This study attempted to analyze the trend of studies related to IHD(Ischemic Heart Disease). This article reviewed 102 researches on IHD conducted from 1980 to 2003, by examining them according to their characteristics, such as sources by publication period, research design, nursing intervention, outcome of experimental research, and theme of qualitative research. The results were as follows : 1. The number of studies related to IHD has steadily increased year by year since 1985, and that of the articles was the highest during the post-2000 period. Especially, the majority of researches has published since 1995. 2. The 69 studies were degree of all 102 studies related to IHD, and the majority of articles' authors belonged to graduate school. Thirty three studies were non-degree articles. As for study design, the number of quantitative studies were 99 and that of qualitative studies were 3. Non-experimental research design were largely survey and correlational study. 3. Non-experimental study makes up a high proportion of the quantitative study. The most of experimental studies were accomplished after 2000. The main subjects were patients, chart records and general subjects. The majority number of subjects was like this : while the number of non-experimental study was between 51 and 100, that of experimental study was below 50. The number of subject of qualitative study is like this : the number of phenomenology study was 21 and 11, and that of case study is 14. 4. Nursing interventions used in the experimental study comprised teaching program, cardiac rehabilitation program, massage, relaxation, music therapy and providing of sense information. And the most nursing intervention effects included physiological effect, increased self-efficacy, relieved pain and increased quality of life. Most studies proved to have the affirmative effects. 5. The number of qualitative studies related to IHD is like this : the number of degree articles was 2 and that of non-degree articles was 1. Its themes included resources of hope, the experience of coronary artery angiography and the experience of admission at ICU(Intensive Care Unit).
This study was carried out to describe and analyze experimental studies conducted in graduates nursing degree. Of 170 experimental studies conducted during the past three decades between 1962 and August 1991, 150 studies were available, including 124 master’s and 26 doctoral theses. This study examined their general characteristics and detailed research methods using percentiles. The results were as follows 1. Most of the studies adopted a quasi-experimental design. 2. The subjects of the studies were chosen by convenience sampling except for two studies whose subjects were drawn by randomization. Studies comparing experimental and control groups were in the highest proportion and the most frequent sample sizes of each group were 21 to 30 for both experimental and control groups. 3. As to measurement, physiological measures were most frequent followed by psychsociological measures and active report questionnaires. Each study, on average, adopted two kind of measurement tools. Studies in which the data collection period was of 1~2 months were in the highest pro-portion. 4. All doctoral theses and 67.0% of master’s theses examined specific research hypotheses. Of these studies, the results of 92.5% supported the hypotheses. 5. Parametric statistics were the major analytical methods. In particular, t-test was used most frequently followed by Chi square, F-test, and Pearson Correlation Coefficients. 6. Patients were the most frequent study subjects. Frequent nursing interventions were information and education followed by support, distraction, and nursing treatments. 7. With regards to the dependent variables, “feelings” such as anxiety, pain, and depression were most frequent. In addition “exchanging” such as restoring, metabolism, cardiopulmonary function, infection and vital signs were adopted as the dependent variables in 29.1% of the studies examined, while 12.3% of the studies selected “choosing” such as stress, health behavior, or role performance.
Objectives : This study was aimed to review the trend of dementia clinical studies in Korean Oriental Medicine and to suggest better clinical studies. Method : We collected 26 papers on dementia clinical studies in the internet site OASIS using the keyword 'Dementia'. Then we analyzed them. Results : There were 26 clinical study papers that were published between 1996 and 2010. Observational studies account for 61% of total clinical studies, whereas experimental studies account for only 31%. Effects of treatment in experimental studies was evaluated mainly by MMSE-K and K-DRS. Treatment period of experimental studies was longer than 100days. Conclusions : High quality experimental studies like randomized clinical trial(RCT) and intervention studies which use syndrome differentiation(辨證) have not yet been published. It is necessary to research and develop duration of treatment effect and tools for evaluating treatment effects.
Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of various herbal medicin on gut microbiota. Methods Electronic searches were performed using NDSL, OASIS, KISS, KMBASE, K-portal, Pub med, Cochrane, CNKI. Results we analyzed 25 experimental studies on the effect of herbal medicine on microbiota. Diabetes, obesity, inflammatory bowel disease have been frequently studied in micobiota-related disease. The most common experimental animal model used in the studies C57BL/7 mouse. Among the studies wherein single herbal medication were used, Gynostemma pentaphyllum was most commonly studies, and different herbal medications were used in the studies wherein complex herbal medications were studied. Next generation sequencing was performed using Illumina MiSeq system, and gut microbiota analysis was performed using QIIME and Ribosomal Database Project (RDP). In most studies, the herbal medicines exerted regulatory effects on gut microbiota and improved the symptoms of the experimental groups. Conclusions This review provides basic data on the correlation between korean medicine and gut microbiota, as well as information for the development of korean medicine.
Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the experimental studies which was performed by single or complex herbal medicines on hypothyroidism. Methods I searched the domestic experimental studies about single or complex herbal medicines’ effects on hypothyroidism that published since 2000 on 4 Korean databases by keywords, ‘thyroid gland’, ‘hypofunction’, ‘hypothyroidism’.Results 11 single herbal medicines and 9 complex herbal medicines in 20 experimental studies have reported their effectiveness and safetiness in PTU-induced hypothyroidism rats by evaluating the changes of several biochemical and hematological indexes. Conclusions In order to make new and more effective medicines on hypothyroidism, there should be further studies by using combinations of herbal medicines and the differences of their mechanisms.

Methods: We analyzed the experimental studies of herbal medicines done in Korea to treat hyperthyroidism that have been reported since 2000 by searching 4 Korean databases with the keyword "hyperthyroidism". Results: Two single herbal medicines and 15 complex herbal medicines were used in 15 experimental studies. There was 1 clinical study and 14 nonclinical studies, among them, 2 in vitro experiments and 12 in vivo experiments. It was confirmed that the herbal medicines used have improving effects on hyperthyroidism by inhibiting the oversupplied thyroid hormones and hypermetabolic symptoms. Conclusions: There should be further studies on the antioxidative effects and acting mechanisms of herbal medicines and more clinical studies on hyperthyroidism.
Objectives The goal of this review is to investigate clinical and experimental studies on external application treatment for atopic dermatitis in Korean literature and to propose for the better method of clinical studies in order to seek more effective treatment. Methods Electronic researches were performed with KTKP, OASIS, National Assembly Library, Korean Medicine Database, KISS, DBpia, and KISTI. Results and Conclusions In Twenty six studies, the numbers of clinical and experimental studies are respectively 10 (38.46%) and 16 (61.54%). The numbers of studies that used herbal complex were 20 (76.92%), and out of that, 6 studies had used a single herbal medicine (23.08%). The external application with oriental medicine for the atopic dermatitis used with Phellodendri Cortex (7), Sophorae Radix (6), Scutellariae Radix (6), Lonicerae Flos (5), Coptidis Rhizoma (5) and so on. Among the clinical studies, the 5 studies were double-blind and randomized-controlled study (50%). The numbers of studies that used Hanifin and Rajka Diagnostic Criteria (1980) were 6 (60%), and that used the Diagnostic Criteria in Korean Atopic Dermatitis (2005) were 4 (40%). Among the clinical studies, categories to evaluate of atopic dermatitis are respectively SCORAD Index (80%), Total IgE (80%), Eosinophil count (70%) and so on. All of the clinical studies (100%) showed a statistically significant decline in atopic dermatitis according to the SCORAD Index, Modified SCORAD Index, the Clinic index score. Among the experimental studies, the numbers of studies that used NC/Nga mice were 9 (56.25%), and out of that 5 studies used BALB/c mice (31.25%). Most of the studies (68.75%) used DNCB as allergy inducing materials. The scales for evaluation of atopic dermatitis were Clinical skin severity score, Histopathologic examination, Immunohematologic examination, safety test and so on. In 12 cases (75%) of experimental studies, the IgE level of experimental group showed a statistically significant decline after using external application. In 8 study cases (50%), Clinical skin severity score of experimental group showed a statistically significant decline after using external application.
The purposes of this study were 1) to identify patterns and trends of studies of anxiety and stress and 2) to provide direction on which to base further research. Research studies of anxiety and stress were selected from journals of medical and nursing schools, the Korean Nurse, the Korean Nurses' Academic Society Journal, the Central Journal of Medicine, the New Medical Journal, Monthly Nurse, and from theses and dissertations, which had been conducted for the 20 years from 1970 to 1990. The total population of the studies numbered 463. Seven studies were excluded from the analysis because of duplication, so that 252 studies of anxiety and 204 of stress were analyzed. These studies were analyzed for 1) time of publication or presentation, 2) research design, 3) characteristics of subjects used in each study, 4) types of correlated variables, and 5) types of nursing interventions. Findings obtained in the study were as follows : 1. The number of studies related to anxiety and stress has increased rapidly since the early 1980's. 2. The studies were primarily descriptive throughout the 20 years. However, correlational studies, comparative studies and experimental studies slowly increased. 3. Anxiety studies tend to be conducted more on patients and stress studies with normal subjects in non - experimental research. However, experimental studies were conducted more with patients than with normal subjects. 4. In correlational studies, the trend was to study physical conditions in relation to anxiety, and coping and adaptation in relation to stress. 5. In experimental studies, teaching and information therapy and relaxation were the most popular interventions for anxiety, and supportive care for stress. On the bases of these findings, the following recommendations were made : 1. These patterns of studies related to anxiety and stress in Korea need to be compared with studies conducted in other countries. 2. More attention is needed in terms of research design, reliability and validity of tools, and results of statistical analysis. 3. Meta -analysis should be done to analyze and integrate the results of various studies. 4. For theory testing and identification of useful intervention methods, experimintal studies with the same protocols must be conducted rather than more descriptive studies.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to explore the antitumor mechanism and effects of tetrodotoxin through a literature review of experimental and clinical studies. Methods : Medical databases, including The Cochrane Library, Pubmed, NDSL, RISS4u and National Assembly Library, were searched for relevant articles published from January 1, 2000 to October 31, 2014 using the keywords 'tetrodotoxin', 'cancer' and 'tumor'. The results were classified into experimental studies(in vitro and in vivo) and clinical studies. Analysis of the results was conducted on several research areas including the mechanism, antitumor effect and adverse effects of tetrodotoxin(TTX). Results : A total of 34 experimental studies(32 in vitro and 2 in vivo) and 3 clinical studies were found in the search. Most of the experimental studies suggested blocking of voltage-gated sodium channels in metastasis of tumor cells as the main antitumor mechanism of TTX. The most common type of cancers mentioned in the experimental studies were prostate and breast cancer. All of the clinical studies were on the application of TTX on moderate to severe cancer-related pain. No adverse effects of TTX were reported in in vivo studies but mild to moderate adverse events were reported in clinical studies. Conclusions : The results show that tetrodotoxin, which is the main component of Tetraodontidae(commonly known as pufferfish) poison, could be clinically used for antitumor therapy. However, further studies should be conducted on its safety.
