  • This paper describes fabrication of a micro cell counter integrated with an oxygen micropump and counting experiment with Sephadex G-25 beads ($70{\sim}100\;{\mu}m$). The pumping part consisted of a microheater, catalyst (manganese dioxide) enveloped with paraffin, hydrogen peroxide, and microchannel, and the counting part consisted of collimated light, a microwindow, and a phototransistor including an external circuit. The micropump generated oxygen gas by decomposing hydrogen peroxide with manganese dioxide, which was initiated by melting the paraffin with the microheater, and pumped beads in the microchannel. When the beads passed the microwindow, they shaded the collimated light and changed the illumination on the phototransistor, which caused the current variation in the circuit. The signals, according to the bead size, reached up to 22 mV with noise level of 2 mV during 50 seconds and the numbers of peaks were analyzed by magnitude.

  • This paper presents an adaptive neural network based controller and its application to Dynamic Positioning (DP) control system of ship. The proposed neural network based controller is developed for station-keeping and low-speed maneuvering control of ship. At first, the DP system configuration is described. And then, to validate the proposed DP system, computer simulations of station-keeping and low-speed maneuvering performance of a multi-purpose supply ship are presented under the influence of measurement noise, external disturbances such as sea current, wave, and wind. The simulations have shown the feasibility of the DP system in various maneuvering situations.

  • Up to the present studies of the car number recognition system, it is generally known to have serious problems such as relatively long processing time due to the excessive length of data extracted from the number plate based on the current image characteristics, and the image blurring with the physical damage of the brightness and darkness signals of the number plate caused by external impulses with many difficulties in the extraction of the highlighted numbers. In this Paper we used the characteristics firstly having a constant brightness of number plate, and a high density to the horizontal axis, and the influences of highlighted signal could be reduced by making reflections less through the polarized filter on the camera for any highlighted signal. For the more, the data processing time and the noise reduction are effectively implemented by using the wavelet transform of time-space scale with the considerations on the physical loss and processing time.

  • This paper presents a new adaptive autopilot for ships based on the Adaptive Neural Networks. The proposed adaptive autopilot is designed with some modifications and improvements from the previous studies on Adaptive Neural Networks by Adaptive Interaction (ANNAI) theory to perform course-keeping, turning and track-keeping control. A strategy for automatic selection c! the neural network controller parameters is introduced to improve the adaptation ability and the robustness of new ANNAI autopilot. In Part II of the paper, to show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed ANNAI autopilot, computer simulations of course-keeping and track-keeping tasks with and without the effects of measurement noise and external disturbances are presented.

  • In Part I (theoretical study) of the paper, a new adaptive autopilot for ships based on Adaptive Neural Networks was proposed. The ANNAI autopilot was designed for course-keeping, turning and track-keeping control for ships. In this part of the paper, to show the effectiveness and feasibility of the ANNAI autopilot, computer simulations of course-keeping and track-keeping tasks with and without the effects of measurement noise and external disturbances are presented. Additionally, the results of the previous studies using Adaptive Neural Network by backpropagation algorithm are also showed for comparison.

Controlling Position of Virtual Reality Contents with Mouth-Wind and Acceleration Sensor

  • In this paper, we propose a new framework to control VR(Virtual reality) contents in real time using user's mouth-wind and acceleration sensor of mobile device. In VR, user interaction technology is important, but various user interface methods is still lacking. Most of the interaction technologies are hand touch screen touch or motion recognition. We propose a new interface technology that can interact with VR contents in real time using user's mouth-wind method with acceleration sensor. The direction of the mouth-wind is determined using the angle and position between the user and the mobile device, and the control position is adjusted using the acceleration sensor of the mobile device. Noise included in the size of the mouth wind is refined using a simple average filter. In order to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed technology, we show the result of interacting with contents in game and simulation in real time by applying control position and mouth-wind external force to the game.

  • This work provides the analytical methods to represent the updated form of stiffness or flexibility matrices using the measurements of the first few natural frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes. This study derives the mathematical forms on the variance of stiffness or flexibility matrices to minimize the performance index in the satisfaction of the eigen-function including the residual force depending on the measured data. The proposed methods can be utilized in detecting damage and updating the parameter matrices deviated from the analytical parameter matrices. The validity of the proposed methods is investigated in a numerical experiment of truss structure and the numerical results of stiffness-based and flexibility-based methods are compared. The sensitivity to the external noise is also examined for applying to the practical work.

  • In this paper, an asynchronous nonvolatile memory module using a self-diagnosis function was designed. For the system to work, a lot of data must be input/output, and memory that can be stored is required. The volatile memory is fast, but data is erased without power, and the nonvolatile memory is slow, but data can be stored semi-permanently without power. The non-volatile static random-access memory is designed to solve these memory problems. However, the non-volatile static random-access memory is weak external noise or electrical shock, data can be some error. To solve these data errors, self-diagnosis algorithms were applied to non-volatile static random-access memory using error correction code, cyclic redundancy check 32 and data check sum to increase the reliability and accuracy of data retention. In addition, the possibility of application to an asynchronous non-volatile storage system requiring reliability was suggested.

A Study on Microwave Self Oscillating Mixer Using Ga As MESFET (GaAs MESFET를 이용한 초고주파 자체발진 혼합기에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, self-oscillating mixer is designed by small signal S-parameter and series feedback circuit. The input-output matching circuit is accomplished from double stub and additional matching stub. The self-oscillating mixer is oscillating itself and amplifies without any external local oscillator and an intermediate frequency amplifier, so it has advantages in its economical and system simplification. The experimental results show the maximum conversion gain 1.5d B and the noise figure 6.5d B at RF center frequency 4GHz and IF 1.1GHz` output oscillating power 4d Bm, efficiency 13.4%, stability -10MHz/V and -0.5MHz/\ulcornerC at oscillating frequency 5.1GHz.The rejection band loss characteristics in band pass filter and low pass filter are -40d B and -30d B, respectively.
