two flanges in this study. To confirm the safety of the designed system, finite element modeling about each component such as the dimpled oval core tube with the dimpled shape and others was carried out. The reliability of EGR system against exhaust gas flow with high temperature was investigated by flow and pressure analysis in the system. Also, thermal and strength analysis were verified the safety of EGR system against temperature change in the shell and tubes. Furthermore, modal analysis using ANSYS was also performed. From the results of FE analysis, there were confirmed that EGR system was safe against the flow of exhaust gas, temperature change in EGR system and vibration on operation condition, respectively.

Dimensional analysis is an important tool for developing mathematical models of physical phenomena in order to understand the effects of laser shock peening(LSP) process parameters. By using the Bucking ${\prod}$ theorem, we proposed an applicable dimensional analysis method to verify the effects of LSP process parameters on the residual stresses. Furthermore, by using finite element analysis, we proposed a finite element method of LSP and discussed various parameters, such as peak pressure, pressure pulse duration, laser spot size, and multiple LSPs.
The ultrasonic guided wave-based technique has become one of the most promising methods in non-destructive evaluation and structural health monitoring, because of its advantages of large area inspection, evaluating inaccessible areas on the structure and high sensitivity to small damage. To further advance the development of damage detection technologies using ultrasonic guided waves for the inspection of welded components in structures, the transmission characteristics of the ultrasonic guided waves propagating through welded joints with various types of defects or damage in steel plates are studied and presented in this paper. A three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) model considering the different material properties of the mild steel, high strength steel and austenitic stainless steel plates and their corresponding welded joints as well as the interaction condition of the steel plate and welded joint, is developed. The FE model is validated against analytical solutions and experimental results reported in the literature and is demonstrated to be capable of providing a reliable prediction on the features of ultrasonic guided wave propagating through steel plates with welded joints and interacting with defects. Mode conversion and scattering analysis of guided waves transmitted through the different types of weld defects in steel plates are performed by using the validated FE model. Parametric studies are undertaken to elucidate the effects of several basic parameters for various types of weld defects on the transmission performance of guided waves. The findings of this research can provide a better understanding of the transmission behaviour of ultrasonic guided waves propagating through welded joints with defects. The method could be used for improving the performance of guided wave damage detection methods.
Shear connectors are required to build composite (concrete and steel) beams. They are placed at the interface of concrete and steel to transfer shear and normal forces between two structural components. Such composite beams are sensitive to provide structural integrity when exposed to fire as they loss strength, stiffness, and ductility at elevated temperature. The present study is designed to investigate the shear resistance and the failure modes of the headed stud shear connectors at fire exposure and post-fire exposure. The study includes ordinary concrete and concrete with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to build composite (concrete-steel) beams with structural steel. Experimental push tests were conducted on composite beams at ambient and elevated temperatures, such as 200, 400 & 600℃. Moreover, push tests were performed on the composite beams after being exposed to 200, 400 & 600℃. Push test results illustrated the reduction of ultimate shear capacity and stiffness of headed stud shear connectors as the temperature increased. Although similar values of ultimate shear were obtained for the headed stud connectors in both ordinary and CNT concrete, the CNT modified concrete reduced the concrete spalling and cracking compared to ordinary concrete and was observed to be effective at temperatures greater than 400℃. All specimens showed a lower shear resistance at fire exposures compared to the corresponding post-fire exposures. Moreover, numerical simulation by Finite Element (FE) analyses were carried out at ambient temperature and at fire conditions. The FE analysis results show a good agreement with the experimental results. In the experimental studies, failure of all specimens occurred due to shear failure of headed stud, which was later validated by FE analyses using ABAQUS.
The purpose of this study was to establish a numerical model of polyurethane foam (PUF) to simulate the dynamic response and strength of membrane-type Liquefied natural gas (LNG) Cargo containment system (CCS) under the impact load. To do this, initially, the visco-plastic behavior of PUF was characterized by testing the response of the PUF to the impact loads with various strain rates as well as PUF densities at room temperature and at cryogenic conditions. A PUF material model was established using the test results of the material and the FE analysis. To verify the validation of the established material model, simulations were performed for experimental applications, e.g., the dry drop test, and the results of FEA were compared to the experimental results. Based on this comparison, it was found that the dynamic response of PUF in dry drop tests, such as the reaction force and fracture behaviors, could be simulated successfully by the material model proposed in this study.
For high performance and structural stability, application of high strength steel has continuously increased. However, the change of the base metal gives rise to problems with the accuracy management of the welded structure. It is attributed to the martensite phase transformation of the high strength low alloy steel weldment. The purpose of this study is to establish the predictive equation of transverse shrinkage and residual stress for the HY-100 weldment. In order to do it, high speed quenching dilatometer tests were performed to define a coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE) at the heating and cooling stage of HY-100 with various cooling rates. Uncoupled thermal-mechanical finite element(FE) models with CTE were proposed to evaluate the effect of the martensite phase transformation on transverse shrinkage and residual stresses at the weldment. FEA results were verified by comparing with experimental results. Based on the results of extensive FEA and experiments, the predictive equation of transverse shrinkage and longitudinal shrinkage force at the HY-100 weldment were formulated as the function of welding heat input/in-plane rigidity and welding heat input respectively.

Enhanced tensile properties of fiber reinforced concrete make it suitable for strengthening of reinforced concrete elements due to their superior corrosion resistance and high tensile strength properties. Recently, the use of fibers as strengthening material has increased motivating the development of numerical tools for the design of this type of intervention technique. This paper presents numerical analysis results carried out on a set of concrete beams reinforced with short fibers. To this purpose, a database of experimental results was collected from an available literature. A reliable and simple three-dimensional Finite Element (FE) model was defined. The linear and nonlinear behavior of all materials was adequately modeled by employing appropriate constitutive laws in the numerical simulations. To simulate the fiber reinforced concrete cracking tensile behavior an approach grounded on the solid basis of micromechanics was used. The results reveal that the developed models can accurately capture the performance and predict the load-carrying capacity of such reinforced concrete members. Furthermore, a parametric study is conducted using the validated models to investigate the effect of fiber material type, fiber volume fraction, and concrete compressive strength on the performance of concrete beams.

The present study focuses on the mechanical behaviour of concrete filled double skin steel tubular (CFDST) stub columns confined by fiber reinforced polymer (FRP). A series of axial compression tests have been conducted on two CFDST stub columns, eight CFDST stub columns confined by FRP and a concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) stub column confined by FRP, respectively. The influences of hollow section ratio, FRP wall thickness and fibre longitudinal-circumferential proportion on the load-strain curve and the concrete stress-strain curve for stub columns with annular section were discussed. The test results displayed that the FRP jacket can obviously enhance the carrying capacity of stub columns. Based on the test results, a new model which includes the effects of confinement factor, hollow section ratio and lateral confining pressure of the outer steel tube was proposed to calculate the compressive strength of confined concrete. Using the present concrete strength model, the formula to predict the carrying capacity of CFDST stub columns confined by FRP was derived. The theoretically predicted results agree well with those obtained from the experiments and FE analysis. The present method is also adapted to calculate the carrying capacity of CFST stub columns confined by FRP.
