The Busan shoe industry has been the accelerating overseas transfer of production facilities due to loss of competitiveness in the wake of drastic revaluation of the won, an increase in personnel expenses and the rise of backup developing countries since the late 1980s. On account of changes in the general system of supply and demand caused by a decrease in exports and production, the Industrial structure has been subjected to a transition from export to domestic demand. As a result, the Busan shoe industry, which used to rank second in the world in terms of its shoe export and to account for 16.5% in terms of its market share, started to be regarded as a fast-fading industry. As a domestic companies have a tendency to almost all the tasks on bloc, it is true that their competitiveness is on the rapid decline for they prefer self-reliance on the premise that all the production should be dealt with for themselves. It is outsourcing that is taken into account as a strategic vehicle for converting such self-reliance into the system of low expenditure and high efficiency.

Guided by a resource-based theory, this study is the first one that takes a quantitative approach to identify determinants of competitiveness of women-owned small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam. The study employs time series data of Vietnamese SMEs extracted from the Vietnam Small and Medium Enterprises Survey conducted biennially from 2005 to 2015 in ten Vietnamese provinces. Firm competitiveness hereby is indicated by revenue, market share, profitability, and export volume. The research reveals a number of determining factors, of all, research and development, labor skills, business environment, technology investment are the most important factors, followed by capital and headcount. It is indicated that the determining factors have different influences on competitiveness obtained by different measurements. Therefore, it is based on specific targets and situations to make wise business decisions. The authors also make comparisons among groups of women-owned enterprises divided by their firm age, location, ownership, export, age, and educational background of business owners. The findings serve as critical empirical evidence and provide policy recommendations for improving the competitiveness of women-owned SMEs in Vietnam. The recommendations range from technology support, education and professional support for female entrepreneurs, access to capital and human resources to business environment improvement.
Purpose - The digital service trade has become an important driver of the global service trade. The main purpose of this study is to explore the influencing factors of digital service exports from China and Korea to RCEP sample countries respectively, and to comprehensively study the export potential of China and Korea to RCEP countries, so as to provide theoretical guidance and a decision-making reference to promote digital service trade exports and digital economy development in China and Korea. Design/methodology - First, the stochastic frontier gravity model was improved by introducing nonefficiency factors affecting digital services trade, extending the gravity model of traditional services trade exports to digital services trade exports. Secondly, the panel data of China and Korea for the eight sample countries of RCEP from 2011 to 2021 were adopted for the empirical analysis of digital service export potential by a stochastic frontier model. Findings - China's economic growth plays a role in increasing China's digital service trade exports, while Korea's economic growth does not play a significant role in increasing Korea's digital service trade exports. However, the economic growth of trading partner countries can play a significant role in boosting the digital service trade in both China and Korea, and comparison shows that Korea has higher resilience in the digital services trade than China. In addition, the market size of target countries plays a positive role in promoting the digital service trade exports of both China and Korea, and the increase in the value-added share of services in target countries will lead to a decrease in the digital service trade exports of both China and Korea. Originality/value - This study is innovative in terms of research perspective and method. Academic research on the export potential of international trade has been extensive, but most studies are based on the perspective of the goods trade, fewer studies are based on the perspective of the service trade, and there are almost no studies based on the perspective of digital service trade. There is a gap based on the comparative analysis of the export potential of the digital service trade between China and Korea. This study extends the gravitational model of traditional service trade exports to digital service trade exports to comparatively analyze the export potential of China and Korea to RCEP countries. This study addresses this limitation by analyzing a comparative analysis of the digital service trade export potential of China and Korea.
Purpose - Based on the telecommunication service trade data of China, Japan, and South Korea from 2009 to 2019, this paper compares and analyzes the international competitiveness of the three countries' telecommunication service trade, and finds the existing problems in China through the comparison, so as to make reasonable planning and industrial development strategy, and find away to catch up. Design/methodology - The comparative analysis method was used to compare and analyze the international competitiveness of telecommunication service trade among China, Japan, and South Korea from the three aspects of market share, trade surplus, and export proportion represented by MS, TC, G-L, RCA, and CA. Findings - The international competitiveness of telecommunication service trade among China, Japan, and South Korea does not have competitive advantages. China is larger than Japan and South Korea, but only close to average globally, and its share of trade in telecommunications services is lower than Japan and South Korea's. Originality/value - This paper tries to explore international competitiveness in the field of telecommunication service trade, and through the comparison of five indicators to find problems in China, so as to put forward countermeasures to improve the international competitiveness of China's telecommunication service trade, and lay a foundation for subsequent research on the source factors of international competitiveness.
One of the biggest problems of Korean economy is polarization of firms for export and domestic demand and that of conglomerates and SME's achievement. One of the culprits lies weakness of intermediate industry such as machine tool. Since intermediate industry is important path where export performance affects domestic demand and whose actor usually is SMEs with high spill over effect in labor market. Especially, intermediate industry Is vulnerable because of industrial policy biased In backward linkage effect. However if a country fails to develop intermediate industry above some critical point, that country would fall in low-tech equilibrium without growth. In case of benign circle where final goods industry growth leads growth of intermediate industry and again it leads that of final goods industry, it can reach high-tech equilibrium. By contrast, in opposite case where in industrialization latecomer fails to link industries likewise above some critical point that country would fall in low-tech equilibrium without growth. Moreover, for several reasons, machine tool firms of Korea have difficulty in catching up technology above critical point. Firstly. Conglomerate demander neglects their product. Secondly, even after success of development overcoming difficulties they fail to get market share for response of dumping of foreign competitors. And the last one is patent litigation of foreign competitors that incapacitate the technology development. For these, Korean machine tool firms fell in 'middle-income country trap' itself, since they stuck in some extent when they technologically catch up. Consequently, for latecomer country in machine tool industry to leapfrog meaningfully policy support is necessary, Weak intermediate industry does not Induce domestic firms and remained fragile. Therefore, localization, policy should reflect condition of technological catch up more than before, in order to be effective and fruitful. There should be turning point over relationship between conglomerates, major demander of machine tool and SME's, for only with active purchasing of conglomerate Korean machine industry can grow.
Purpose - The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) among 16 countries including South Korea, the largest free trade agreement in the Asia-Pacific region, will be concluded next year. The participating countries decided to pursue a comprehensive and high -quality agreement, while ensuring flexibility considering development level of each country. In this study, trade structures between nations from 2005 through 2016 were examined to see the impact that this agreement will have on Korea and to come up with effective countermeasures. Research design, data, and methodology - The method of analysis includes the analysis of the trade matrix, which is useful for identifying the dependency of the individual countries on the market in the region and the reciprocal dependency of the member countries on the market, and the index of intensity of trade, which is useful for figuring out the share of trade between the parties in total trade. Results - The results showed that first, the international trade coefficients of Vietnam and Philippines are higher than those of China and Japan. Secondly, the international inducement coefficients between China and Japan were high, and that between Indonesia and Burma were low, indicating that Korea's exports did not have much effect on export increase of these countries. Third, as a result of analyzing Korea's trade intensity, it was found that export intensity and import intensity were greater than 1 in Vietnam and Philippines, which shows that there is a high degree of relational bond with these countries. India and Laos countries still have a low level of relational bond, which indicates that there is room for improvement in economic relations when the agreement is concluded. After the signing of the agreement in the future, more diverse industrial structures should be continuously studied. Conclusions - The analysis of trade matrix, trade structure, trade inducement coefficient and trade intensity between Korea and RCEP participating countries shows that the majority of the countries have the high level of economic relationship with Korea. Korea should drive a harder bargain when negotiating the terms of the RCEP, in comparison with the level of the existing FTA agreement excluding Japan.
Purpose - Although Korean food export has been increasing, they will stagnate without markets. This study considers Korean halal food exports to Indonesia and Malaysia, which are two of the largest halal food markets. Given the context, this study aims to predict Indonesian and Malaysian consumers' purchase intention toward Korean halal food through their acceptance of and feeling toward Korea's image. Design/methodology - This study surveyed Indonesian and Malaysian consumers who purchased Korean halal food in the past year. The survey data were analyzed using the statistical package for the social sciences 21.0 and the analysis of moment structures 21.0. Findings - The analysis reveals that the feeling toward Korea's image and its food image significantly impacted attitudes and subjective norms, while the acceptance of Korea's image significantly impacted only subjective norms. Attitude showed no significant effect on purchase intention, whereas subjective norms exhibited a significant effect on purchase intention. The image feeling had a greater impact on attitudes in Indonesia than those in Malaysia, whereas image acceptance showed a greater influence on subjective norms in Malaysia than those in Indonesia. Originality/value - This study considers the difference between Indonesian and Malaysian consumers in relation to their acceptance of and feeling toward Korea's image and its halal food image. These findings on Korea's image can play a key role in establishing Korea's food export strategy and have strategic implications on Korean companies aiming to enter the halal food market or increase their market share.

The Korean film industry has grown fast since the 2000s in terms of entering the 50% market share level, the emergence of 10million box-office movies and export performance improvement; however, the earning rate of production and investment part has decreased and recorded a minus value since 2005. This article aims to find key the determinants for the success of Korean movies from 2001~2006, a period of high growth and success of the Korean film industry through a multiple regression analysis. This paper introduces new determinants such as the interaction effect of the director and lead actor as well as mass culture codes. Finally, the authors suggest some proposals to make the Korean Film Industry more profitable.
I compared trade structure and competitiveness by sector using industrial classification in UN Comtrade data and SITC. Based on the comparison, I calculated market share, export competitions, RCA, and TSI. and then selected sensitive industries based on competitiveness, and identified the ZOPA and our BATNA. These calculations confirmed the industries damaged by FTA and those benefiting from the FTA between Korea and Japan, the study them developed strategies for VIA negotiation. It is to minimize damages to Korean economy and to maximize benefits from the agreement. The negotiation plan allowed an adjustment period for industries, for which damages are expected, by setting a long grace period before implementing tariffs. Based on the negotiation plan made through economic analysis, I intend. contribute to more efficient promotion of negotiation by extracting the optimal FFA negotiation plan for each manufacturing industry.

Recently, it has become more competitive to take larger market share among domestic companies manufacturing high-power apparatus. Unfortunately, the size of total market in this field is being smaller than before because the business of transmission and distribution of electric power is being shifted from government control to private management. To save this situation, we are trying to develop new high-voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear for export such as 245kV GIS and 300kV GIS. It is very important to make GIS compact size to have international competitiveness against European companies. By reducing GIS's dimensions same as 170kV class, we expect to launch abroad successfully. Many factors should be considered to achieve good performance during short-circuit making-breaking. Analysis on cold gas flow is one method widely used to evaluate small-current interruption. Through this analysis, we can examine the dielectric characteristics at the weak points in the circuit-breaker. In this paper, we describe the results of cold-gas flow analyses on 245kV and 300kV circuit-breakers.
