Purpose: The purpose of this study were to describe the level of activities of daily living (ADLs) and fatigue of stroke patients and to identify related factors of ADLs and fatigue. Method: A sample of 132 were used who were recovering from stroke. The face-to-face interviews were conducted to collect data. The levels of ADLs and fatigue were evaluated using the Modified Barthel Index and Kim's fatigue scale respectively. A series of t-test and analysis of variance analyses were conducted to examine study purposes using SPSS 15.0. Results: The levels of fatigue and ADLs were 65.6 (SD=16.52) and 74.6 (SD=22.32) respectively. Significantly poorer ADLs were found: women (t=2.05, p=.001), older people aged ${\geq}$ 70 years (F=2.74, p=.046), the duration of onset (F=4.34, p=.006), the use of assist devices (F=35.64, p<.001), the parts of paralysis (F=4.25, p=.007), the time to attack (F=3.34, p=.039), and accompanying symptoms (F=15.23, p<.001). There was a significant difference in fatigue with patients with lower accompanying symptoms having lower fatigue (F=11.08, p<.001). Conclusion: These findings suggest gender, the duration from onset, the use of assist device, the parts of paralysis, the time to attack and accompanying symptoms were significant factors of the ADLs and fatigue post stroke. These factors should be considered when developing and testing nursing intervention programs for stroke survivors.
The attenuation characteristics($Q^{-1}$) are important factors representing the physical properties of the Earth interiors, and are essential for the quantitative prediction of strong ground-motion. Based on 156 earthquakes including 76 single-station record on the seismic station located Deok-jung Ri, southeastern Korea, we made the simultaneous measurement of P and S wave attenuation($Q_P^{-1}\;and\;Q_S^{-1}$) by means of extended coda-normalization method. Estimated $Q_P^{-1}\;and\;Q_S^{-1}$ decreased from $1{\times}10^{-2}\;and\;9{\times}10^{-3}$ at 1.5 Hz to $6{\times}10^{-4}\;and\;5{\times}10^{-4}$ at 24 Hz, respectively. This can be expressed by $Q_P^{-1}=0.01\;f^{-1.07}\;and\;Q_S^{-1}=0.01\;f^{-1.03}$ which indicate strong frequency dependence.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find which variables among impulsiveness, aggression, and emotional intelligence can predict the game addiction of elementary school students best. Method: We conducted the present study during the period from April 15, 2004 through June 5, 2004. The subjects of this study were elementary school students chosen from three elementary schools in the Daejeon area. The subjects were selected randomly from 4th, 5th, and 6th graders in those schools. The number of subjects selected was 601. The measurement tools used were the general information questionnaire, computer game addiction scales, impulsiveness scales. aggression scales, and emotional intelligence scales. The data was analyzed using the SPSS statistics program. Results: The mean score of the students was 49.94 on the computer game addiction scale. 56.17 on the impulsiveness scale, 141.19 on the aggression scale, while the mean score of the students on the emotional intelligence scale was 162.78. Various factors were significantly different in the levels of computer game addiction: grade (F=7.343. p=.000). sex (t=6.352. p=.000), school record (F=4.263. p=.004), parents' computer use (F=4.097. p= .008), history of playing games (F=10.739. p=.000), frequency of playing games (F=61.254. p=.000). and number of computer game titles (F=61.673. p= .004). The computer game addiction had significant correlations with impulsiveness (r= .401. p=.000), aggression (r=.612. p=.000). and emotional intelligence (r=.536, p=.000). All three factors of impulsiveness, aggression, and emotional intelligence affected the level of game addiction. Among these factors. the aggression affected the level of addiction the most. Conclusion: These results will help the development of a systematic program for the prevention and treatment of computer game addiction by clarifying the effects of the computer game addiction upon the elementary school students' impulsiveness, aggression, and emotional intelligence.
Purpose: This study was to examine the effects of electrical muscle stimulation therapy on chronic knee pain in the elderly. Method: The research design was a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 45 (TE: 17, SE: 15, SY: 13) elderly, 65 years old and above with chronic knee pain. Pain was measured by the S-F McGill Pain Questuionnaire (S-F MPQ) and Arthritis Impact Measurement Scale (AIMS). Electrical muscle stimulation therapy experimental treatment was applied for 12 weeks, 3 times/week, 15 min/time. Data was collected from March 2005 to February 2006. Data was analyzed using the SPSS PC+ 12 version. Results: After receiving electrical muscle stimulation therapy, chronic knee pain in TE (S-F MPQ: t=-62.143, p=.000, AIMS: t=-29.155, p=.000), SE (S-F MPQ: t=-76.345, p=.000, AIMS: t=-39.323, p=.000), and SY (S-F MPQ: t=-43.691, p=.000, AIMS: t=-30.306, p=.000) groups were significantly decreased. Conclusion: Electrical muscle stimulation therapy can be a better effective primary nursing intervention for chronic knee pain for community dwelling elderly people with TE, SE, and SY.
The prediction of pressure drop for a droplet flow in a confined micro channel is presented using FE-FTM (Finite Element - Front Tracking Method). A single droplet is passing through 5:1:5 contraction - straight narrow channel - expansion flow domain. The pressure drop is investigated especially when the droplet flows in the straight narrow channel. We explore the effects of droplet size, capillary number (Ca), viscosity ratio ($\chi$) between droplet and medium, and fluid elasticity represented by the Oldroyd-B constitutive model on the excess pressure drop (${\Delta}p^+$) against single phase flow. The tightly fitted droplets in the narrow channel are mainly considered in the range of $0.001{\leq}Ca{\leq}1$ and $0.01{\leq}{\chi}{\leq}100$. In Newtonian droplet/Newtonian medium, two characteristic features are observed. First, an approximate relation ${\Delta}p^+{\sim}{\chi}$ observed for ${\chi}{\geq}1$. The excess pressure drop necessary for droplet flow is roughly proportional to $\chi$. Second, ${\Delta}p^+$ seems inversely proportional to Ca, which is represented as ${\Delta}p^+{\sim}Ca^m$ with negative m irrespective of $\chi$. In addition, we observe that the film thickness (${\delta}_f$) between droplet interface and channel wall decreases with decreasing Ca, showing ${\delta}_f{\sim}Ca^n$ Can with positive n independent of $\chi$. Consequently, the excess pressure drop (${\Delta}p^+$) is strongly dependent on the film thickness (${\delta}_f$). The droplets larger than the channel width show enhancement of ${\Delta}p^+$, whereas the smaller droplets show no significant change in ${\Delta}p^+$. Also, the droplet deformation in the narrow channel is affected by the flow history of the contraction flow at the entrance region, but rather surprisingly ${\Delta}p^+$ is not affected by this flow history. Instead, ${\Delta}p^+$ is more dependent on ${\delta}_f$ irrespective of the droplet shape. As for the effect of fluid elasticity, an increase in ${\delta}_f$ induced by the normal stress difference in viscoelastic medium results in a drastic reduction of ${\Delta}p^+$.

Fertilization is required to keep the balance of tissue nutrients and to produce high quality seedlings at the permanent nursery. This study was conducted to verify the optimum fertilization method for Fraxinus rhynchophylla, F. mandshurica, Pinus koraiensis, and Abies holophylla seedlings with vector diagnosis method. Seven treatments include nitrogen (N, $13.8g{\cdot}m^{-2}$), phosphorus (P, $6.1g{\cdot}m^{-2}$), potassium ($7.5g{\cdot}m^{-2}$) fertilization and 1x (N $6.9g{\cdot}m^{-2}$, P $3.05g{\cdot}m^{-2}$, K $3.65g{\cdot}m^{-2}$), 2x (twice of 1x), 4x (four times of 1x) fertilization and no fertilization. Soil pH decreased as fertilization increased. Nitrogen and NPK fertilization decreased exchangeable $Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$ concentrations. Height and root collar diameter of F. rhynchophylla and F. mandshurica significantly increased with N and NPK fertilization, but those of P. koraiensis and A. holophylla did not. The biomass of F. rhynchophylla and F. mandshurica was about twice higher at NPK fertilization compared to the control. The responses of vector diagnosis were different by tree species and fertilization treatment: F. rhynchophylla was in the status of N "dilution", which means the N concentration decreases with N content. Phosphorus and K were "sufficiency" state with 4x fertilization. F. mandshurica showed "retranslocation" as N content decreased without change of dry weight at N, P, K fertilization, but "dilution" state at NPK fertilization. This result suggested that optimal fertilization was required for F. rhynchophylla and F. mandshurica in seedling production stage, but was not essential for P. koraiensis and A. holophylla.

There was a statistically significant difference in critical thinking disposition(F=14.36, p=.00)according to senior nursing students in three types of nursing programs. 2. There was a statistically significant difference in critical thinking disposition(F=5.53, p=.00) according to age, marital status(t=-3.15, p=.00), religion(F=3.26, p=.02) and critical thinking course taken previously(t=3.10, p=.00). Conclusion: There was a statistically significant difference in critical thinking disposition(F=14.36, p=.00) according to senior nursing students in three types of nursing program. There was a statistically significant difference in Critical thinking disposition according to age, marital status, religion, logic, philosophy, critical thinking course.
Purpose: The purposes of this study are to examine and to compare factors causing stress and coping methods between nephrology nurses working in the Hospitals of University and the Hemodialysis Clinics. Method: Data were collected by a direct survey method using a questionnaire from August 13 to August 31, 2001. The sample of 137 nephrology nurses in the twenty-one Hospitals of University and 168 nephrology nurses in the twenty-six Hemodialysis Clinics were selected for a total sample of 305 nurses. Result: Stress according to general characteristics showed a significant difference in religion and in the level of satisfaction for their work. Stress score was the highest in the nurses whose religion was Buddhism(F=4.846, P=0.008) and in the group with 'dissatisfied' for the work in the Hemodialysis unit(F=3.193, P=0.014). The results analyzed coping method according to the general characteristics had a significant difference only in religion(F=16.237, P=0.000). The score for the coping method was the highest in Buddism. The score compared the satisfaction level for their work according to the hospital type, were 3.55 in the Hospital of University group and 3.35 in the Hemodialysis clinic group and these two values were significant different(p<0.05). The mean score of the stress nephrology nurses in the Hospitals of University is 2.79 and that of the stress nephrology nurses in the Hemodialysis clinics is 2.78 of 4 point scale. Among the factors causing stress, items related nursing work and conflict in nurse-patient relationship significantly caused more stress to the nephrology nurses in the Hospitals of University than to those in the Hemodialysis clinics(p<0.05). Conclusion: This study suggests that there were some differences in the stress and coping methods between nephrology nurses in the hospitals of University and the Hemodialysis clinics. Further study related to stress management program is needed to decrease stress and use effective coping methods.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between fatigue, and self-efficacy in patients with lung cancer. Method: The data was collected from January 21th to April 8th 2001. The study subjects were recruited from K hospital in Pusan, Korea. Their fatigue was measured using the 22-item Revised Piper Fatigue Scale developed by Piper et al. (1998) and translated by the investigators, and self-efficacy was measured using the 10-item General Self-efficacy Questionnaire developed by Lee, Schwarzer & Jerusalem. The data were analyzed by SPSS 10.0 program using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Post-hoc test (Scheffe's test), and Pearson Correlation Coefficients. Result: 1) The mean fatigue score was $118.48{\pm}33.02$ (range: 22-220). The scores for sub-dimension were $35.40{\pm}10.06$ in behavior/severity, $25.98{\pm}9.06$ in affective score, $27.88{\pm}10.06$ in sensory score, and $29.22{\pm}8.27$ in cognitive/mood. The mean self-efficacy score was $28.80{\pm}5.85$. 2). There were significant differences in the fatigue of patients with lung cancer on income per month (F=4.651, p= .014), 'present pain' (F=2.601, p= .012), 'change of weight' (F=5.911, p= .005), by general characteristics. 3) There were significant differences in the self-efficacy of patients with lung cancer on 'religion' (F=3.732, p= .031), 'employment status' (F=5.525, p= .003), 'past therapy' (F=2.869, p= .034), by general characteristics 4) There was a significant negative correlation between fatigue and self-efficacy (r=- .528, p= .000). Conclusion: Patients with lung cancer experience fatigue. Increased fatigue is associated with decreased self-efficacy. Nurses must provide patients with nursing care for the less occurrence of fatigue and interventions to manage self-efficacy for them.
