A Study of Movement Expression in Fashion Design and Its Design Development (복식디자인에 나타난 움직임의 표현 분석과 디자인 개발)

  • The purposes of this study are to consider characteristics of 'movement expression' that are not discovered in preceeding design studies in order to suggest 'movement expression' as a design formative principal and to make clothes which follows this idea. For the method of this study I used various literature about 'movement expression' as theoretical background and analyzed modern clothing in which 'movement expression' is expressed by collecting magazines including foreign collections from 1989 to 2004 and searching the internet. The results obtained from this study is as follows. First, clothing in which 'movement expression' is expressed removes monotony and tedium of clothing design, provides visual interest and satisfaction for clothing, and delivers designers' concept effectively by attracting a gaze quickly. And It is suggested a new division of 'movement expression' through analysis of the 'movement expression' expressed in clothing. It included the intentional movement by wearers, which is the 'movement expression' of broader meaning such as changes of form or position by a certain operation and changes of existence or function. This movement is not fixed and repeated but changes continuously. As a result of including the design expressing the intentional movement by wearers, one's own personality can be expressed more effectively. It is presented a design which has changeable movement expression continuously.

  • The expression of the movement in the animation is one of important factors built up the work. It is determined wholly by the experiences of the animator in the animation, on the contrary, the expression of movie depends on the data obtained from the motion capture or the movement of the actors. One of the most important factors is the timing expression in expression of movement of characters and the proper understanding of direction circumstance and the expression of the timing make the animation more plentiful visually and also these are the basic method that introduce the feeling to the characters. In this study we Identify the basic principles of timing expression in the animation, make experiments for the changes of timing by the camera's angle, compare them and show the most proper methods of timing expression.

  • The purposed of this study is searching the characteris-tic of 'Movement' expression by the Moving experience in display space. First, the concept of 'Movement' was defined by visitor's moving experiences according to the time pass and to visual perception. Exhibit cases were analygied to fine the relationships the defined 'Movement' experience with display spaces. But, 'Movement' is related moving experience from the entrance to importance of display space, and that is picked out key word in movement expression. Consequently, two category (visual expression, expres-sion method) to regard on the space design in display space was suggested focused on the concept of 'Movement'.

Aesthetic Characteristics of 'Movement' Expressed in Modern Fashion (현대 패션에 표현된 움직임의 미적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the aesthetic characteristics of 'movement' expression in modern fashion(1910-2004) based on a study of modern fine arts which adopted 'movement' element in their work. In this study the meaning of movement was defined as motion, changing position and transformation. Literature survey through books and research papers and demonstrative study with fashion collection photos were undertaken. The results wert as follows ; 1) Kinetic art, optical an, light kinetic art and technology art such as video and computer art have adopted 'movement' element in their work. 2) The plasticities of 'movement' fine arts were identified as mutual penetration, increase of visibility, use of non-traditional materials and dynamism. The internal meanings were identified as expansion of aesthetic experience and the concept of fine art, optimistic attitude on technology, spectator participation and integration of art and life. 3) The 'movement' expression in modern fashion was distinctively found in 1910s-20s(avant-garde fashion), 1960s (kinetic and optical art fashion) and mid 1990s to 2004 (techno-cyber fashion). 4) The plasticities of the 'movement' expression in modern fashion were identified as non-definition, use of non-traditional materials, dynamism. The internal meanings were identified as expansion of aesthetic experience and the concept of dress, optimistic attitude on technology, playfulness through participation. In conclusion, the expression of 'movement' in modern fashion has optimistic viewpoint on the development of modern society and is one of the interesting design points which will be pursued in the fellowing years.

A Study on the Change of a Formative Expression in the Restorative Fashion (복고풍 패션의 조형적 표현기법 변화에 관한 연구)

  • The present study purposed to compare formative expression between the fashion of the end of 19th century - early 20th century and that of the 21st century which were influenced by art nouveau and art deco. For this purpose, we analyzed contents in literature, Internet, etc.,. According to the results of this study, the formative expression of art nouveau were divided into continuous movement, optical illusion and decorative expression. Continuous movement was used to express fancy and soft images in the end of 19th century, and to express images giving the feeling of speed and tension in the 21st century. Optical illusion was expressed by the movement the thin and soft materials with the body movement and the movement of excessive frills adornment. And in movement produced using thin and soft materials and by the bias cutting method in the 21st century. Decorative expression was expressed as fantasy and decadent image in the end of 19th century and as mild passionate and modern image with color combination in the 21st century. The formative expression of art deco were divided into visual simplicity, contrastive loudness, and functional expression. Visual simplicity was expressed as a boyish image in the early of 20th century, but as a complex expression combining simplicity and femininity in the 21st century. Contrastive loudness was expressed by using colors both in the early of 20th century and 21st century. Functional expression was reinforced through the lightening of design and materials in the early of 20th century, but through using bias cutting high tech materials in the 21st century.

Kinect Sensor- based LMA Motion Recognition Model Development

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest that the movement expression activity of intellectually disabled people is effective in the learning process of LMA motion recognition based on Kinect sensor. We performed an ICT motion recognition games for intellectually disabled based on movement learning of LMA. The characteristics of the movement through Laban's LMA include the change of time in which movement occurs through the human body that recognizes space and the tension or relaxation of emotion expression. The design and implementation of the motion recognition model will be described, and the possibility of using the proposed motion recognition model is verified through a simple experiment. As a result of the experiment, 24 movement expression activities conducted through 10 learning sessions of 5 participants showed a concordance rate of 53.4% or more of the total average. Learning motion games that appear in response to changes in motion had a good effect on positive learning emotions.   • Many architects in the second machine age experiment on the movement in architectural design. They consider a movement as a flow of information and vector as well as the real motion. They express the movement in architectural design as nomad architecture, network city, rhizome, mutual transformation among building, environment and visitors, and form generation as the actualization of the virtual. It is partly the result of the philosophy of Deleuze and Bergson that a movement is just a duration as a difference of quality. It is because Deleuze explains that the realization of the virtual as a becoming is also the kind of movement. This study analyzes the method of expression of movement in architectural design in the second machine age. As a result, the movement in architectural design in the second machine age was expressed in two ways. One method is a territorialized movement that moves in the fixed trajectory and the other is a deterritorialized movement that moves in the random indeterminate trajectory.

This study Separate the line on movement expression from symbolic the perspective and try to newly define by using, was classified lines of four kinds by add the afterimage line on existing the speed line, the motion line, the effect line. First, the speed line was defined as 'The line expressing the movement expression of a moving target as the concept of speed'. It on the way of expression was subdivided the direct as speed line when it alter the shape of the target and the indirect speed line when it alter the background of the target. Second, the motion line was defined as 'The line simplified the moving form or the moving path of moving target'. Third, the effect line was defined as 'the line emphasizing the movement expression of a moving target by Sensory expression or emotional expression. Fourth, the afterimage lines was defined as 'The line expressing slowly moving or swaying the movement expression of target to the afterimage effect. The terminology presented in this study will be able to help the understanding of the line on the movement expression .

Early Childhood Teachers' Content Knowledge on Movement Education

  • The purpose of the study was to examine early childhood teachers' content knowledge of movement education. The subjects, 60 early childhood teachers, were asked to draw concept maps about early childhood movement education. Their concept maps were analyzed in terms of superordinate and subordinate concepts by contents and frequency. The results were as follows. First, 263 superordinate concepts were shown, and they were categorized into 10 representative terms (body movement/health, music, expression, movement type, movement element, games, integration/arts, social studies, tool/instrument, and math/science). Second, 2,186 subordinate concepts were shown, and running, movement, jumping, musical instrument, and expression were frequently shown. In conclusion, early childhood teachers' content knowledge of movement education were various but insufficient in aspect of its systematic organization.

A Study on Visual Expression Characteristics of Motion Poster (모션 포스터의 시각적 표현 특징 연구)

  • This paper analyzed the characteristics of Motion Poster (Moster) and discussed the visual expression methods. To this end, the existing literature on motion posters was organized. The visual representation of motion posters was analyzed by dividing into 'Main Visual', 'Mode of Movement', 'Playtime' and 'Sound'. The analysis results were as follows. As motion posters are kind of movie posters, they are made from the original movie poster images, characters, or scenes of the movie. Graphical representations used either photo-realism or computer realism. The movement methods are 'simple movement of visual elements(movement, gesture and rotation, appear or disappear)+fixed camera movement' or' camera movement (zoom in/out, rotate, move) + fixed visual element movement'. Playback time ranged from about 10 seconds to over 1 minute of video, and the longer the video, the higher the probability of including sound.
