  • Various models are currently applied to predict the dispersion of leaked combustible gas and overpressure from a vapor cloud explosion(VCE). However, those models use simple approaches where topography and barriers of anti-leakage facilities and the effects of buildings were not sufficiently taken into considerations. For this reason, this study has proposed the dispersion process of leaked gas, distribution patterns, and flames and overpressure generated from gas explosions in 2D and 3D virtual spaces by reviewing more accurately analyzable computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model by considering various variables including combustion types of leaked substances, geometry of facility, warm currents, barriers, the influence of wind, and others. The CFD analysis results are anticipated to be usefully applied for the risk analysis of explosion and for the risk-based design.

  • Until now, several empirical models for assessing the damage due to TNT explosions have been proposed. A set of analytical solutions for the time-dependent radius of an expanding fire-ball after detonation of TNT was obtained by solving the continuity, Euler (momentum), and energy equations with a "polytrope" assumption at the fire-ball center. The shock waves developed from the rapid expansion of a fire-ball under water were obtained by using the KirkwoodBBethe hypothesis. The calculated period of bubble oscillation and the maximum radius of the bubble resulting from the fire-ball due to a violent underwater TNT explosion were in good agreement with the experimental data.

  • Soils and sediments have been uniquely tagged by radioactive isotopes as a result of nuclear test explosions in the 1950's and 1960's. Fallout $^{137}Cs$ strongly fixed to fine soil particles, was measured in sediment profiles in Larto Lake to calculate the sedimentation rate as a time dependence. The Lake sediment profiles indicated an average rate of 1.6 to 3.1 cm/yr of sediment deposition since 1958. The rate of sediment depositions clearly decreased with time. Particle size distribution in sediment was reflected almost fine particles in lake.

  • The aim of this study is to evaluate the characteristics of explosion and flame velocity that can be utilized to factories where Mg-Al alloy metal powders are handled in the form of raw materials, products or by-product for similar dust explosion prevention and mitigation. Because the strength of the blast pressure is the result due to flame propagation, flame velocity in dust explosion can be utilized as a valuable information for damage prediction. An experimental investigation was carried out on the influences of content ratio of Mg-Al alloy (mean particle size distribution of 151 to 161 ${\mu}m$). And a model of flame propagation velocity based on the time to peak pressure and flame arrival time in dust explosion pressure, assuming the constant burning velocity, leads to a representation of flame velocity during dust explosion. As the results, the maximum flame velocity of Mg-Al(60:40 wt%), Mg-Al(50:50 wt%) and Mg-Al(40:60 wt%) was estimated 15.5, 18 and 15.2 m/s respectively, and also tend to change with content ratio of Mg-Al.

  • Laser-induced combustions and explosions generated by high laser irradiances were explored by Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) in rich, and stoichiometric conditions. The laser used for target ablation is a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with 7 ns pulse duration at wavelength of 1064 nm laser energies from 40 mJ to 2500 mJ ($6.88{\times}10^{10}-6.53{\times}10^{11}\;W/cm^2$). The plasma light source from aluminum detected by the echelle grating spectrometer and coupled to the gated ICCD(a resolution (${\lambda}/{\Delta}{\lambda}$) of 5000). This spectroscopic study has been investigated for obtaining both the atomic signals of aluminum (fuel) - oxygen (oxidizer) and the calculated ambient condition (plasma temperature and electron density). The essence of the paper is observing specific electron density ratio which can support the processes of combustion and explosion between ablated aluminum plume and oxygen from air by inducing high power laser.

  • The notion of quasi-Einstein manifolds arose during the study of exact solutions of the Einstein field equations as well as during considerations of quasi-umbilical hypersurfaces. For instance, the Robertson-Walker spacetimes are quasi-Einstein manifolds. The object of the present paper is to study Lorentzian quasi-Einstein manifolds. Some basic geometric properties of such a manifold are obtained. The applications of Lorentzian quasi-Einstein manifolds to the general relativity and cosmology are investigated. Theories of gravitational collapse and models of Supernova explosions [5] are based on a relativistic fluid model for the star. In the theories of galaxy formation, relativistic fluid models have been used in order to describe the evolution of perturbations of the baryon and radiation components of the cosmic medium [32]. Theories of the structure and stability of neutron stars assume that the medium can be treated as a relativistic perfectly conducting magneto fluid. Theories of relativistic stars (which would be models for supermassive stars) are also based on relativistic fluid models. The problem of accretion onto a neutron star or a black hole is usually set in the framework of relativistic fluid models. Among others it is shown that a quasi-Einstein spacetime represents perfect fluid spacetime model in cosmology and consequently such a spacetime determines the final phase in the evolution of the universe. Finally the existence of such manifolds is ensured by several examples constructed from various well known geometric structures.

  • A dust explosion is a phenomenon of strong blast wave propagation involving destruction which results from dust pyrolysis and rapid oxidation in a confined space. There has been some research done to find individual explosion characteristics and common physical laws for various dust types. However, there has been insufficient number of studies related to the heat of combustion of materials and the oxygen consumption energy about materials in respect of dust explosion characteristics. The present study focuses on the relationship between dust explosion characteristics of wood dust samples and oxygen consumption energy. Since it is difficult to estimate the weight of suspended dust participating in explosions in dust explosion and mixtures are in fuel-rich conditions concentrations with equivalent ratios exceeding 1, methods for estimating explosion overpressure by applying oxygen consumption energy based on unit volume air at standard atmospheric pressure and temperature are proposed. In this study an oxygen consumption energy model for dust explosion is developed, and by applying this model to TNT equivalent model, initial explosion efficiency was calculated by comparing the results of standardized dust explosion experiments.

  • Many of plastic powders handled in industry are combustible and have the hazard of dust fire and explosion accidents. However poor information about the safe handling has been presented in the production works. The aim of this research is investigated experimentally on explosive characteristics of various plastic powders used in industry and to provide additional data with safety informations. The explosibility parameters investigated using standard dust explosibility test equipment of Siwek 20-L explosion chamber. As the results, the dust explosion index ($K_{st}$) of ABS ($209.8{\mu}m$), PE ($81.8{\mu}m$), PBT ($21.3{\mu}m$), MBS ($26.7{\mu}m$) and PMMA ($14.3{\mu}m$) are 62.4, 59.4, 70.3, 303 and 203.6[$bar{\cdot}m/s$], respectively. And flame propagation velocity during plastic dust explosions for prediction of explosive damage was estimated using a flame propagation model based on the time to peak pressure and flame arrival time in dust explosion pressure assuming the constant burning velocity.

  • In this study, a new reaction system is proposed to solve the problems of the existing 2,3-Butanediol (2,3-BDO) dehydration reaction system. It was confirmed that the reaction system did not wok as it should operate properly when using a furnace, which is commonly used in commercial processes, to raise the reactant, 2,3-BDO, to the reaction temperature, 360 ℃, at near atmoshperic pressure. It is because of the substance considered to be oligomers of 2,3-BDO. It can lead to safety problems, such as blockages inside the furnace's tube and explosions, as well as tricky maintenance issues in the reaction system. To solve it, the temperature of reactant can be brought down by using a heat exchanger with High Pressure (HP) steam instead of the furnace, which has a hot spot problem through the vacuum operation and reduce the reaction temperature. It can be seen that the reactor performance is almost similar under the vacuum operation and the lower reaction temperature, 330 ℃, by using a reaction kinetics. This result explains why the new reaction system is proposed.

  • To study the behavior of structures subject to blast loads it is important to calculate the loads due to the explosives accurately, especially in the case of interior explosions. It is known that numerical method based on computational fluid dynamics can estimate relatively accurate blast load due to the interior explosion including reflection effect. However, the numerical method has disadvantages that it is difficult to model the analysis and it takes much time to analyze it. Therefore, in this study, the analytical method which can include the reflection effect of the interior explosion was studied. The target structures were set as the slabs of residential buildings subject to interior explosion that could lead to massive casualties and progressive collapses. First, the numerical method is used to investigate the interior explosion effect and the maximum deflection of the slab which was assumed to be elastic, and compared with the analytical method proposed in this study. In the proposed analytical method, we determine the weighting factor of the reflection effect using the beam theory so that the explosion load calculation method becomes more accurate.
