  • The metallation of $\alpha$-methylpyridine 1(a∼f) with n-BuLi produced $\alpha-methylenylpyridinium$ salt 3(a∼f) by elimination of butane. The trapping reactions of 3(a∼f) with $Me_3SiCl\;and\;Me_2SiClCH(SiMe_3)CH_2tBu$ produced only 4(a∼f) and 5(a∼f). The $\alpha$-hydrogen atom of silylated methylene group in 4(a∼f) is more reactive than unreacted $CH_3$ of 4(a∼f) itself and 1(a∼f) toward n-BuLi at low temperature in pentane medium.

  • In this paper, we introduce a second order linear differential operator T□: C (M) → C (M) as a natural generalization of Cheng-Yau operator, [8], where T is a (1, 1)-tensor on Riemannian manifold (M, h), and then we show on compact Riemannian manifolds, divT = divTt, and if divT = 0, and f be a smooth function on M, the condition T□ f = 0 implies that f is constant. Hereafter, we introduce T-energy functionals and by deriving variations of these functionals, we define T-harmonic maps between Riemannian manifolds, which is a generalization of Lk-harmonic maps introduced in [3]. Also we have studied fT-harmonic maps for conformal immersions and as application of it, we consider fLk-harmonic hypersurfaces in space forms, and after that we classify complete fL1-harmonic surfaces, some fLk-harmonic isoparametric hypersurfaces, fLk-harmonic weakly convex hypersurfaces, and we show that there exists no compact fLk-harmonic hypersurface either in the Euclidean space or in the hyperbolic space or in the Euclidean hemisphere. As well, some properties and examples of these definitions are given.

  • The effect of transgene inactivation in T2, T3 and F2 generations was analyzed in progeny seedlings which had been generated by Agrobacterium (LBA4404/pBI121)-mediated transformation in Arabidopsis thaliana. In a system which investigated in the expression of $\beta$-glucuronidase(GUS)gene in kanamycin-resistant (ke $n^{R}$)seedlings, GUS inactivated seedlings were observed in 5 of 12 tested lines of T2 generation and the frequency of GUS inactivation was approximately 2.3%. Lines with multi-copies of T-DNA exhibited severe GUS gene inactivation with the frequency of 5.8% in T2 generation. In T3 generation lines exhibited GUS gene inactivation with the frequency of 1.3%. In contrast, inactivation increased dramatically up to 12.6% in multi-copy T-DNA line. A similar phenomenon was also found in F2 progeny from a transgenic line which had been crossed with wild-type Arabidopsis plant, WS-O (GUS gene inactivation frequency 9.9%). These results indicate that the foreign gene introduced into the plant was inactivated progressively in its transmission during subsequent generations and the transgenic line with multi-copies of T-DNA tended to show more increased inactivation.

  • Purpose: F-18 FDG PET/CT has excellent sensitivity and specificity for staging non-Hodgkin lymphomas, but to the author's knowledge few studies to date have evaluated FDG PET/CT in peripheral T cell lymphoma. We evaluated the usefulness of F-18 FDG PET/CT in staging of patients with peripheral T cell lymphoma, especially indolent cutaneous T cell lymphomas. Materials and Methods: Twenty five patients (M:F=17:8, age $53.7{\pm}14.8$ yrs) with biopsy-proven indolent cutaneous T cell (CL) or noncutaneous T cell lymphomas (NCL) underwent PET/CT scans for staging at baseline. Peak standardized uptake values (p-SUV) of all abnormal foci were measured and compared between cutaneous and noncutaneous lesions. F-18 FDG PET/CT was performed on 6 patients with indolent CL and on 19 patients with NCL. Results: All 6 patients with indolent CL had no significant FDG avidity in the skin despite histologically positive cutaneous lesions. However, FDG avidity appeared in extracutaneous lesions (lymph nodes) in two patients with CL where CT imaging suggested lymphoma involvement (mean p-SUV $4.26{\pm}0.37$ in noncutaneous lesions in CL). In NCL, FDG avidity was demonstrated in all lesions where CT imaging suggested lymphoma involvement (mean p-SUV, $8.52{\pm}5.00$ in noncutaneous lesions in NCL). Conclusion: F-18 FDG PET/CT has the limitation of usefulness for the evaluation of the skin in indolent CL. In contrast, F-18 FDG PET/CT is sensitive in staging evaluation of extracutaneous lesions regardless of CL or NCL.

  • This study was carried out to measure formaldehyde emission with the passing of two years from plywood, sliver-board and strand-board bonded with urea resins which were made of 6 f/U molar ratios. The urea resins were manufactured by six kinds of formaldehyde/urea molar ratio of 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0. 1. The plywood with molar ratio of 1.0 satisfied the KS F3101 $F_2$ directly after manufacture. The plywood with molar ratio of 1.2 satisfied m 3 days. The plywood with molar ratio of 1.4 satisfied the $F_3$ in 3 days and the $F_2$ in 600 days. And the plywood with molar ratio of 1.8 and 2.0 satisfied the $F_3$ in 365 days, but didn't satisfy the $F_2$ in 730 days. 2. Sliver-board with molar ratio of 1.0 and 1.2 satisfied the KS F3104 $E_2$ right after manufacture. Sliver-board with molar ratio of 1.4 and 1.6 satisfied in 150 and 360 days, respectively. Sliver-board with molar ratio of 1.8 and 2.0 satisfied in 730 days. 3. Strand-board with molar ratio of 1.0 and 1.2 satisfied the KS F3104$ E_2$ directly after manufacture. Strand-board with molar ratio of 1.4 and 1.6 satisfied in 150 days. But Strand-board with molar ratio of 1.8 and 2.0 didn't satisfied in 730 days.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the relationships among the functional status, hostility, and social support in patients with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The subjects were comprised of 135 patients who had received PCI from two general hospitals in Seoul, Korea. The functional status differed significantly according to gender (t=5.880, p<0.001), age (F=23.620, p<0.001), education (F=17.718, p<0.001), occupation (t=-6.498, p<0.001), monthly income (F=7.237, p<0.001), and smoking (t=2.327, p=0.025). The hostility differed significantly according to age (F=6.150, p=0.001), period after PCI (F=6.141, p=0.001), and family history (t=2.514, p=0.013). Differences were observed in the scores for social support according to age (F=2.866, p=0.039) and education (F=5.136, p=0.002). Significant positive correlations were found among functional status and social support (r=.20, p=0.025), friends support (r=.22, p=0.010) and a significant negative correlation between functional status and hostility (r=-.24, p=0.005). A significant negative correlation was found between hostility and friends support (r=-.17, p=0.046). Nurses should consider the characteristics of patients who have undergone PCI and develop nursing intervention programs to improve their functional status, hostility, and social support.

  • This study has been done for the purpose of investigating the degrees of death orientation and terminal care performance. The factors related to these two variables, and the relationship between death orientation and terminal care performance. The subjects of study were 128 nurses who implemented nursing care for terminally ill patients at C University Hospital in Kwang Ju city. The data were collected from March 13 to 19, 1996, by means of Death Orientation by Thorson Powell(1988) and Terminal Care Performance Scale by researcher. The data were analysed by t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The Results of this study were summarized as follows : 1. The mean score of death orientation was 61.4. The degree of death orientation showed no significant difference depending on the general characteristics of nurses. 2. The mean score of terminal care performance was 45.5. In comparison of the degree of terminal care performance among three domains, the mean score of each item tended to show higher degrees in order of 'Psychological domain(2.4)', 'Physical domain(2.2)', 'Spiritual domain(1.9)'. 3. The degree of terminal care performance showed significant differences in age(F=11.48 p=.0001), marital status(t=10.49 p=.0015), religion(t=5.01 p=.0270), period of clinical experience(F=10.30 p=.0001) and ward unit(F=3.73 p=.0036). The degree of terminal care performance in physical domain showed significant differences in age(F=7.26 p=.0010), marital status(t=9.72 p=.0023), period of clinical experience(F=7.03 p=.0013), ward unit(F=6.23 p=.0001). The degree of terminal care performance in psychological domain showed significant differences in age(F=8.73 p=.0003), marital status(t=4.22 p=.0419), religion(t=5.59 p=.0196), period of clinical experience(F=6.36 p=.0023), ward unit(F=3.33 p=.0075). The degree of terminal care performance in spiritual domain showed significant differences in age(F=8.30 p=.0004), marital status(t=10.45 p=.0016), religion(F=5.41 p=.0216), period of clinical experience(F=8.80 p=.0003). 4.
