대학생의 자아분화, 자아존중감과 정신건강간의 관계 - 우울, 불안을 중심으로 (A Study on Relationships among University Students' Self-differentiation, Self-esteem and Mental Health : Focused on Depression and Anxiety)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine relationships among university students' self-differentiation, self-esteem and mental health. The subjects were 400 students of four universities in Busan and Gyungnam area. A questionnaire survey was done. The results of this study are as follows : First, the levels of university students' self-differentiation and self-esteem were high. Second, university students' self-differentiation and self-esteem were correlated positively. Third, the levels of university students' depression and anxiety were relatively low. It showed that the subjects' mental health of this study were not bad. Fourth, depression had no significant difference by gender. However, female students had higher anxiety than male students had. Fifth, university students' self-differentiation and self-esteem had negative correlation with depression and anxiety, and self-esteem played a role of mediating variable between self-differentiation and mental health. Sixth, family projection, family regression and self integration of self-differentiation had indirect influence upon the students' mental health through self-esteem, while cognitive-emotional function had direct influence upon mental health and had indirect influence upon mental health through self-esteem as well. In this study, university students' self-differentiation and self-esteem were found to be important variables having influence upon mental health, and self-differentiation had indirect influence upon mental health through self-esteem. Counselling intervention strategies should be established considering self-differentiation and self-esteem of the students who complained about their maladjusted emotion and human relation problems at schools. Also, programs enhancing self-differentiation and self-esteem of university students should be developed and the execution of these programs will be needed to help the university students who experienced mental health problems such as depression, anxiety and so on.

위장암 환자의 삶의 질에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Factors Influencing Quality of Life in Patients with Gastrointestinal Neoplasms)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing quality of life after analyzing the relationship between depression, health promotion and quality of life in patients with gastrointestinal neoplasms. Methods: The subjects of this study were 63 people who underwent treatments from 2 general hospitals in Seoul and Daejeon and had no recurrence in stages I & II of gastrointestinal neoplasms. Data was collected from March 1 to April 30, 2006. A questionnaire consisting of Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D), Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP II) and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Colorectal (FACT-C) was given. The collected data was analyzed with the SPSS program which was used for descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficients and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) There was a significant relationship between depression (r=-.639, p=.000), health promotion (r=.407, p=.001) and quality of life. 2) Significant factors were depression (F=-4.091, p=.000) and health promotion (F=2.375, p=.021) that explained 46% of quality of life (F=10.022, p=.000). Conclusion: Cancer patients experienced extreme depression which led to a negative effect on quality of life. Health promotion was an important variable to the quality of life and it gave the patients motivation for having a will and belief for better health.

중환자실 퇴원 환자의 불안, 우울, 외상 후 스트레스 장애 유병률 및 위험요인 (Prevalence and Risk Factors of Anxiety, Depression, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Critical Care Survivors)

  • Purpose : This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and risk factors of mental health problems in patients discharged from the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods : This was a secondary analysis study using data from a multicenter prospective cohort of post-ICU patients. We analyzed data of 311 patients enrolled in the primary cohort study who responded to the mental health questionnaire three months after the discharge. Anxiety and depression were measured on the Hospital Anxiety-Depression Scale, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was measured on the Posttraumatic Diagnostic Scale. Results : The prevalence of anxiety, depression, and PTSD in patients at three months after ICU discharge were 25.7%, 17.4%, and 18.0%, respectively, and 7.7% of them experienced all three problems. Unemployment (OR=1.99, p=.033) and unplanned ICU admission (OR=2.28, p=.017) were risk factors for depression, while women gender (OR=2.34, p=.009), comorbid diseases (OR=2.88, p=.004), non-surgical ICUs (trauma ICU: OR=7.31, p=.002, medical ICU: OR=3.72, p=.007, neurological ICU: OR=2.95, p=.019) and delirium (OR=2.89, p=.009) were risk factors for PTSD. Conclusion : ICU nurses should proactively monitor risk factors for post-ICU mental health problems. In particular, guidelines on the detection and management of delirium in critically ill patients should be observed.

간호대학생의 우울 및 사회불안이 행복에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Depression and Social Anxiety on Happiness of Nursing Students)

  • 본 연구는 간호대학생의 우울과 사회불안이 행복에 미치는 영향요인을 규명하기 위해 실시하였다. 연구대상자는 간호대학생 316명으로 2018년 10월부터 11월까지 자료수집하였다. 자료분석은 기술통계, t-test, One-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, 다중회귀분석을 이용하였다. 연구결과는 행복과 우울, 사회불안은 부적관계, 행복에 우울과 사회불안이 부적영향이 있었다. 이러한 결과에 의해 간호대학생의 행복증진을 위해 간호대학생이 경험하는 우울, 사회불안을 감소하기 위한 방안마련이 필요하다. 향후 간호대학생의 행복 영향요인을 보다 다양한 요인과 환경을 고려한 탐색적 연구가 계속적으로 되어야 할 것이다.

청소년들의 우울 및 자살관련 행태와 스마트폰 사용과의 관련성 (The association of depression and suicidal behaviors with smartphone use among Korean adolescents)

  • Objectives: This study aims to examine the association of depression, suicidal behaviors with smartphone use behaviors among Korean adolescents. Methods: We analyzed data from 'Youth Health and Life Skills Survey' in 2013. The survey was based on self-reported questionnaires distributed to 915 grade 7th and 8th students at four middle schools in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, Korea in 2013 to evaluate the effects of 'Youth Health and Life Skills' program. Depression and suicidal behaviors were measured in terms of the experience rate, and smartphone use behaviors were measured with average hours of smartphone use a day and overindulged behaviors in smartphone use by using 5-point Likert scales. We examined the association of depression and suicidal behaviors with smartphone use behaviors by using t-test and regression analyses. Results: 21.5% of respondents have ever felt depressed or hopeless to lose interest in school life almost everyday for 2 weeks or longer in the past year. The experience rate of suicidal ideation, suicide plan, and suicidal attempt were 21.1%, 6.1%, and 5.7%, respectively. The mean of average hours of smartphone use a day was 3.9 hours, and the mean score of overindulged behaviors in smartphone use was 2.99. The students who have experienced depression and suicidal behaviors were more likely to have more smartphone using time and higher scores of overindulged behaviors in smartphne use than those who have not. Conclusion: We concluded that for preventing addictive or problematic smartphone use behaviors among adolescents we should consider and develop more positive strategies for the moderate use of smartphone than regulatory measures, which include the implementation of skill-based health education program including life skills at schools and the development of smartphone applications useful for resolving mental stress and promoting mental health.

학교 밖 청소년의 부정적 사건 경험이 우울과 충동성을 이중매개로 비행에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Negative Life Events on Delinquency through a Dual-mediation of Depression and Impulsivity among Out-of-school Adolescents)

  • 본 연구는 학교 밖 청소년의 부정적 사건 경험이 우울과 충동성을 이중매개로 비행에 미치는 영향의 규명을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 학업중단 청소년 패널에서 1차 조사 당시 학업중단 상태였던 청소년 표본을 대상으로 PROCESS macro for SPSS의 모델 6을 활용하여 부정적 사건 경험이 비행에 미치는 직접적 영향뿐만 아니라 우울과 충동성을 통한 매개 및 이중매개효과를 분석하였다. 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학교 밖 청소년의 부정적 사건 경험은 비행에 유의미한 정적 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 학교 밖 청소년의 우울은 부정적 사건 경험이 비행에 미치는 영향을 매개하지 않았다. 셋째, 학교 밖 청소년의 충동성은 부정적 사건 경험이 비행에 미치는 영향을 매개했다. 넷째, 학교 밖 청소녀의 우울과 충동성은 부정적 사건 경험이 비행에 미치는 영향을 이중매개했다. 이상의 연구 결과를 기반으로 부정적 사건을 경험한 학교 밖 청소년의 비행을 예방하기 위한 다양한 개입 전략에 대하여 논의하였다.

A comparative study of the psychological impacts of tasks related and unrelated to COVID-19 on nurses: a cross-sectional study

  • Background: This study assessed the psychological impact of the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on university hospital nurses. It provides an assessment of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, distress, and burnout of nurses dealing directly and indirectly with COVID-19. Methods: In a web-based, cross-sectional study, 111 nurses from Daegu Catholic University Hospital in Korea were enrolled from August 4 to August 9, 2020. Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7, Impact of Event Scale-Revised, and Maslach Burnout Inventory were used to assess the psychological symptoms of depression, anxiety, psychological distress, and burnout among the study participants. Results: Of 111 nurses, 35 (31.5%), nine (8.1%), 26 (23.4%), and 49 (44.1%) experienced depression, anxiety, distress, and burnout, respectively. Nurses who performed COVID-19-related tasks were more likely to have moderate depression (related vs. unrelated, 52.0% vs. 25.6%; p=0.037). There were no differences in anxiety, distress, and burnout between nurses with and without COVID-19-related tasks. More than 50% of the participants showed receptive and positive attitudes toward caring for COVID-19 patients. Conclusion: Nurses who performed COVID-19-related tasks had a higher risk of depression. There were no significant differences in anxiety, distress, and burnout between the two groups. Since nurses who perform COVID-19-related tasks are more prone to psychological distress, continued psychiatric interventions are required for infectious disease outbreaks with a high mortality rate for healthcare workers who are emotionally vulnerable.

레베드 요법(Lebed Therapy)이 간호사의 우울, 불안과 스트레스에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Lebed Method Exercise on Nurses' Depression, Anxiety, and Stress)

  • Purpose: This study was aimed to investigate the effects of Lebed method exercise (LME) on nurses' depression, anxiety and stress. The LME is a therapeutic exercise and movement program developed by Sherry Lebed Davis and expected to lessen the stress level of nurses and enhance the nursing job's satisfaction and efficiency. This study was utilized a non equivalent control group pre-post test design. Method: The subjects were 36 nurses in total; 18 in experimental group and 18 in control group. The data were collected from March to August, 2008. For the experimental group, 8 hour-long lectures on stress management and LME were given for 12 weeks. For the control group, only lectures on stress management was given. Depression, anxiety, perceived stress, and heart rate variability were measured on the subjects in both groups as pre- and post tests. The data were analyzed by Kolmogrov-Smirov test and P-P plot, t-test and $x^2-test$ using the SPSS program. Results: As proposed in the hypothesis, the subjects in the experimental group experienced less depression (t=2.286, p=.029), less anxiety (t=3.319, p=.002) and less perceived stress(t=2.862, p=.007) than those in the control group. Conclusion: The LME is considered an effective exercise to improve depression, anxiety, and to lessen stress for the nurses. The LME program has potential to be one of the effective stress management interventions for nurses in the future.

Association Between Depressed Mood Changes and Physical Activity Among Adolescents Post COVID-19 Pandemic

  • Objectives: Following the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, adolescents have experienced decreased physical activity and a decline in mental health. This study analyzed the association between changes in depressed mood after the COVID-19 pandemic and physical activity among adolescents. Methods: The analysis was based on the results of the 17th Youth Health Behavior Online Survey conducted in 2021, which included 54848 middle and high school students in South Korea. Information on physical activity included low-intensity physical activity lasting >60 min/day, high-intensity physical activity, and strength training exercises. A logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the association between physical activity and changes in depression after the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: After adjusting for sociodemographic characteristics and previous depression, adolescents who performed strength training exercises more than once per week had a 0.95-fold lower risk (odds ratio [OR]=0.948, 95% confidence interval [CI]=0.905-0.994, p=0.027) of increasing depression after the COVID-19 pandemic, while the risk of decreasing depression increased by 1.22-fold (OR=1.215, 95% CI=1.131-1.305, p<0.001). The results were not significant for low-intensity physical activity for >60 min/day and high-intensity physical activity. Conclusion: Strength-training exercises are significantly associated with the prevention of depression among adolescents following the COVID-19 pandemic.

만성질환관리와 정신건강과의 관련성 (The Relevance of Chronic Disease Management and Mental Health)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 만19세 이상의 성인을 대상으로 만성질환에 대한 관리적 특성인 질환진단, 치료, 교육, 신체활동, 일상생활활동이 정신건강(스트레스인지, 우울증상경험, 자살생각경험여부)과의 관련성과 영향을 주는 요인을 분석한다. 연구대상은 국민건강영양조사 2010년도 제5기 1차년도 19세 이상 6,227명의 원시데이터를 활용하였다. 일반적 특성에 따른 정신건강과의 관련성을 분석한 결과 연구대상자들 6,227명중 스트레스를 느낌 84.8%, 우울증상경험 있음 13.2%, 자살생각경험 있음 15.1% 이었다. 스트레스인지는 연령이 낮을수록, 배우자가 있는 경우, 교육수준이 높을수록, 주관적 건강상태가 나쁠수록, 우울증상경험은 성별은 남자보다 여자가, 연령은 19-54세, 교육수준이 낮을수록, 주관적 건강상태가 나쁠수록, 당뇨병에 관한 교육을 받지 않은 경우, 신체활동을 4일 이상 하는 경우. 자살생각경험여부는 성별은 여자가, 배우자가 없는 경우, 교육수준이 낮을수록, 주관적 건강상태가 나쁠수록, 신체활동을 전혀 하지 않는 경우 영향을 주었다. 만성질환자들에게 의학적인 치료를 제공하는 방안에 대해서만 관심을 가질 것이 아니라 정신건강에도 깊은 관심을 가지고 심리적인 치료를 병행할 수 있는 정책적인 지원이 제공된다면 이들이 보다 건강한 삶을 영위하는데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
