  • As a result of continuous taxonomic investigations of Korean crabs, Pugettia intermedia Sakai, 1938 is newly reported from Korean waters. Pugettia intermedia had previously been reported in Korean fauna, but the previous reports of P. intermedia were resulted in misidentification of P. quadridens (De Haan, 1839). Pugettia intermedia differs from P. quadridens in having two subequal medial lobes of the first pleopod in male. In P. quadridens, one of the two medial lobes is about half-length of the other. Pugettia intermedia occurs on the southern coast of the Korean peninsula. The descriptions and illustrations of this species are provided herein.

  • Two marine gastrotrich species of the genus Acanthodasys, A. ericinus Lee, 2012 and A. comtus Lee, 2012, are taxonomically reconsidered. Both of them were originally described based on the specimens from intertidal or sublittoral sandy bottom of the Yellow Sea and Jeju Island, South Korea, and included in a monographical publication of in 2012. However, the description of them was quite insufficient, and designations of type specimens were entirely lacking. In this study, we make a subsequent designation of type specimens for the two Acanthodasys species, and carry out a full redescription of them with additional remarks on their morphological micro-characteristics by scanning electronic microscopy. Some brief nomenclatural notes on Korean marine gastrotrichs are also provided.

  • The study on shellfish fauna around eleven artificial lakes was carried out from April to September in 1986. The identified shellfishes in total surveyed area are composed of 13 species, 6 families, 4 orders, 2 classes and among them, the dominant species was Semisulcospira forticosta. Corbicula japonica which had been inhabited in Paltangho was collected in Chunchonho and Uiamho in this study. Consequently, the distributional area was gone up north. Especially, Radix auricularia, Parafossarulus manchuricus and Austropeplea ollula were collected in Paltangho and Uiamho are indicators of $\alpha$-mesosaprobe. Therefore it is necessary the countermearsure on management of water quality for the security of the source of water supply.

  • The freshwater fish fauna of Chirisan National Park, where dramatic environment changes will be expected due to develop tour and hiking, was censused to establish base line data for natural conservation program Four species belonging to 3 families included in Cyprindae, Amblycitidas and the present fishes were collected in this region. Dominant species was dark chub, therefore chareful organization of the tour development and the preservation of ichthyological fauna are strongly recommended.

  • This study investigated the composition and distribution of the soil microarthropods community in plantations of the Korean pine(Pinus Koraiensis SIEB. et ZUCC, the sudong area, Namyangju-gun, Korea) , which had been planted in different years. The soil samples intended to collect soil animals were taken monthly from June 1988 to July 1989. The composition of soil microarthropods community included Arachnida, Chilopoda, Insecta, Collembola, Diplopoda, Crustacea, and Symphyla. The Acarina were composed of 82.4% of Cryptostigmata, 8.0% of Mesostigmata, 7.9% of nymphs, and 1.7% of others. The Insecta included six orders including Hymenoptera(65.8%) and Diptera(13.9%). Population densities increased from when the plantations were first established until the planting were 25 years old, after which they declined. Population densities of the soil microarthropods were highest in July and lowest in January. The Collembola/Acarina ratio is 0.16 overall, and was highest in January and lowest in August.

  • In 2017, during a survey of the anthozoan fauna in the Hallyeohaesang National Park in the South Sea, several Acanthogorgia specimens were collected from the subtidal zone. Through taxonomic analysis, one species, Acanthogorgia densiflora $K{\ddot{u}}kenthal$ & Gorzawsky, 1908, was found to be previously unreported from Korea, and was, therefore, newly added to the list of Korean anthozoan fauna. This species is distributed on the slopes of the rocky substratum between depths of 14 and 24 m. Including the findings from this study, ten species of the genus Acanthogorgia have thus been reported from the Korean waters until now.
