  • In railway, Tie supports rail and plays a role that distribute train load to the ballast. Also, Tie and ballast resist against external force and fix the track position. But, weakening resistance of ballast and tie cause vertical displacement of tie and track irregularity. For reinforcement of track stiffness and reduction of track irregularity, KORAIL has developed Multi Branch type tie(GLORY Tie) that reinforced resistance than general PCT and installed in order to test in the field. This study measured and analyzed lateral resistance of ballast, wheel load of rail, bending strain of rail foot, vertical displacement and vibration acceleration of tie in order to evaluate performance of Multi Branch type tie in the field. According to the results of test, Multi Branch tie is excellent than general tie about lateral resistance of ballast and vertical displacement of tie. And, gap of measurement value between Multi Branch type tie and general tie about wheel load of rail, bending strain of rail foot were very small.

  • In this paper, the structural behavior of R/C cylindrical panel is analyzed by experimental results. To avoid the geometric imperfection, R/C shell specimens are made by use of a stiff steel mold. From experimental results, the load carrying behavior of R/C cylindrical panel is presented under an external lateral pressure. Even if R/C shell does not posses geometric imperfections, the inaccuracy of the reinforcement position strongly affects to the ultimate strength and the failure patterns of such shells. To explain these effects, FEM nonlinear analyses are done under the same conditions as those of experiments. The behavior of R/C cylindrical shells are well simulated under the consideration of both the geometric imperfection and several inaccuracies.

  • In the nuclear power plant, steel or polymer liner plates are adopted to prohibit inner concrete surface contacting with gas or liquid materials. If there is an accident, the plate will be damaged, and concrete shall have final responsibility to safety requirements. In this paper, an experimental research was carried out to investigate the effects of construction joint and wet and loading condition on the permeability of concrete. The test results showed that leakage rate is decreased much more at the following cases than the others : (a)wet condition, (b)without a construction joint case, and (c)case subjected to external loads. It was noted that more reinforcement is required at the latter case.

  • This report is on the Reinforcing System(MFRI) for Concrete Structure using FRP ROD & High-Performance Mortar. The main characteristic of this system is as follow. First, the fiber rods in this system have seven times greater tensile strength than general reinforcing steel bars(re-bar) and the weight is a fifth lighter. Camels coated on the fiber rods' surfaces to improve adhesive strength and pull-out strength. Second, high strength shotcrete mortar is has very good workability and low rebound rate. After installing the Fiber Rods, Shotcrete mortar Is applied or sprayed to finish reinforcement. Finally, MFRI system has excellent fire-resisting performance and sogood tolerance against external environment by inserting fiber rods and reinforcing materials into mortar which has high compressive strength. It is applied to bridge slab, utility box and tunnel of civil engineering works, and beam and slab of building structures.

  • This paper reports the results of an experimental investigation of the polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) influence on the steel reinforcement corrosion and compressive strength of concretes in sulphate medium. The effect of admixture of PVP in concrete on the corrosion resistance of steel reinforced concrete was assessed by measuring electrochemical test during 60 days immersion in two different external solutions. AC impedance spectrum indicated that the resistance of PVP mixed electrodes were higher than those without PVP. The compressive strength of concrete specimens containing PVP was measured and an increase of 19%~24% was observed.

  • Many existing concrete structures suffer from low quality of concrete and inadequate confinement reinforcement. These deficiencies cause low strength and ductility. Wrapping concrete by carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite sheets enhances compressive strength and deformability. In this study, the effects of the thickness of the CFRP composite wraps on the behavior of concrete are investigated experimentally. Both monotonic and repeated compressive loads are considered during the tests, which are carried out on strengthened undamaged specimens, as well as the specimens, which were tested and damaged priorly and strengthened after repairing. The experimental data shows that, external confinement of concrete by CFRP composite sheets improves both compressive strength and deformability of concrete significantly as a function of the thickness of the CFRP composite wraps around concrete. Empirical equations are also proposed for compressive strength and ultimate axial deformation of FRP composite wrapped concrete. Test results available in the literature, as well as the experimental results presented in this paper, are compared with the analytical results predicted by the proposed equations.

  • The current study explores the soil-structure interaction (SSI) effect on the potential seismic damage of mid-rise non-seismically designed reinforced concrete frames retrofitted by Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP). An 8-storey reinforced concrete frame poorly-confined due to transverse reinforcement deficiency is selected and then retrofitted by FRP wraps to provide external confinement. The poorly-confined and FRP retrofitted frames with/without SSI are modelled using hysteretic nonlinear elements. Inelastic time history and damage analyses are performed for these frames subjected to different seismic intensities. The results show that the FRP confinement significantly reduces one or two damage levels for the poorly-confined frame. More importantly, the SSI effect is found to increase the potential seismic damage of the retrofitted frame, reducing the effectiveness of FRP retrofitting. This finding, which is contrary to the conventionally beneficial concept of SSI governing for decades in structural and earthquake engineering, is worth taking into account in designing and evaluating retrofitted structures.

  • This paper presents the results of investigation on the effects of surface loading on the performance of soil-reinforced segmental retaining walls using the finite element method of analysis. A parametric study was performed by varying location of surface loading. The results of the analyses indicate that the increment of the reinforcement tensile load due to the presence of surface load may be significantly over-estimated when using the conventional approach. Furthermore, the external stability should be carefully examined when a surface loading is present just outside the reinforced soil zone. The implications of the findings from this study to current design approaches are discussed in detail.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the efficiency of using threaded rods and steel profiles to produce a steel confining system for rehabilitation of damaged concrete corbels for the first time in literature. Some of the specimens were repaired by crack repair epoxy before being confined for further enhancement. A total of 19 two sided damaged corbels were used in the study with different mechanical properties and parameters but similar dimensions. The differences were in rehabilitation style, shear span, fiber percentage, reinforcement steel diameter, and concrete strength. The rehabilitated specimens were loaded with vertical load until failure. Four different configurations were used in the investigation. Test results show that the proposed rehabilitation technique is effective to enhance the load capacity of the corbels and to improve their ductility. Moreover, new formulations were proposed to calculate the load capacity of the rehabilitated corbels. A good fit was observed between numerical and experimental results.

  • The Korea food service industry, in its external shape, is growing explosively, along with the foreign brand's great influx. The domestic food service industry is loosing the competition against the foreign due to its poor development in human resources, marketing techniques and the menu. To actively compete with the foreign brands that runs with the developed management skills and enough fund, the domestic should classify the customers first and develop the menu. Also classified customers need diverse atmospheres to be satisfied. In addition to improve and specialize the quality of the service, there must be enough education for sure. Introducing foreign brands toward the domestic market doesn't help. In here, it is too crowded. We must try the international market with revised traditional and even foreign foods. The government needs to develop more effective and material polices, at the same time they abolish legal and systematic regulation.
