  • The relationship between dependent personality traits and depression has been widely studied in the field of psychology. However, the existing evidence is mixed and often contradictory, obscuring the precise nature of this relationship. Given that the most common method of measuring the construct of dependency has been to administer self-report instruments, it is possible that implicit dependency, another parameter of dependency that is distinct from explicit dependency measured via self-report, is confounding these results. The current study aimed to clarify the relationship between dependency and depression by comparing the effect of implicit and explicit dependency. Implicit dependency was measured via the Single Category-Implicit Association Test (SC-IAT), a test of implicit personality that has shown to have good validity and reliability in previous studies. In addition, we examined the effect of gender on this relationship, given the potential role of gender stereotype that may make male participants show lower levels of dependency when measured through self-report (vs. SC-IAT). Results showed that implicit and explicit dependency indeed had separate and distinct relationships, and the relationships depends on participants' gender. Among female participants, increased explicit dependency predicted depression only when implicit dependency was also elevated. In contrast, explicit dependency predicted depression regardless of the level of implicit dependency in male participants. These findings suggest that implicit and explicit dependency may be separate parameters capturing different aspects of dependent personality traits, further supporting the need to consider the implicit aspect of personality in personality assessment research. Implications and limitations of the current findings and directions for future research are discussed.

  • A generalized numerical approach based on the finite element method to analysis and design of hydroforming process is proposed in this paper. The special attention is focused on comparison of an implicit and an explicit finite element method widely used for hydroforming simulation. Furthermore, in order to meet the increasing real needs for prediction of forming limit, a ductile fracture criterion combined with finite element method is introduced and then applied to hydroforming process of an automobile lower m Consequently, the numerical analysis and design for hydroforming process presented here will facilitate the development and application of the tube hydrofoniung process to a new level.

  • Finite element analysis is carried out for simulation of the multi-stage elliptic cup drawing process with the large aspect ratio. The analysis incorporates with shell elements for an elasto-plastic finite element method with the explicit time integration scheme. For the simulation, LS-DYNA3D is utilized for its wide capability of solving forming problems. The simulation result shows that the non-uniform drawing ratio at the elliptic cross section ad the small shoulder radius cause failure such as tearing and wrinkling. The result suggests the guideline to modify the tool shape for prevention of the failure during the drawing process.

  • The Interactions of shock wave with turbulent boundary layers in high-speed flows cause complex flowfields which result in increased adverse pressure gradients, skin friction and temperature. Accurate and reliable prediction of such phenomena is needed in designing high-speed propulsion systems. Such analyses of the complex flowfields require sophisticated numerical scheme that can resolve interactions between shock wave and boundary layers accurately. Therefore the purpose of the present. article is to introduce an accurate and efficient mixed explicit-implicit generalized Galerkin finite element method. To demonstrate the validity of the theory and numerical procedure, several benchmark cases are investigated.

  • A simple and effective method for improving Euclidean norm condition number for chemical processing system is presented. The singular value sensitivities of Freudenberg et al. (1982) is used to estimate the behavior of singular values of process transfer function matrix when design parameter is changed, then the condition number can be calculated straightforwardly. The method requires explicit dependencies of each transfer function matrix elements on design parameters. These dependencies can be obtained either by symbolic differentiation in the form of explicit function of design parameters, or by numerical perturbation studies for units with large and complicated models. Gerschgorin-type lower bound for minimum singular value is introduced to detect the large divergencies near singular point due to linearity of sensitivities. The case studies are performed to show the efficiency of the proposed method.

  • Vision is the most important sensing capability for both men and sensory smart machines, such as intelligent robots. Sensed real 3D world and its 2D camera image can be related mathematically by a process called camera calibration. In this paper, we present a novel linear solution of camera calibration. Unlike most existing linear calibration methods, the proposed technique of this paper can identify camera parameters explicitly. Through the step-by-step procedure of the proposed method, the real physical elements of the perspective projection transformation matrix between 3D points and the corresponding 2D image points can be identified. This explicit solution will be useful for many practical 3D sensing applications including robotics. We verified the proposed method by using various cameras of different conditions.

  • A zonal embedded grid technique has been developed for computation of the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with cylindrical coordinates. The fundamental idea of the zonal embedded grid technique is that the number of azimuthal grids can be made small near the origin of the coordinates so that the grid size is more uniformly distributed over the domain than with the conventional regular-grid system. The code developed using this technique combined with the explicit, finite-volume method was then applied to calculation of the spin-up flows within a semi-circular cylinder. It was shown that the numerical results were in good agreement with the experimental results both qualitatively and quantitatively.

  • In this paper, the method for soil-structure interaction analyses in the time domain is proposed. The far field soil region which is the outside of the artificial boundary is modeled by using explicit frequency-dependent two dimensional infinite elements which can include multiple wave components propagating into the unbounded medium. Since the dynamic stiffness matrix of the far field soil region using the proposed infinite elements is obtained explicitly in terms of exciting frequencies and constants in the frequency domain, the matrix can be easily transformed into the displacement unit-impulse response matrix, which corresponds to a convolution integral of it in the time domain. To verify the proposed method for soil-structure interaction analyses in the time domain, the displacement responses due to an impulse load on the surface of a soil layer with the rigid bed rock are compared with those obtained by the method in the frequency domain and those by models with extend finite element meshes. Good agreements have been found between them.

  • In this paper, a design method of a robust adaptive regulator with feedfoward path based on the explicit criterion minimization is proposed. The convergence speed of parameter estimation is improved by using the stochastic Newton minimization method in the criterion minimization algorithm, and sensitivity derivatives are used in the regulator calculation for improving the robustness of the control system. Trh proposed adaptive regulator is applied to the stable minimum-phase and nonminimum-phase system, the results are shown that control performance and disturbance compensation ability of the regulator are improved. And the choosing method of input penalty is proposed.

  • A new family of structure-dependent integration methods is developed to enhance with desired numerical damping. This family method preserves the most important advantage of the structure-dependent integration method, which can integrate unconditional stability and explicit formulation together, and thus it is very computationally efficient. In addition, its numerical damping can be continuously controlled with a parameter. Consequently, it is best suited to solving an inertia-type problem, where the unimportant high frequency responses can be suppressed or even eliminated by the favorable numerical damping while the low frequency modes can be very accurately integrated.
