  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences in biomechanical variables of golf driving motion according to gender. Method: A total of 21 healthy golfers (11 men and 10 women) who have more than 5 years of professional experience and have been registered in the Korea Golf Association was recruited. A 250-Hz 8-camera motion capture system (MX-T20, Vicon, LA, USA) was used to capture the motion trajectories of a total of 42 reflective markers attached to the golfer's body and club. Moreover, two 1,000-Hz AMTI force plates (AMTI OR6-7-400, AMTI, MA, USA) were used to measure the ground reaction force. The mean and standard deviation for each parameter were then calculated for both groups of 21 subjects. SPSS Windows version 23.0 was used for statistical analysis. The independent t-test was used to determine the differences between groups. An alpha level of .05 was utilized in all tests. Results: There were differences in joint angles according to gender during golf driver swing. Men showed a statistically significantly higher peak joint angle and maximum range of angle in sagittal and frontal axis of the pelvis, hip, and knee. Moreover, women's swing of the pelvis and hips was found to have a pattern using the peak joint angle and range of angle in the vertical axis of the pelvis and hip. There were the differences in peak joint moment according to gender during golf driver swing. Men used higher joint moment in the downswing phase than women in the extensor, abductor, and external rotator muscles of the right hip; flexor and adductor muscles of left hip joint; and flexor and extensor muscles of the right knee. Conclusion: This result reveals that male golfers conducted driver swing using stronger force of the lower body and ground reaction force based on strength of hip and thigh than female golfers.

  • This study attempted to verify and examine the effect of screen golf course service quality on reuse. A total of 300 copies were distributed, and a total of 247 copies were used for analysis, excluding 53 questionnaires with poor responses or many missing questions. Based on these results, the following implications were derived. First, screen golf course users were mainly used by friends, acquaintances, and social groups, and information was obtained through human and Internet, and empathy and reliability among service quality affected the reuse of screen golf courses. When users experience high-quality services, they have high satisfaction and high service quality, and they can increase the probability of forming loyalty and recommending and promoting them to people around them. However, experiencing poor quality services can disappoint customers and leave negative comments on people around them, which reduces the likelihood of reuse. Therefore, in order to increase the reuse of golf courses, quality management, customer opinions and feedback must be accepted, and problems must be dealt with quickly to improve the quality of services and provide services that satisfy customers. Second, although the types, responsiveness, and certainty of sub-factors of screen golf course service quality were not significant in this study, management strategies should be used to increase survival in the highly competitive screen golf industry and reuse them by providing differentiated services.

  • The purpose of this study is to attempt to interpret golf courses as event-generating spaces with consideration given to the time factor. Through a golf game, a variety of events such as the tee shot, second shot, putt, and hole out are generated. These events have been connected to a series of events after hole out such as birdie, par, bogey and so on. The series of events do not always occur in the same way. They reveal unexpected changes over time. These unexpected changes cause changes in the spatial characteristics and offer unforgettable memories for golfers. Gilles Deleuze mentioned the spatial characteristics as striated space and smooth space. Striated space can be defined as sedentary space. It is distant vision-optical space that has dimensional, metric and centered characteristics, whereas smooth space is defined as nomadic, close vision-haptic space that has directional and acentered characteristics. This study focused on the analysis of spatial characteristics according to striated space and smooth space. Golf courses generally show the characteristics of striated space before beginning the game. As soon as the game begins, however, the golf courses are converted into an event-generating space. The characteristics of striated space are transformed into smooth space, a nomadic space that amplifies the dynamic, changeable, de-scaled and non-metric system. Through the whole game, this transformation is dramatically repeated. On the other hand, the golfer, the subject of the game, senses the phenomenological experience in the process of orientation, center, definition, and domestication.

  • Objective: This study proposes a methodology to analyze important variables that have a significant impact on the putting direction prediction using a machine learning-based putting direction prediction model trained with IMU sensor data. Method: Putting data were collected using an IMU sensor measuring 12 variables from 6 adult males in their 20s at K University who had no golf experience. The data was preprocessed so that it could be applied to machine learning, and a model was built using five machine learning algorithms. Finally, by comparing the performance of the built models, the model with the highest performance was selected as the proposed model, and then 12 variables of the IMU sensor were applied one by one to analyze important variables affecting the learning performance. Results: As a result of comparing the performance of five machine learning algorithms (K-NN, Naive Bayes, Decision Tree, Random Forest, and Light GBM), the prediction accuracy of the Light GBM-based prediction model was higher than that of other algorithms. Using the Light GBM algorithm, which had excellent performance, an experiment was performed to rank the importance of variables that affect the direction prediction of the model. Conclusion: Among the five machine learning algorithms, the algorithm that best predicts the putting direction was the Light GBM algorithm. When the model predicted the putting direction, the variable that had the greatest influence was the left-right inclination (Roll).

  • In this study, a class operation case of an engineering design project targeting a golf ball dispenser, a commercial product, was presented. The project was carried out according to the systematic engineering design approach suggested by Kim Jong-won and W. Beitz. This method broadly divides engineering design into four stages: 'product planning → conceptual design → basic design → detailed design'. In particular, the conceptual design stage is divided into 'functional structure diagram → detailed working principle exploration → various design alternatives creation → optimal design selection'. In the conceptual design, the input/output of the golf ball dispenser was defined and a functional structure diagram was prepared for it. Through this process, it was possible to subdivide the functions of the product and to easily explore the working principle for each. The searched working principles are devised as various design alternatives by various combinations, and for each proposal, the advantages and disadvantages were compared with each other to derive the optimal design alternative. In the basic design, the prototype layout was completed through failure mode analysis and the actual prototype was manufactured using it. Through the entire process, students participating in the class will be able to design commercial products in a systematic way and experience manufacturing prototypes within the department of mechanical engineering curriculum.
