  • This paper deals with the problem of determining the capacity expansion timing and sizes of conduits and feeder cables for a given cable network configuration of a single exchange ares, which minimizes the present worth of total costs. The planning horizon is infinite and the demand of line pairs at each cabinet is assumed to be determininstically growing. As a solution method, the heuristic branch-and-bound algorithm of Freidenfelds and Mclaughlin is elaborated by adding details and some minor modifications, which generates a good near-optimal solution with far less computation than would otherwise be possible. We also develop a computer program, which is shown to be effective and efficient through the test run of an illustrative example.

  • This paper includes a development of a starting time prediction model for a derivative engine. For this derivative engine design, a new map expansion method, Modified Pump Scaling Law(MPS), has been applied and expand the maps to sub-idle range. From loss characteristics of the reference engine, loss models for the derivative engine have been developed considering different pressure, temperature, and engine configurations. Starting time predictions of the derivative engine shows preferable results comparing test results.

  • A numerical simulation was conducted to analyze the interaction of flame and vortices. The characteristic scales of flame and vortices were limited in the thin laminar flamelet regime. Within this regime, flame is assumed as discontinuity surface and its motion in flow field was described by G-equation instead of full governing equations. Additional approximations include distribution of line volume sources on flame surface to simulate effect of volume expansion. Contrast to previous calculations, current study employed vortex transport equation to evaluate attenuation and smearing of vortices. Two extreme conditions of frozen vortex and frozen flame were considered to validate the current method. Comparison with direct numerical simulation resulted in satisfactory quantitative agreement with higher computational efficiency which warrants the usefulness of the present model in more complex situation.

  • This paper discusses the reliability of solder joints of electronic devices on printed circuit board. Solder application is usually done by screen printing method for the bonding between outer leads of devices and thick film(Ag/Pd) pattern on Hybrid IC as wel1 as Cu lands on PCB. As result of thermal stresses generated at the solder joints due to the differences of thermal expansion coefficients between packge body and PCB, Micro cracking often occurs due to thermal fatigue failure at solder joints. The initiation and the propagate of solder joint crack depends on the environmental conditions, such as storage temperature and thermal cycling. The principal mechanisms of the cracking pheno- mana are the formation of kirkendal void caused by the differences in diffusion rate of materials, ant the thermal fatigue effect due to the differences of thermal expansion coefficient between package body and PCB. Finally, This paper experimentally shows a way to supress solder joints cracks by using low-${\alpha}$ PCB and the packages with thin lead frame, and investigates the phenomena of diffusion near the bonding interfaces.

  • The primary factors that affecting concrete sulfate resistance are the chemistry of the Portland cement and the chemistryandreplacementlevelofmineraladmixtures. In order to investigate the effect of those on the sulfate attack the testing program involved the testing of several different mortar mixes using the standardized test, ASTM C 1012. four different cements were evaluated including one Type I cement, two Type I-II cements, and one Type V cement. Mortar mixes were also made with mineral admixtures as each cement was combined with three different types of mineral admixtures. One Class F fly ash and one Class C fly ash was added in various percent volumetric replacement levels. The expansion measurements of mortar bars were taken and compared with expansion criteria recommended from past experience to investigate the effect of each factor.

  • This paper is an introduction of pessimum program for the identification of alkali-silica reaction of alkali-aggregate reaction which is known as one of a major factor of concrete deterioration. A series of gel-pat testing program was undertaken to observe the reactivity of potentially alkali-silica reactive concrete aggregates which were found to be reactive by previous petrographic examination (ASTM C 295). And then a pessimum program was performed in accordance with mortar-bar test method (ASTM C 227) with different percentage of those reactive components included in the fine aggregate source to determine the pessimum quantity. Chert and quartzite were found to be major components of reactive mineral/rock, and the pessimum condition for chert was about 3%, even though the test was performed with up to 25% of the component. In the case of quartzite, however, the mortar-bar expansion appeared to be directly proportional to the amount of quartzite sample with increasing tested quantity up to 35%. Both of the expansion results were well 3 and 6 month specified maximum limitation of 0.05% and of 0.1% respectively.

  • In order to improve scavenging performance of free piston hydrogen fueled engine, this study estimate compatibility of uni-flow scavenging. The scavenging flow characteristics in the cylinder is investigated by flow visualization and PIV method. Consequently it has been found that the scavenging performance decreased with abnormal expansion of piston and delay of the exhaust valve opening timing. And the scavenging performance of exhaust valve located center in cylinder head is better than that of exhaust valve located side in cylinder head.

  • Previous works about the cylindrical shape elastic body which is under longitudinal temperature distribution mostly show the results of free expansion, therefore exact thermo-elastic analysis is needed. The object of this work is to analyze the thermo-elastic problem of the hollow cylinder when the cylinder is under longitudinal temperature distribution. In this paper, the analytical solution is found by using Galerkin vector, and it is compared by the results of FEM. For displacements of cylinder, analytical values are almost same as the results of FEM, but free expansion is not fit for analytical solution and the results of FEM. stresses from analytical solution and the results of FEM show good agreement also. but the results are different near the end boundary, since St. Venant principle is applied.

  • The three-dimensional integrated circuit (3D-IC) is a general trend for the miniaturized and high-performance electronic devices. The through-silicon-via (TSV) is the advanced interconnection method to achieve 3D integration, which uses vertical metal via through silicon substrate. However, the TSV based 3D-IC undergoes severe thermo-mechanical stress due to the CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) mismatch between via and silicon. The thermo-mechanical stress induces mechanical failure on silicon and silicon-via interface, which reduces the device reliability. In this paper, the thermo-mechanical reliability of TSV based 3D-IC is reviewed in terms of mechanical fracture, heat conduction, and material characteristic. Furthermore, the state of the art via-level and package-level design techniques are introduced to improve the reliability of TSV based 3D-IC.

  • Currently the train traffic control system is built wholly by one package construction. It is under variable circumstance such as variation of signalling equipment and station expansion. This condition reduces system reliability and availability. And the term of system change is longer than 10 years, so it is hard to update to the latest technology and the new function. In order to do the system should be replaced to new one completely. The step by step construction of ADS(Autonomous Decentralized System) is one of the solution. So the simulation of it on the real station help to find system requirement and verify good of online expansion and online test.
