Korean Divorced Mothers' Experiences with Child Support from Noncustodial Fathers

  • The purpose of this study was to explore Korean divorced mothers' experiences with child support. The data were collected from 17 Korean divorced mothers who were divorced between the years of 2004 and 2009 and were raising at least one minor child. Data were analyzed based on the inductive data analysis method. Most mothers negotiated to receive child support from noncustodial fathers without experiencing much conflict with the fathers at the time of the divorce, but only five mothers received child support at the time of the interviews. The mothers experienced difficulties in receiving child support from the fathers under the child support policy in Korea that treated child support as a personal issue and provided little systemic support for child support. Regarding required parenting agreements, most of the mothers acknowledged the need to have parenting agreements but they still wanted voluntary payment of the child support from the fathers. The results suggest that it is necessary to expand parenting education for divorced parents to encourage voluntary participation in parenting and to improve the child support policy by introducing child support guidelines and enhancing child support collection systems.

Segmentation of Rural Tourist by Benefit Sought in the Post COVID-19 (포스트 코로나 시대의 추구편익에 따른 농촌관광 시장세분화 연구)

  • This study aims to segment the rural tourists markets according to benefits sought after the COVID-19 outbreak. Data were collected from 284 usable visits in 20 rural tourism village. Results show that it was classified into three clusters from factor-cluster analysis, The first cluster was 'negative participation type', and the overall pursuing benefit factor was low. The second cluster was 'complex pursuit type', and all the pursuing benefit factors were higher than the average. The third cluster was 'experience-seeking type', and the benefits of pursuing rural experiences, special experiences, and intimacy were high. Each cluster showed differences in educational background, age, residential area, type of visit, awareness, satisfaction, and behavioral intention of rural tourism villages.

Factors Affecting Participation Intention of Urban Agriculture : Focusing on the Combination of Pine II & Gilmore and Schmitt's Experiential Economy Theory (도시농업 참여 의도에 영향을 미치는 요인 : Pine II and Gilmore 이론과 Schmitt 이론의 결합을 중심으로)

  • In the recent COVID-19 pandemic, urban agriculture is attracting attention as a healing concept. In 2020, 1,848,000 people participated in urban agriculture activities in Korea. Therefore, this study was conducted to empirically analyze the factors affecting the intention to participate in urban agriculture, which is rapidly increasing. The theoretical basis of this study is the experiential economy theory of Pine II and Gilmore and the experiential theory of Schmitt. As independent variables, a total of five variables were set as the four elements of Pine II and Gilmore's experiential economy theory, namely, educational, entertainment, escapist, and aesthetic experiences, and relational experience reclassified using Schmitt's theory. Interest was set as a mediating variable between these independent variables and the dependent variable, intention to participate in urban agriculture. For empirical analysis, data were collected through a survey. Based on the significant 314 samples of the collected data, the hypothesis was tested through statistical analysis. First, as a result of testing the influence relationship between the independent and dependent variables, educational, entertainment, and escapist experiences had a significant positive (+) effect on the intention to participate in urban agriculture. The impact of the influence was in the order of entertainment experience, escapist experience, and educational experience. There was no significant influence relationship between aesthetic experience, relational experience and intention to participate in urban agriculture. On the other hand, as a result of this study, interest introduced as a mediating variable was found to play a mediating role between entertainment, escapist, aesthetic experiences and intention to participate in urban agriculture. The mediating effect of interest was not tested between educational, relational experiences and intention to participate in urban agriculture. This study approached urban agriculture participation from the concept of healing and analyzes the factors affecting participation in urban agriculture activities empirically based on a theoretical framework by combining and analyzing the representative Pine II and Gilmore theories and Schmitt theories. It had academic significance. In addition, it was meaningful to suggest that the healing concept approach is directional in relation to urban agriculture by revealing that entertainment and escapist experiences are important influencing variables in decision-making to participate in urban agriculture in practice.

Study on the Experiences of Preservice Teacher in Early Childhood Education on Learning Content in English (예비유아교사의 영어 전공수업 경험에 관한 연구)

  • This study explored what Korean college students, especially preservice teacher in early childhood education, experienced and how they constructed the meanings of experiences about their subject- matter course (early childhood mathematics education) taught in English. One cohort- 20 senior students- majoring in early childhood education in a 4-year university was participated in this study. Using action research method and narrative research method, data were analyzed. The findings were as follows: 1) preservice teacher experienced some difficulties to construrct professional knowledge through English. 2) They challenged to overcome these difficulties through active participation. 3) They got supports from instructor and peer group. 4) They accomplished the course with self-satisfaction. 5) They experienced the conflicts between social requirements and personal needs.

Resident Participation in International Surgical Missions is Predictive of Future Volunteerism in Practice

  • Background Interest in global health and international mission trips among medical student and resident trainees is growing rapidly. How these electives and international mission experiences affect future practice is still being elucidated. No study has identified if participation in international surgical missions during residency is a predictor of participation in international surgical missions in practice after training completion. Methods All trainees of our plastic surgery residency program from 1990 to 2011, during the implementation of optional annual international surgical missions, were surveyed to determine if the graduate had gone on a mission as a resident and as a plastic surgeon. Data were compared between graduates who participated in missions as residents and graduates who did not, from 1990 to 2011 and 1990 to 2007. Results Of Plastic Surgery graduates from 1990 to 2011 who participated in international missions as residents, 60% participated in missions when in practice, versus 5.9% of graduates participating in missions in practice but not residency (P<0.0001). When excluding last 5 years, graduates participating in international missions in practice after doing so as residents increases to 85.7%, versus 7.41% who participate in practice but not residency P<0.002. Conclusions Results reveal plastic surgeons who participate in international surgical missions as residents participate in international surgical missions in practice at higher rates than graduates who did not participate in missions during residency. International missions have significant intrinsic value both to trainee and international communities served, and this opportunity should be readily and easily accessible to all plastic surgery residents nationwide.

A Qualitative Study on the Teachers' Professional Learning Communities (교사의 전문성 개발을 위한 학습모임에 관한 질적 연구)

  • Professionalizing the teaching workforce has been recognized as one of the primary factors to reforming public education. In response to this challenge, it has been emphasized that an educational leader's role is to support professional learning communities more effectively. Although the academia of educational administration has increasingly drawn the significance of a teacher's professional development, understanding of an educational leader's role and contribution to this effort is quite limited and unclear. This article examines what factors and barriers affect teachers' participation in professional learning communities from the voices and experiences of teachers. The analysis found 1) identification, 2) autonomous will, 3) practical solution for factors to participation and 1) lack of theoretical foundation, 2) financial burden, 3) insufficient time for barriers to participation. In conclusion, the author suggests the strategies for an educational leader who has an important role in developing a teacher's professionalism: 1) create a strong network of university professors and other experts for career advice, 2) make an institutional effort to stimulate teachers' motivation to learn; 3) decrease the teachers' workload, 4) build a synthesized and consolidated system to establish communities.

Study on the behavioral model of co-creation by customers (고객의 공동가치창출 행태 모형 연구)

  • The main objective of this study is to provide the behavioral model of co-creation by customers and explorer influential factors of participation from the customer's perspective. To achieve the research goals, we employed grounded theory and conducted intensive interviews of 8 customers who had writing product reviews experiences with Beauty Net. The study results indicate that the most important influential factors of participation from the customer's perspective are: (1) Co-creation platform; (2) Co-creation policy; and (3) Individual characteristics.

A Study on the Consciousness of Rural Community Residents' Environment Preservation (농촌지역주민의 환경보전 의식구조에 관한 연구)

  • The objectives of this study were: (a) to measure the level of rural community residents' environmental preservation consciousness, (b) to identify the variables related to their level of environmental preservation consciousness, and (c) to provide suggestions to improve their environmental preservation consciousness. The major findings of this study were as follows; 1) Personal characteristics- gender, years of education, age, and income- were related to the rural communities residents' the environmental preservation consciousness. 2) Social characteristics- membership in environmental organizations, participation in environmental preservation campaigns, environmental dispute within their communities, experiences of participation in environmental dispute in their communities, participation in environmental education-were related to the rural community residents' the environmental preservation consciousness. Based on the above findings, the following suggestions are offered: 1) To improve rural community residents' environmental preservation consciousness, residents in rural community should be motivated and encouraged to participate in environmental and agriculture-related organizations. 2) To effectively solve environmental disputes among rural community residents and between rural communities, central and local governments should provide opportunities for rural residents to acquire their sound environmental consciousness. 3) Environmental preservation consciousness should be assessed including affective domain, cognitive domain, and behavioral domain. Appropriate environmental education programs should be developed after considering rural residents' personal characteristics including education level, income, gender, years of residency, and are.

Exploring the Meaning of Participation in a Teacher Learning Community for the Implementation of a Play-Centered Curriculum (유아교사의 놀이중심 교육과정 실행을 위한 교사학습공동체 참여의 의미 탐색)

  • Objective: A teacher learning community was developed in order to implement a play-centered curriculum at a child care center, and teachers' experiences during the process were explored. Methods: The teacher learning community was carried out for a total of 23 sessions. One researcher and six teachers participated in this study. Data including the transcripts of recordings of the teacher learning community, transcripts of individual teachers' interview recordings, teachers' reflective journals, and social media posts were collected. Data were analyzed according to the qualitative data analysis procedure. Results: The teachers recognized their experiences of the teacher learning community as follows: (1) encouraging and empowering each other to find a way together, (2) self-reflection, communication and sharing with experiences, (3) becoming a teacher who practices change. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study show the importance and effectiveness of managing the teacher learning community in a way that teachers interact with each other in a collaborative manner within the community based on initiative and spontaneity, and to provide help to each other in the process of understanding and practicing the play-centered curriculum. The teacher learning community supports the professionalism of teachers for the practice of a play-centered curriculum.

The Effects of Personality Traits on Subjective Well-being and Behavioral Intention Associated with Serious Leisure Experiences

  • The study examined how the personality traits, manifested during serious leisure experience, i.e., experiences that involve the acquisition of special knowledge or techniques and the participation required to achieve the expertise necessary to express them. This study also investigated how such subjective well-being affected behavioral intention, specifically, the intention to use the same leisure facilities again and to spread this information to acquaintances by positive word of mouth. A survey was administered to 727 research subjects selected from pre-registered panels enrolled by an online research organization. The main constructs examined in this study were measured on 5-point Likert scales using multiple items. A structural equation model was employed to verify the proposed conceptual model and the relationships among variables. The results revealed that, of the personality traits, participants high in extraversion, openness to experience, and agreeableness felt high levels of life satisfaction and positive affect, i.e. a sense of subjective well-being. Second, users who felt a high level of subjective well-being, specifically, high life satisfaction and positive affect, also indicated a high level of behavioral intention. Finally, the academic and practical implications and limitations of the study, as well as future research plans involving the personality traits underlying serious leisure experiences are discussed.
