  • This paper presents a new morphological spatio-temporal segmentation algorithm. The algorithm incorporates luminance and motion information simultaneously, and uses morphological tools such as morphological filtersand watershed algorithm. The procedure toward complete segmentation consists of three steps:joint marker extraction, boundary decision, and motion-based region fusion. First, the joint marker extraction identifies the presence of homogeneours regions in both motion and luminance, where a simple joint marker extraction technique is proposed. Second, the spatio-temporal boundaries are decided by the watershed algorithm. For this purposek, a new joint similarity measure is proposed. Finally, an elimination ofredundant regions is done using motion-based region function. By incorporating spatial and temporal information simultaneously, we can obtain visually meaningful segmentation results. Simulation results demonstratesthe efficiency of the proposed method.

  • In this work, we are interested in the extraction of areas of interest from satellite images by introducing a MO-TRIBES/OC-SVM approach. The One-Class Support Vector Machine (OC-SVM) is based on the estimation of a support that includes training data. It identifies areas of interest without including other classes from the scene. We propose generating optimal training data using the Multi-Objective TRIBES (MO-TRIBES) to improve the performances of the OC-SVM. The MO-TRIBES is a parameter-free optimization technique that manages the search space in tribes composed of agents. It makes different behavioral and structural adaptations to minimize the false positive and false negative rates of the OC-SVM. We have applied our proposed approach for the extraction of earthquakes and urban areas. The experimental results and comparisons with different state-of-the-art classifiers confirm the efficiency and the robustness of the proposed approach.

  • Competitive solvent extraction of alkaline earth metal cations from water into organic solvent containing the carboxylic acid crown ether and analogous crown ether phosphonic acid monoethyl esters were investigated. sym-(n-Decyldibenzo)-16-crown-5xyacetic acid $\underline{1}$ and monoethyl sym-(n-decyldibenzo)-16-crown-5-oxymethylphosphonic acid $\underline{3}$ are structurally identical except for the ionizable groups. Both of them provide similar extraction behavior in terms of efficiency and selectivity, but monoethyl sym-(n-decyldibenzo)-16-crown-5-oxymethylphosphonic acid $\underline{3}$ showed higher alkaline earth metals loadings at acidic or neutral media. Monoethylsym-(n-octyldibenzo)-16-rown-5-oxymethylphosphonic acid $\underline{2}$ showed better selectivity and alkaline earth metals loading than did the analogous sym-(n-octyldibenzo)-16-crown-5-oxymethyldiphosphonic acid $\underline{6}$.

  • In this paper, we present a technique to extract the title areas from book cover images. A typical book cover image may contain text, pictures, diagrams as well as complex and irregular background. In addition, the high variability of character features such as thickness, font, position, background and tilt of the text also makes the text extraction task more complicated. Therefore, we propose a two steps efficient method that uses Histogram of Oriented Gradients and color information to find the title areas. Firstly, text localization is carried out to find the title candidates. Finally, refinement process is performed to find the sufficient components of title areas. To obtain the best result, we also use other constraints about the size, ratio between the length and width of the title. We achieve encouraging results of extracted title regions from book cover images which prove the advantages and efficiency of the proposed method.

  • To use the GaN based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as solid state lighting sources, the improvement of light extraction and internal quantum efficiency is essential factors for high brightness LEDs. In this study, we suggested the new materials system of a zinc tin oxide (ZTO) layer formed on blue LED epi-structures to improve the light extraction. ZTO is a representative n-type oxide material consisted of ZnO and SnO system. Moreover, ZTO is one of the promising oxide semiconductor material. Even though ZTO has higher chemical stability than IGZO owing to its SnO2 content this has high mobility and high reliability. After formation of ZTO layer on p-GaN layer by using the spin coating method, structural and optical properties are investigated. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement results show the successful formation of ZTO. The photoluminescence (PL) and absorption spectrum shows that it has 3.6-4.1eV band gap. Finally, the light extraction properties of ZTO/LED chip using electroluminescence (EL) measurement were investigated. The experimental and theoretical analyses were simultaneously conducted.

  • Organic pollutants (Phenol, 2-Chlorophenol, Nitrobenzene) were separated from wastewater by nondispersive membrane solvent extraction, using a microporous hydrophobic hollow fiber module. The system was operated countercurrently and cocurrently with the aqueous phase flowing through the fiber lumens and the solvent flowing through the shell side. The distribution coefficients of several solvents (MIBK, IPAc, Hexane) were examined and MIBK was selected as an extracting solvent. Separation efficiency of countercurrent flow method was better than that of cocurrent flow method. Also, the overall mass transfer coefficients were determined.

  • To improve industrial scale extraction method for extraction of icariin from Epimedium koreanum Nakai, the yields under different extracting conditions such as solvent, temperature, duration and solvent to plant material weight ratio were compared. Regarding extracting solution, highest extracts and icariin yield could be achieved when 10% EtOH was used. In case of plant material to extracting solvent ratio, no significant differences could be observed from 1/10 to 1/50, indicating 1/10 was the most efficient. Extracting temperature significantly affected extracts and icariin yields in that 9$0^{\circ}C$ increased the collected extracts and icariin contents up to 29.6% and 0.76%, respectively, compared to 27.2%, 0.33% at 7$0^{\circ}C$. The yield of extracts was less dependent upon extracting temperature compared to icariin yield. Regarding extraction time, 4 hr and 6 hr resulted in high extracts and icariin yield, respectively. We found extracting Epimedium koreanum Nakai in 10 times volume of 10% EtOH for 4 and 6 hr at 9$0^{\circ}C$ seem to be relatively efficient methods for extracts and icariin, respectively.

  • Currently most Internet documents including data are made based on predefined templates, but templates are usually formed only for main data and are not helpful for information retrieval against indexes, advertisements, header data etc. Templates in such forms are not appropriate when Internet documents are used as data for information retrieval. In order to process Internet documents in various areas of information retrieval, it is necessary to detect additional information such as advertisements and page indexes. Thus this study proposes a method of detecting the layout of Web pages by identifying the characteristics and structure of block tags that affect the layout of Web pages and calculating distances between Web pages. This method is purposed to reduce the cost of Web document automatic processing and improve processing efficiency by providing information about the structure of Web pages using templates through applying the method to information retrieval such as data extraction.

  • Organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices have attracted attention due to their high efficiency and simple manufacturing process. Applying an overlayer to OPV devices is one way to improve their performance because it can improve charge extraction and suppress vertical phase separation. In addition, dichloromethane (DCM) was used as an orthogonal solvent to minimize the effect on other layers. However, an coating problems due to the use of DCM were found, which affects surface morphology as rough or peeling. Additional research efforts are needed to solve these problems, and optimal results are expected to be obtained by utilizing various buffer layers or selective organic solvents.

  • Microwave-assisted extraction, which is known to rapidly extract target compounds from natural products, was monitored by response surface methodology (RSM) while extracting ginsenosides by using microwave extraction system (MES) equipped with closed vessels, and was confirmed on its extraction efficiency. On the whole, coefficients of determinations $(R^2)$ of the models on ginsenoside contents of extracts with various extraction conditions were above 0.83 (p<0.1). $Ginsenoside-Rb_2,\;-Rc,\;-Re\;and\;-Rg_1$ were maximized in $140^{\circ}C$ of extraction temperature and $50\~75\%$ range of ethanol concentration. Unknown compound peak on HPLC chromatogram observed at extraction temperature over $120^{\circ}C$, increased at the extraction temperature of $150^{\circ}C$. The extraction temperature of $ginsenoside-Rb_2$ and -Re increased from $129^{\circ}C\;to\;147^{\circ}C$ with including unknown compound, and $R^2$ of the models on ginsenoside contents of extracts increased with including unknown compound into ginsenoside $Rb_2$ and Re. Contents of unknown compound were minimized in $67.33\%$ of ethanol concentration, $99.34^{\circ}C$ of extraction temperature and 3.65 min of extraction time. Ginsenoside contents extracted by microwave system for 8 min showed a similar tendency to those of the current extraction method for 40 hrs.
