In the case of a AIGalnP/GaP system rectangular parallelepiped high brightness LED which has side walls etched to be slanted off the vertical direction, we have studied the effects of lossy electrodes and material absorption and etching depth and angle of side walls on its light extraction efficiency. If LEDs have no electrodes, in order to obtain an 80% light extraction efficiency of a TIP (truncated inverted pyramid) LED, the side-etched LEDs should have an etching angle of 22$^{\circ}$~45$^{\circ}$ and an etching depth of 8~17% of a dice height and an absorption coefficient less than 1 $cm^{-1}$ / In case of etching depth of 16~39% of a dice height, we can obtain a 90% light extraction efficiency of a TIP LED. But when LEDs have two electrodes and no absorption loss, in order to obtain an 80% light extraction efficiency of a TIP LEBs, the side-etched LEDs should have an etching angle of 25$^{\circ}$-45$^{\circ}$ and an etching depth of 30~36% of a dice height. In case of etching depth of 57~71% of a dice height, we can obtain a 90% light extraction efficiency of a TIP LED.

Rubiadin, a major compound of noni ($Morinda$$citrifolia$) adventitious root, is highly valued in pharmaceutical industry due to hepatoprotective activity. To dissect rubiadin's effective extraction condition, extraction process of noni adventitious roots was performed with different solvent types, ratio of water to methanol (water, 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100% of methanol), extraction time, and extraction method. In contrast, we also developed a reverse- phase HPLC assay method to determine rubiadin from noni adventitious roots. The HPLC assay of rubiadin was performed by C-18 column using a gradient solvent system of methanol and water with UV detector at 280 nm. The extraction efficiency of different types of solvents were increased in order of methanol (0.08%) > ethanol (0.05%) > acetonitrile (0.03%) > acetone (0.02%) and methylene chloride (0.02%). The results of rubiadin extraction using different solvents showed that 1 hour of ultrasonic extraction was effective in order of 60% methanol (0.21%) > 80% methanol (0.13%) > 100% methanol (0.07%), 40% methanol (0.07%) and 2 hours of reflux extraction was effective in order of 60% methanol (0.21%) > 40% methanol (0.17%) > 80% methanol (0.14%). To compare the extraction efficiency of rubiadin according to the extraction methods and time for high rubiadin content, the extracts of rubiadin in noni adventitious roots were isolated with the methods of ultrasonic extraction, shaking extraction and reflux extraction. Rubiadin extracted from the methods of ultrasonic waves and shaking displayed the highest contents at 8 and 24 hours, respectively.
Objectives : To evaluate the extraction efficiency of water decoction with or without non-woven fabric underlying comparison of the HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography) profiles of the hesperidin which is the standard of Citri Pericarpium. Methods : Pyungwisan, which is comprised of Atractylodis Rhizoma, Magnoliae Cortex, Citri Pericarpium, Glycyrrhizae Radix, Zingiberis Rhizoma, and Ziziphy Fructus, was extracted in boiling water with non-woven fabric or without non-woven fabric. Then hesperidin content was analyzed by HPLC. Results : The contents of hesperidin in the water extract of Pyungwisan which was decocted without non-woven fabric showed $219.57{\pm}2.51\;mg/g$ and $138.90{\pm}6.32\;mg/g$ in with non-woven fabric decoction. Conclusions : These results suggest that herbal decoction without non-woven fabric might increase extraction efficiency.

We have investigated the light extraction efficiency of large-area OLED lighting panels with a microlens array (MLA) or external scattering layer (ESL) by ray tracing simulation. The application of MLA and ESL to transparent OLEDs (TOLEDs) with an auxiliary metal electrode is also studied. It is found that MLA shows higher light extraction efficiency, compared with ESL. However, we have demonstrated that ESL is more suitable for TOLEDs having dual-sided equal light emission. Namely, equal light emission from the front and rear surfaces of TOLED can be achieved by increasing the scattering particle density of ESL. To compensate for a loss in light emission induced by auxiliary metal electrode, we come out with an OLED structure partially covered with MLA at the outer surface of glass substrate, which is aligned with metal electrode. With this scheme, it is observed that the light extraction efficiency can be boosted more than 20% from opaque OLED and 50% from transparent OLED.

Since the organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have been widely investigated as next-generation displays, it has been successfully commercialized as a flexible and rollable display. However, there is still wide room and demand to improve the device characteristics such as power efficiency and lifetime. To solve this issue, there has been a wide research effort, and among them, the internal and the external light extraction techniques have been attracted in this research field by its fascinating characteristic of material independence. In this study, a micro-nano composite structured external light extraction layer was demonstrated. A reactive ion etching (RIE) process was performed on the surfaces of hexagonally packed hemisphere micro-lens array (MLA) and randomly distributed sphere diffusing films to form micro-nano composite structures. Random nanostructures of different sizes were fabricated by controlling the processing time of the O2 / CHF3 plasma. The fabricated device using a micro-nano composite external light extraction layer showed 1.38X improved external quantum efficiency compared to the reference device. The results prove that the external light extraction efficiency is improved by applying the micro-nano composite structure on conventional MLA fabricated through a simple process.
This study was conducted to develop a functional feed additive for pig with spent $Lycium$$chinense$ Mill fruit. We investigated the optimum conditions for the extraction of polyphenol from spent $Lycium$$chinense$ Mill using methanol. Methanol concentration as a solvent for extraction, extraction time and the volume of solvent per a gram of solid (ground spent Lyceum chinense Mill) were selected as parameters. Three levels of parameters were configured according to Box Behnken experiment design, a fractional factorial design, and total 15 trials were employed. Total polyphenol concentration from each trial was used as response from experiment system and effects of parameters on total polyphenol extraction efficiency were determined using response surface model. As a result, all terms in analysis of variance, regression ($p$ = 0.001), linear ($p$ = 0.002), square ($p$ = 0.017) and interaction ($p$ = 0.047) was significant and adjusted determination coefficient ($R^2$) was 94.7%. Total polyphenol extraction efficiency was elevated along increased methanol content and decreased solvent to solid ratio. However extraction time did not affect the efficiency. This study provides a primary information for the optimum extraction conditions to maximize total polyphenol recovery from spent Lycium chinens Mill fruit and this result could be applied to re-use of argo-industrial by-products and to develop of functional feed additives in organic farming.

The solubility characteristics of organic compounds were studied in terms of the extraction efficiency as a function of the polarity of the organic solvent, and the acidity of water in urban aerosol samples collected in University of East Anglia (UEA), Norwich, England. The extraction efficiency of organic compounds were evaluated with respect to the organic carbon, -nitrogen and -hydrogen by means of a wide range of solvent which include polar and nonpolar organic solvents as well as acids and alkaline water. In addition, after being dissolved in aqueous solution, the aqueous chemistry of organic compounds were studied in terms of the organic metal complexes in aerosol, which were studied with oxalic acid, copper, and zinc. The results of this study indicate that solubility characteristics of organic compounds depend on the polarity of the solvents and the acidity of the solvents. In particular, some organic compounds are water soluble, even though they are much smaller than acetone soluble fractions. In the comparison between polar organic solvent extraction and non- polar organic solvent extraction, it can be thought that significant fraction of organic compounds analysed in the aerosol samples, are polar organic compounds because of the higher extraction efficiencies of organic compounds in polar organic solvent extraction than in nonpolar organic solvent extraction. Regarding the study of the oxalic -metal complexes, it can be thought that most oxalic acids are present in the form of oxalic -copper complexes in the aerosols collected at UEA.

We demonstrate the blue InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with an embedded air-gap photonic crystal (PC) which was fabricated by the lateral epitaxial overgrowth of GaN layer on the tungsten (W) nano-masks. The periodic air-gap PC was formed by the chemical reaction of hydrogen with GaN on the W nano-mask. The optical output power of LEDs with an air-gap PC was increased by 26% compared to LEDs without an air-gap PC. The enhanced optical output power was attributed to the improvement in internal quantum efficiency and light extraction efficiency by the air-gap PC embedded in GaN layer.
The extraction efficiencies of panaxynol and panaxydol were optimal at 80$^{\circ}C$ with soxhlet method. The extraction efficiencies increased up to 45$^{\circ}C$ with shaking method. Amounts of panaxynol and panaxydol were determined by gas chromatography. Extracted quantities of panaxynol and panaxydol using the shaking method increased over a period of 14 hours. The efficiencies of panaxynol and panaxydol extraction by soxhlet and shaking methods were higher for smaller particle sizes. Upon water swelling treatment, extraction efficiencies of panaxynol and panaxydol decreased gradually with time for both methods.

Simultaneous determination of three corticosteroids (clobetasol propionate, betamethasone dipropionate, fluticasone propionate) in moisturizers was performed by using liquid chromatography (LC) coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). Sample preparation was conducted by the liquid-liquid extraction (LLE). Moisturizers include emulsifying agent and it forms micelles. In order to improve the extraction efficiency of corticosteroids trapped in micelle, newly developed-optimized extraction conditions which can remove the matrix effect from moisturizers was applied with various pH conditions in LLE extraction stage of sample preparation. Thus, the addition of 10 μL of 1 M HCl into moisturizers sample before extraction could improve the extraction efficiency. For the quantitative analysis, SRM table that contained specific transition of all of target corticosteroids was created. The developed method was validated for linearity, accuracy, precision, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantization (LOQ) and recovery. Over the 0.99 r2 value was obtained in calibration standard range. Effective accuracy and precision were also obtained. LODs were below 31 ng/mL and LOQs were estimated below 94 ng/mL for all corticosteroids tested.
