The purpose of this study was to investigate the pretreatment and posttreatment dentofacial characteristics of non-extraction patients with Class I malocclusion. And to compare this result with matched non-orthodontic normal occlusion and Class I premolar extraction patients. Such comparison might help identify morphologic characteristics of the non-extraction patients. Initial and final cephalometric evaluation were compared in a sample of 22 patients with Class I malocclusions treated in non-extraction manner with edgewise appliance and MEAW The mean age of the total population was 14 years 9 months and the average treatment time was 2 years 8 months. 32 landmarks were located and digitized on each cephalogram. From these landmarks, 24 linear and angular dimension were obtained. Student's t-test were used to compare the pretreatment - posttreatment results, Nonextraction - Normal groups, and nonextraction Extraction groups. Significance was predetermined at $p{\leq}0.05$. The results were as follows. 1. Before treatment, the mean value of the $ODI\;was\;69.9^{\circ},\;APDI\;was\;82.1^{\circ},\;CF\;was\;152^{\circ},\;EI\;was\;152^{\circ}$ in the non-extraction groups. 2. The skeletal pattern of the non-extraction groups were similar with non-orthodontic normal groupsr, but the non-extraction groups had larger interincisal angle. 3. Comparison between groups treated with and without extraction indicated at pretreatment, the extraction groups had more protrusive lips, smaller interincisal angle, and EI. 4. After treatment, there was no significant changes in the skeletal pattern of the non-extraction groups, but uprighting of the maxillary and mandibular first molar and decrease of the interincisal angle were seen.

Newly bleaching sequence using oxygen, ozone and hydrogen peroxide has introduced to avoid pollution hazards from chlorinated organic compounds, because chlorine dioxide substitution bleaching was produced a little chlorinated organic substance. Oxygen-type chemicals replaced for chlorine has attracted much research attention. Bleachability of ozone was improved at low temperature and high pulp consistency. In third bleaching followed OZ bleaching, addition of O2 and NaBH4 in alkali extraction was effective than only alkali extraction. Bleachability of pulps in ozone bleaching(Z) was improved at higher consistency and lower temperature The addition O2 and NaBH4 in alkali extraction after OZ bleaching sequence improved brightness, when compared to those obtained by only alkaline extraction. Pulps bleached by ECF bleaching sequences such as OZEoD and OZEopD was obtained by 90% ISO brightness. The brightness of pulp bleached by TCF sequences with the ozone dosage of 1.6% was approached to target brightness (88~90%ISO). Pulps bleached Z stage combined bleaching sequence was reduced the viscosity to a little greater extent. However, physical properties of pulps was not great different compared to those bleached by conventional bleaching sequences. A pollution index of bleaching effluente by ozone combined bleaching sequences was lower than by conventional bleaching sequence, but somewhat higher than multistage bleaching sequences combined C/D stage.
Retrostpective study of two groups of patients was conducted to evaluate the physiologic drift of the mandibular teeth following the extraction of four first premolars. The concept of physiologic drift, commonly referred to as 'driftodontics', following first premolar extractions has been gaining acceptance in the orthodontic community, the exact nature and amount of drift has not been adequately documented. There were also no guide lines as to when drift should be allowed to now. The purpose of this study was to quantify physiologic drift of the untreated mandibular dentition following extraction of the four first premolars during the early permanent and late permanent dentition stages. The early permanent dentition extraction sample(Group 1) included 26 Patients and the mean age at pretreatment was approximately 13.5 years. The observation period following extraction was approximately 6.96 months. The late permanent dentition extraction sample(Group 2) included 31 patients. The mean age at pretreatment was 21.3 years, followed by a observation period of 7.26 months. During the observation period, except for the extractions, no other mandibular therapy was rendered. Pre-and post-treatment lateral cephalograms and dental casts were analyzed. The obtained results were as follows 1. Group 2 showed marked changes in movements of the mandibular incisors and canines but minimal changes in molars. 2. The amount of changes in movements of the mandibular incisors and canines were significantly greater in Group 1 than in Group 2. The results showed no differences in rates of molar movements between groups. 3. Physiologic drift of the dentition produced desirable changes such as decreased Incisor Irregularity.

Volatile flavor components of Codonopsis lanceolata were extracted by gas co-distillation (GCD), solvent extraction/fractionation (SEF), and headspace sampling (HSS) methods. The extracts were analyzed by dual-capillary gas chromatography-retention index (GC-RI) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS). The two extracts prepared by SEF and HSS gave more similar fragrance to the Codonopsis lanceolata than the GCD extract. The GC profiles of the SEF and HSS extracts were similar to each other except for differences in peak areas. The extract prepared by SEF gave a sweet note while the extract prepared by HSS gave a green note. The GCD extract began to give a burnt note of herb medicine with prolonged distillation. Rapid extraction of flavor components from Codonopsis lanceolata was possible in several short steps by SEF and HSS methods compared to GCD. GC-MS and GC-RI were used for peak identification. GC-RI was more effective for identification of isomers, and polar FFAP column was more suitable for identification of polar compounds. From Codonopsis lanceolata we identified 35 volatile flavor constituents, 24 of which have not been previously reported by simultaneous distillation extraction method $^{(5)}$. trans-2-Hexanal, cis-3-hexen-1-ol, trans-2-hexen-1-ol, and hexanol were considered key components of the green note and 1-octen-3-ol, the component of the fresh note. Esters, including amyl propionate, seem to be responsible for the sweet note particular to Codonopsis lanceolata.

Objectives: Patients undergoing oral surgery exhibit high anxiety, which may elevate their cortisol levels and affect postoperative recovery. Overweight patients are often encountered in the dental clinic due to the increasing prevalence of overweight. We aimed to investigate the relationships between preoperatively assessed body mass index (BMI), serum cortisol and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels, and visual analog scale (VAS) scores and preoperative anxiety in patients undergoing mandibular third molar (MM3) extraction and to identify predictors of postoperative complications. Patients and Methods: We analyzed 43 patients (age, 20-42 years) undergoing MM3 extraction. At the first visit, patients completed the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) and Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) questionnaires. Their BMI and VAS scores were also calculated. The participants underwent blood tests 1 hour before MM3 extraction. On the first postoperative day, the participants' VAS scores and serum hs-CRP levels were reevaluated. Results: We found that BMI was significantly correlated with preoperative VAS scores. Further, BMI and preoperative hs-CRP levels were significantly correlated among women and patients undergoing extractions of fully impacted MM3s. No correlations were found between serum cortisol and other variables. The preoperative MDAS and VAS scores were significantly positively correlated, especially among patients undergoing extractions of fully impacted MM3s. Multiple linear regression showed that BMI and the eruption status of the MM3 were significant predictors of postoperative hsCRP levels and VAS scores, respectively. Conclusion: In MM3 removals, patients with higher BMI showed elevated hs-CRP and higher VAS scores before surgery. Patients with higher anxiety among those undergoing extractions of fully impacted MM3s showed higher preoperative VAS scores. The two main predictors of postoperative complications were BMI and MM3 eruption status.

A tongue coating evaluation method for WTCI(Winkel Tongue Coating Index) is proposed in this paper, which is used as the diagnostic criteria in the tongue diagnosis. This method uses the color channel analysis and tongue coating extraction from the ultraviolet tongue image. Proposed method analyzes the histogram distribution of the respective color channel for extracting a tongue coating, and performs the verification test from the selected color channel in the tongue coating extraction. Also, Objectivity of the tongue diagnostic criteria is verified by the artificial sample and real-tongue image experiments. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed Computerized Assistant WTCI Evaluation method, after verifying a measurement accuracy by using the artificial sample images, and applying to the various real-tongue image of subjects. As a result, the proposed WTCI method is very successful.
Drying process was applied to increase the antioxidant activity of onion powder: freeze-drying or air-drying at 50, 70, and $90^{\circ}C$ and onion extracts were obtained from each powder using water or aqueous ethanol (50%) at $25^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$. In the color analysis, the freeze-dried powders showed higher $L^*$ and lower $a^*$ and $b^*$ values than did the air-dried ones. The browning index of powders air-dried at $90^{\circ}C$ was significantly higher than that of freeze-dried powders or those air-dried at temperatures below $90^{\circ}C$. Phenolic content in the extracts was 4.02-23.12 mg gallic acid equivalent/g sample, and was the highest in the extract from the sample air-dried at $90^{\circ}C$, regardless of the extraction condition. The highest antioxidant activity, measured by 2,2-azinobis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl methods, was found in the powder air-dried at $90^{\circ}C$, which induced browning. These findings indicate that antioxidant activity depends more on browning during drying than on extraction conditions.
A fast and simple sampling and sample preparation device, (NTD) has been developed and applied to sample and analyze volatile components from ground coffee beans. Coffee fragrances and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were sampled by the NTD and then analyzed by gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Divinylbenzene (DVB) particles (80/100 mesh size) were the sorbent bed of the NTD. More than 150 volatile components were first identified based on the database of the mass library and then finally 30 fragrances including caffeine were further confirmed by comparing experimental retention indices (i.e. Kovat index) with literature retention indices. Total sampling time was 10 minutes and no extra solvent extraction and/or reconstitution step need. Straight n-alkanes (C6-C20) were used as retention index probes for the calculation of experimental retention indices. In addition, this report suggests that an empty needle can be an alternative platform for analyzing polymers by pyrolysis-GC/MS.

In this paper , we propose a texture feature extraction method of reduce the massive computational time on extracting texture, features of large sized medical such as MRI, CT-scan , and an index structure, called GLTFT, to speed up the retrieval performance. For these, the original image is transformed into a compressed image by Wavelet transform , and textural features such as contrast, energy, entropy, and homogeneity of the compressed image is extracted by using GLCM(Gray Level Co-occurrence Metrix) . The proposed index structure is organized by using the textural features. The processing in compressed domain can give the solution of storage space and the reduction of computational time of feature extracting . And , by GLTFT index structure, image retrieval performance can be expected to be improved by reducing the retrieval range . Our experiment on 270 MRIs as image database shows that shows that such expectation can be got.
