  • It was described in "Somun Jogyeongron" that Eum(Yin)-Yang' deficiency, excess and exuberance. According to "Somun Jogyeongron", It was known that the syndrome of Yang deficiency and exuberance is belong to external contraction, Eum deficiency and exuberance is belong to internal damage. The syndrome of Yang deficiency is belong to Gyejitang[contraction of wind] which constitutional weakness as the main etiological factor of deficiency conditions. The syndrome of Yang exuberance is belong to Mahwangtang[cold damage] which constitutional strong as the main etiological factor of exuberance conditions. Eum deficiency is so dysfunction of the spleen and stomach that Eum fluid and essence is not engender, distributed. So the dysfunction of spleen and stomach makes dampness-heat obstruction and then makes Internal heat at last. The syndrome of Eum deficiency is applicable to bojungikgitang. As contrasted with Eum deficiency, Eum exuberance is occurred cold-dampness obstruction, which we call 'Eum exuberance'. The syndrome of Yang exuberance is applicable to Ijungtang. In the light of "Somun Jogyongron", We explain that the syndrome of Yin deficiency and Yin exuberance, which was caused by dampness-heat, cold-dampness obstruction and internal damage based on disorder of the spleen and stomach.

  • The methods of checking the exuberance of yang (潛陽法) are a kind of medical treatments which cure various symtoms caused by hyperactivity of liver-yang, at the same time used for treating apoplexy. Thus, I investigated the application of checking the exuberance of yang to treat stroke. The conclusions are as follows. We can find application of checking the exuberance of yang to apoplexy on Synopsis of the Gold Chamber. After Ye Gui who persisted the theory of endogenous wind, many physicians applied the method of checking the exuberance of yang and this method has usually applied with nourishing yin. The methods of checking the exuberance of yang are concretely applied as follows. 1) a portion of apoplexy involving the channels and collaterals, which is caused by deficiency of yin and wind-fire pathogen. 2) excessive-syndrome of coma accompanied by heat syndrome. 3) epilepsy caused old apoplexy. The majority of shells for example abalone shell, hawksbill shell, oyster shell, tortoise-shell etc. are the most frequent use of herbal drug which check the exuberance of yang. The precriptions of checking the exuberance of yang are Ho-jam-hwan(虎潛丸), Ko-bon-dan(固本丹), Cheon-ma-gu-deung-eum(天麻鉤藤飮), Chin-gan-sik-pung-tang(鎭肝熄風湯) etc.

  • The objective of this study is to find out a reason why prescriptions have different effects on each patient who has same symptoms or same abdominal examinations and further more to classify the formulas more efficiently. In applying 's prescriptions, it is known that conventional ways such as treatment in accordance with symptoms or abdominal examinations have many advantages and problems reversely. To make up for the problems, additional references like strength of constitutional resistance and location of disease, degree of income and outgo are designed. And the notion in Oriental Medicine embracing aspects mentioned above corresponds to triple energizer. Triple energizer's exuberance-debilitation is able to draw an inference from some factors like density of skin interstices, elasticity of abdomen, appetite, digestive power. According to Exuberance-Debilitation of Triple Energizer, can be divided into five steps: weak(弱)-moderately weak(中弱)-neither weak nor strong(中)-moderately strong(中强)-strong(强). prescriptions would be dealt with those 5 steps, and it would be highly effective and consequently side effects could be reduced. On the basis of this classification method upon formula group, the prescriptions of can be applied more accurately by setting a direction through strength of constitutional resistance and location of disease and combining with existing references like symptoms, palpation and abdominal examinations.

  • Lee Jae Won is a scholar who wrote the most in Euirim, a representative Oriental Medical magazine after the liberation of Korea, on the Sa-am Acupuncture Method. In order to understand the principles of this method, he proposed rather distinctive theories called the Comparative Pulse Diagnosis and the Five Constitutions. Lee Jae Won distinguished the deficiency and exuberance of the Five Phases through the Comparative Pulse Diagnosis, and set harmonizing the Five Phases by tonifying the deficient and purging the exuberant as the object of the Sa-am Acupuncture Method. He took pulses from both the patient's hands and distinguished the deficiency and exuberance of the five viscera. Then, he balanced the Five Phases by tonifying the weakest viscus and purging the strongest viscus. Lee Jae Won argued that because the Five Constitutions are something that one has innately, people suffer from differnet diseases according to their constitutions. Therefore, he argued, when treating a patient, one should first decide the constitution of the patient and then treat the patient according to his/her deficiency or exuberance. From the late 50's to early 60's, Lee Jae Won wrote Acupuncture and Moxibustion According to Yin-Yang and the Five Phases, explaining the principles of the Sa-am Acupuncture Method and its applications. Seen from this, Lee Jae Won is a person from whom we can confirm the historical lineage of the Sa-am Acupuncture Method after the liberation of Korea.

  • This study was carried out to understand the general conditions about management of hypertension and the differences in opinions between the Eastern-Western Nursing Sciences. In this context, this study was aimed to find out a possible integration of the Eastern-Western Nursing Sciences for the management of hypertension and to suggest a distinct frame of Korean nursing intervention method which is unique for the hypertensive patients by combining two hypertensive management systems originated from the Western type, "mainly classified by stage", and the Eastern type, "typically classified by form" as they are identified in the literature. From the research literature including both domestic and foreign, this study identified that exuberance of Yang of the Liver form mainly appeared to the patient who is at a border hypertension or the first stage of hypertension, Deficiency of Yin of the Liver and Kidneys form mostly appeared to the first stage and the second stage of Hypertension and Deficiency of the both of Yin and Yang form appeared to the third stage of Hypertension. These unifications of the types of Hypertension classified by stages and forms suggest the possibility not only of integration of the Eastern-western Medicine but also of establishment for the intervention of specific nursing management which is the united Eastern-western Nursing Science for the Hypertension. Hence, the new frame for the nursing management of Hypertensive patient is suggested as follows : 1) In case of the exuberance of Yang of the Liver form, as classified by form which is categorized to the border Hypertension or the first stage of Hypertension, nursing intervention should include general therapy, cooking meal and neutral care to restrain the condition of the exuberance of Yang of the liver. 2) In case of the deficiency of Yin of the liver and the Kidneys form, as classified by form which is categorized to the second stage of Hypertension, nursing intervention should include both the general and drug therapy and their use in combination with cooking meal and neural care to restrain the condition of the deficiency of Yin of the Li ver and Kidneys. 3) In case of the deficiency of both of Yin and Yang form, as classified by form which is categorized to he third stage of Hypertension should include both the general therapy and drug therapy and their use in combination with cooking meal and neural care to restrain the condition of deficiency of the both of Yin and Yang. In addition, using this basic frame of Hypertensive management, a specific way of nursing intervention, which is suitable for exuberance of Yang of the Liver form, deficiency of Yin of the Liver and Kidneys form, and deficiency of both of the Yin and Yang form and classified by Korean herbal medicine related to hypertension, should be pursued continuously in the future.

  • Background : Yang-do-rack is frequently used in diagnosing syndromes in oriental medical hospital, but there has been few clinical report on Yang-do-rack. So we intended to find out the relationship among Yang-do-rack, general characteristics and the differentiaion of syndromes in acute stroke patients. Materials and Methods : In this study we selected the subjects who were hospitalized from March 1, 1998 to July 31. 1998 at the department of circulatory internal medicine at college of oriental medicine, in Kyung-Hee University, diagnosed acute cerebral infarction or hemorrhage within 7 days after onset time. We checked Yang-do-rack scores with Autonomic Nervous System YORAK (Sord Medicom co. Ltd, Korea) and calculated the scores of each diffentiation of syndroms. Resuts : 1. In left leg meridian, there was more numerical value male than female on LF1, LF2, LF4, LF6. The value of LF1, LF3, LF4, LF5 was getting lower as the score of heat-transformation syndrom(火熱證) increased. 2. In left arm meridian, there was more numerical value male than female on LH2, LH5. The value of LH1, LH3, LH5 was getting lower as the score of exuberance of Yang due to deficiency of Yin syndrom(陰虛陽亢證) increased. 3. In right leg meridian, there was more numerical value male than female on RF1, RF2, RF4, RF6. The value of RF3, RF5 was getting lower as the score of heat-transformation syndrom(火熱證) increased and RF4 as the score of exuberance of Yang due to deficiency of Yin syndrom(陰虛陽亢證) increased. 4. In right arm meridian, the value of RH1 was getting lower as the score of exuberance of Yang due to deficiency of Yin syndrom(陰虛陽亢證) increased. These results show that the Yang-do-rack diagnosis could offer supplemental help for diffrentiation of syndroms in acute stroke patient.

  • This is the study on causes and remedies of hearing disturbance in chinese medical journals(1991-1993). The results were as follows. 1. The causes of sudden deafness(突發性耳聾) were usually fire in the liver(肝火).phlegmatic fire(痰火), deficiency of the vital function and essence of the kidney(腎虛), blood stasis or sludge due to stagnation of vital energy stagnation(氣滯血瘀). Remove endogenous heat or fire method(淸瀉火熱法). circulation of phlegm and dampness(運化痰濕). using tonics to cure disease due to deficiency of vital essence of both the liver and the kidney(滋補肝腎) were used for each treatment. 2.The causes of menieres disease were usually mental disturbance due to phlegmatit fire(痰化上搖). dampness-phlegm long standing(痰濕內停), water-dampness retention(水濕停滯), Method of remove heat and circulation phlegm(淸熱化痰法), method of remove water and dampness(利水渗濕法), invigorate function of the spleen and circulation of dampness method(健脾化濕法) were used for each treatment. 3. The causes of toxico-deafness(中毒性 耳聾) were usually heart, liver and kidney functional weakness(心肝腎虛), vital essence and blood weakness(氣血虛弱). Remove obstruction in the flow and circulation phlegm(通窮化痰), reinforce vital energy and tonify blood (補氣活血), using tonics to cure disease due to deficiency of vital essence of both the liver and the kidney(滋補肝腎) were used for each treatment. 4. The causes of deafness (耳聾), tinitus(耳鳴) were usually mental disturbance due to wind and heat(風熱上搖). flaming up of excessive heat of the liver(肝火上亢). exhaustion seat of reproductive essence in kidney(腎精虧虛). Remove endogenous heat and disperse wind(淸熱疏風). remove the fire of liver(淸肝瀉火), through nourish kidney check exuberance of yang(滋腎潛陽), nourish kidney yang(補腎陽). replenish vital energy and improve essential substance(益精血), blood activate for treatment of blood stasis(活血化瘀) were used for each treatment. 5. The effects of mainly used drugs were classified into method of water and dampness remove medicine(利水渗濕藥), nourishing liver and kidney medicine(補肝腎藥), improve blood and vital energy activate medicine(活血行氣藥), through nourish yan medicine check exuberance of yang(滋陰潛陽藥).

  • In order to research the pathological entity of Jueyin disease in ${\ll}Shanghanlun{\gg}$, some sharing concept of three-yin-three-yang used in ${\ll}Neijing{\gg}$ and ${\ll}Shanghanlun{\gg}$ were investigated first, and then the meaning of jueyin and jueyin disease were analyzed. In cold damage disease, time-space factor is important because the pathological change is rapid and the symptoms along path are similar, therefore three-yin-three-yang having complex meaning of time and space can be used as an appropriate pathological concept. So to speak, it is able to be interpreted as various modes like variations of yin-yang, qi-blood, change of pulse condition, theories of opening, closing, pivot or exuberance and debilitation of form and qi manifested in the six districts of the human body following disease process. Jueyin is between front taiyin and rear shaoyin, and it's attribution is inherent in qi stagnation and yin exuberance in relative to the location of flank and liver. Putting together above descriptions, pathological entity of jueyin disease is that the symptoms mingled with cold and stagnant heat competing each other when a subject having qi stagnation in flank with cold in extremities and lower abdomen in particular is seized with cold influenza.

  • The SangHanIlJeGeum(傷寒-提金) explain the six channel of disease. The Greater Yang controls the construction and defence, and governs the exterior of the body, which serves as the body's external barrier. Accordingly, many of the signs associated with greater yang appear in the early stages of disease. The essential features of greater yang disease are a pulse that is floating, headache, stiffness and pain of the head and nape, heateffusion, and aversion to cold. The main feature of Yang brightness disease is yang hyperactivity and heat exuberance. An evil can directly enter the yang brightness channel from the exterior, but it usually passes into the channel from the greater yang. Yang brightness disease is generally characterized by generalized heat effusion, spontaneous sweating, aversion not to cold but to heat, and a pulse that is large. Distinction is made between a heat patter and a repletion pattern.
