  • Image segmentation is teh important step in image infromation extraction for computer vison sytems. Fuzzy clustering methods have been used extensively in color image segmentation. Most analytic fuzzy clustering approaches are derived from the fuzzy c-means (FCM) algorithm. The FCM algorithm uses th eprobabilistic constraint that the memberships of a data point across classes sum to 1. However, the memberships resulting from the FCM do not always correspond to the intuitive concept of degree of belongingor compatibility. moreover, the FCM algorithm has considerable trouble above under noisy environments in the feature space. Recently, the possibilistic C-mean (PCM) for solving growing for color image segmentation. In the PCM, the membersip values may be interpreted as degrees of possibility of the data points belonging to the classes. So, the problems in the FCM can be solved by the PCM. The clustering results by just PCM are not smoothly bounded, and they often have holes. So, the region growing was used as a postprocessing. In our experiments, we illustrated that the proposed method is reasonable than the FCM in noisy enviironments.

  • This paper proposes an improved FCM(Fuzzy C-means) algorithm using intercluster and entropy-based weight in gray image. The fuzzy clustering methods have been extensively used in the image segmentation since it extracts feature information of the region. Most of fuzzy clustering methods have used the FCM algorithm. But, FCM algorithm is still sensitive to noise, as it does not include spatial information. In addition, it can't correctly classify pixels according to the feature-based distributions of clusters. To solve these problems, we applied a weight and intercluster to the traditional FCM algorithm. A weight is obtained from the entropy information based on the cluster's number of neighboring pixels. And a membership for one pixel is given based on the information considering the feature-based intercluster. Experiments has confirmed that the proposed method was more tolerant to noise and superior to existing methods.

  • As computer technology continues to develop, computer networks are now widely used. As a result, there are many new intrusion types appearing and information security is becoming increasingly important. Although there are many kinds of intrusion detection systems deployed to protect our modern networks, we are constantly hearing reports of hackers causing major disruptions. Since existing technologies all have some disadvantages, we utilize algorithms, such as the fuzzy C-means (FCM) and the support vector machine (SVM) algorithms to improve these technologies. Using these two algorithms alone has some disadvantages leading to a low classification accuracy rate. In the case of FCM, self-adaptability is weak, and the algorithm is sensitive to the initial value, vulnerable to the impact of noise and isolated points, and can easily converge to local extrema among other defects. These weaknesses may yield an unsatisfactory detection result with a low detection rate. We use a genetic algorithm (GA) to help resolve these problems. Our experimental results show that the combined GA and FCM algorithm's accuracy rate is approximately 30% higher than that of the standard FCM thereby demonstrating that our approach is substantially more effective.

  • Clustering is one of the well-known unsupervised learning methods, in which a data set is grouped into some number of homogeneous clusters. There are numerous clustering algorithms available and they have been used in various applications. Fuzzy c-means (FCM), the most well-known partitional clustering algorithm, was established in 1970's and still in use. However, there are some unsolved problems in FCM and variants of FCM are still under development. In this paper, the problems in FCM are first explained and the available solutions are investigated, which is aimed to give researchers some possible ways of future research. Most of the FCM variants try to solve the problems using domain knowledge specific to a given problem. However, in this paper, we try to give general solutions without using any domain knowledge. Although there are more things left than discovered, this paper may be a good starting point for researchers newly entered into a clustering area.

  • The advantage of the remote sensing is extraction the information of wide area rapidly. Such advantage is the resource and environment are quick and efficient method to grasps accurately method through the land cover classification of wide area. Accordingly this study was presented more better land cover classification method through an algorithm development. We accomplished FCM(Fuzzy C-Mean) classification technique with MLC (Maximum Likelihood classification) technique to be general land cover classification method in the content of research. And evaluated the accuracy assessment of two classification method. This study is used to the high-resolution(6.6m) Electro-Optical Camera(EOC) panchromatic image of the first Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite 1(KOMPSAT-1) and the multi-spectral Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS) image data(36 bands).

  • The measuring systems of auto-parts are most of greater part very expensive. This paper tries to study to make a low-cost measuring equipment. There's several kinds of parts in automobile. In this study, we take aircon-switch called magnet coil-housing as the object of measurements. The measurements of this product is currently in difficult situations at factory. In the case of the mesuring objects being big sizes and camera sensor having under 410000 pixels, the key point is the number of pixels not to be changed whenever the same object is measured under the same position. We modified and used fuzzy c-means algorithm to get mostly without the change of the numbers of pixels exactly. Also, the standardized ruler is necessary to measure the length of the object but it is not easy to get the precised ruler. Therefore, the standard length has been taken as the mean value of the pixels in the previous passed objects manually obtained at factory. The results are displayed on monitor and transferred these signals to the microprocessor through RSC-232 port to determine a good or bad of products.

  • Fuzzy c-means (FCM) and possibilistic c-means (PCM) are the two most well-known clustering algorithms in fuzzy clustering area, and have been applied in many applications in their original or modified forms. However, FCM's noise sensitivity problem and PCM's overlapping cluster problem are also well known. Recently there have been several attempts to combine both of them to mitigate the problems and possibilistic fuzzy c-means (PFCM) showed promising results. In this paper, we proposed a modified PFCM using regularization to reduce noise sensitivity in PFCM further. Regularization is a well-known technique to make a solution space smooth and an algorithm noise insensitive. The proposed algorithm, PFCM with regularization (PFCM-R), can take advantage of regularization and further reduce the effect of noise. Experimental results are given and show that the proposed method is better than the existing methods in noisy conditions.

  • An image segmentation model using fuzzy c-means with intuition (FCM-I) model is proposed for the segmentation of magnetic resonance image in this paper. In FCM-I, a measurement called intuition level is adopted so that the intuition level helps to alleviate the effect of noises. A practical magnetic resonance image data set is used for image segmentation experiment and the performance is compared with those of some conventional algorithms. Results show that the segmentation method based on FCM-I compares favorably to several conventional clustering algorithms. Since FCM-I produces cluster prototypes less sensitive to noises and to the selection of involved parameters than the other algorithms, FCM-I is a good candidate for image segmentation problems.

  • Mobility of an indoor wheeled robot is affected by adhesion force that is related to various floor conditions. When the adhesion force between driving wheels and floor decreases suddenly, the robot begins slip. In order to overcome this slip problem, optimal slip velocity must be decided for stable movement of wheeled robot. First of all, this paper shows that conventional PI control can not be applied to a wheeled robot of the light weight. Secondly, proposed fuzzy logic is applied to the Takagi-Sugeno model for the configuration of fuzzy sets. For the design of Takagi-Sugeno model and fuzzy rule, proposed algorithm uses FCM(Fuzzy c-mean clustering method) algorithm. In additionally, this algorithm adjusts the driving torque for restraining re-slip. The proposed fuzzy logic controller(FLC) is pretty useful with prevention of the slip phenomena for the controller performance in the re-adhesion control strategy, These procedures are implemented using a Pioneer 2-DXE wheeled robot parameter.
