  • Spectral clustering has become a typical and efficient clustering method used in a variety of applications. The critical step of spectral clustering is the similarity measurement, which largely determines the performance of the spectral clustering method. In this paper, we propose a novel spectral clustering algorithm based on the local similarity measure of shared neighbors. This similarity measurement exploits the local density information between data points based on the weight of the shared neighbors in a directed k-nearest neighbor graph with only one parameter k, that is, the number of nearest neighbors. Numerical experiments on synthetic and real-world datasets demonstrate that our proposed algorithm outperforms other existing spectral clustering algorithms in terms of the clustering performance measured via the normalized mutual information, clustering accuracy, and F-measure. As an example, the proposed method can provide an improvement of 15.82% in the clustering performance for the Soybean dataset.

  • We measure X-ray timing and spectral properties of the pulsar PSR J0205+6449. Pulsar's rotation frequency ν = 15.20102357(9) s-1 and its derivative ${\dot{\nu}}=-4.5(1){\times}10^{-11}s^{-2}$ are measured, and the pulsed spectrum of 2-30 keV is model of power law with photon index psr = 1.07(16) and F2-30 keV = 7.3(6) × 10-13 erg cm-2 s-1. We use thermal emission models and non-thermal model to fit the pulsar spectrum and measure the surface temperature and luminosity of the pulsar. The surface temperature T∞ = 0.5-0.8 MK and luminosity Lth = 1-5 × 1032 erg s-1 are measure, and this result verifies the previous results known to have low surface temperature and luminosity for the age range of

  • For a prime number p, let $\mathbb{Q}_p$ denote the p-adic field and let $\mathbb{Q}_p^d$ denote a vector space over $\mathbb{Q}_p$ which consists of all d-tuples of $\mathbb{Q}_p$. For a function f ${\in}L_{loc}^1(\mathbb{Q}_p^d)$, we define the Hardy-Littlewood maximal function of f on $\mathbb{Q}_p^d$ by $$M_pf(x)=sup\frac{1}{\gamma{\in}\mathbb{Z}|B_{\gamma}(x)|H}{\int}_{B\gamma(x)}|f(y)|dy$$, where |E|$_H$ denotes the Haar measure of a measurable subset E of $\mathbb{Q}_p^d$ and $B_\gamma(x)$ denotes the p-adic ball with center x ${\in}\;\mathbb{Q}_p^d$ and radius $p^\gamma$. If 1 < q $\leq\;\infty$, then we prove that $M_p$ is a bounded operator of $L^q(\mathbb{Q}_p^d)$ into $L^q(\mathbb{Q}_p^d)$; moreover, $M_p$ is of weak type (1, 1) on $L^1(\mathbb{Q}_p^d)$, that is to say, |{$x{\in}\mathbb{Q}_p^d:|M_pf(x)|$>$\lambda$}|$_H{\leq}\frac{p^d}{\lambda}||f||_{L^1(\mathbb{Q}_p^d)},\;\lambda$ > 0 for any f ${\in}L^1(\mathbb{Q}_p^d)$.

  • The present research investigated the characteristics of voice between genders and nationalities by measuring the acoustic parameter values of Korean and Chinese students. Sound Forge was used to collect voice samples and Praat was used to measure and analyze jitter, shimmer, NHR, $sF_0$, and pitch range. The results of this research are a follows. First, during prolongation of the vowels, there was no significant difference in $F_0$ between Korean and Chinese males and Korean and Chinese females. Korean males and females had higher $F_0$ values than Chinese males and females. Secondly, during sentence reading, there was no significant difference between Korean and Chinese males in $sF_0$. But between female groups, there was a significant difference in $sF_0$. Thirdly, during sentence reading, the pitch range in Korean males was found to be narrower compared to Korean and Chinese females who had wider pitch range, showing a significant difference. Fourthly, jitter in the five vowels /a, i, u, e, o/ was found to be higher in Chinese than Korean subjects. In the vowels /a, e, u/ females were higher than males showing a significant difference. Fifthly, shimmer in the vowels /a, e, u/ was found to be higher in Chinese than Korean subjects showing a significant difference. Finally, NHR in the vowels /a, u, o/ was found to be higher in Chinese than Korean subjects showing a significant difference.

  • The objectives of this study are twofold: (1) to evaluate the cockpit of three Korean air force fighters such as F-4, F-5, and F-16 in an ergonomic perspective and (2) to measure the musculoskeletal discomfort of the fighter pilots. For the study, 369 air force pilots from 7 squadrons were surveyed. The study shows that the cockpit design of F-16 is superior to the others. However, F-4 is the worst among them. Statistical analyses reveal that the seat in the cockpit raised the most complaints, regardless of types of fighter planes. The main problems with the seat included inappropriate designs of the backrest angle, seat cushioning, and parachute harness. Also frequently cited are various control switches, control stick, rudder pedal, and the throttle. That these items lack human integration is found in remote positions and improper dimensions. The implications of these findings are discussed. The self-reported musculoskeletal complaints show that the main discomfort is on the back and neck. Also, the buttocks, shoulders, and the legs/knees are common sites of discomfort. A stepwise regression analysis shows that the back discomfort, is mainly caused by the use of the seat, rudder pedal, control stick, and switches. A Spearman rank correlation coefficient test also reveals that job dissatisfaction of the pilots is related to the complaints with the cockpit and musculoskeletal discomfort. These findings suggest that more comprehensive studies for cockpit design in the aspects of functional anthropometry of Korean pilots are needed to reduce the musculoskeletal discomfort.

  • The diets used to this experiment were composed only of stock diet for group A, a mixture of stock diet and 2% cholesterol for group B, and 5%, 10% perilia powder for group C, D and 5%, 10% pine nut for group E, F in addition to group B diet respectively. All groups fed with these experimental diets for 3 weeks were fasted for 15 hours at the end of the experiment, and then they were decapitated to take serum. The serum was used to measure the level of glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol and lipoprotein composition. The results were summarized as follows. 1. Perilla and pine nut diets have no influence on body weight and food intake in cholesterolfed male rats 2. The blood glucose level was not changed significantly at groups C-F. 3. Total cholesterol level was significantly decreased by 21.6% ~ 29.7% at group C-F than at group B. 4. HDL-cholesterol level was increased by 51.3% ~ 86.1% at group C-F than at Group B. 5. The $\alpha/\beta$ ratio which is 0.51 at the group A was risen to 0.99 at the group B. However, this ratio was decreased to 0.5 0 - 0.51 at group C, D and to 0.68 - 0.69 at group E.F.

  • Many researchers have recently proposed various parameters, variables of models and experimental methods to evaluate fracture properties of concrete, and their developments allow us to analyze the non-linear and quasi-brittle fracture mechanisms. This paper presents a brief treatment of the fracture parameters. Additionally, three-point bending tests were conducted to compare J-integral($J_{Ic}$) with other parameters($K_{Ic},\;G_{Ic},\;and\;G_F$). The change in parameter values with respect to the width and notch length of concrete beam specimens was also considered. The load-displacement curves were used to measure the concrete fracture toughness experimentally. From the results of experiment, it was found that the value of $G_F\;and\;J_{Ic}$ decreased as the notch depth increased and that $G_F$ was less sensitive than $J_{Ic}$. Therefore, the former, $G_F$, is more appropriate in using it as the concrete fracture toughness parameter. The values of $G_F\;and\;J_{Ic}$ increased when the width of concrete specimens increasing from 75 mm to 150 mm. Thus, the effects of the specimen width should be considered in determining the fracture toughness of concrete.

  • This study was to measure formaldehyde emission and bonding strength of plywoods manufactured with urea-melamine formaldehyde adhesives, which were made from three different mixing ratios of urea and melamine, and with four different formaldehyde/urea-melamine molar ratios of 1.0,1.1,1.2 and 1.4. The results were as follows 1. Amount of formaldehyde emission was the lowest at the first method of molar ratio(F/(M+U)) 1.0. Amounts of formaldehyde emission of experimental manufactured adhesives were lower than that of commercial adhesive. 2. Bonding strength of dry specimen was the highest at the first method of molar ratio(F/(M+U)) 1.4. Dry bonding strength of molar ratio(F/(M+U)) 1.4 was similar to commercial adhesive. 3. Bonding strength of wet specimen was the highest at the second method of molar ratio(F/(M+U)) 1.4. Bonding strength of wet specimen used by the third method of molar ratio(F/(M+U)) 1.4 was almost equal to commercial adhesive.
