  • It is very difficult to control the expansion of reed at a wetland ecological park due to their aggressive reproduction capability. Therefore, proper topography and wetland hydrology should be provided before the construction of a wetland ecological park. Appropriate measures should be taken at the initial stages to prevent reed expansion. Field experiments were conducted at the newly constructed wetland ecological park for 15 months to develop methods to control the reproduction and expansion of Phragmites communis. A complete shading method had the best effect on the prevention of reed reoccurrence among other methods. Complete removal of the rhizomes controlled the reed growth to a greater extent than cutting the aboveground shoots. Water-level manipulation was also better than a half-shading method for the prevention of reed reproduction. These results indicated that soil properties and edge effects can influence the reed growth. Cutting only the aboveground shoots facilitates the growth of reed. These results suggest that reed control should be implemented repeatedly and an alteration in the wetland topography and hydrology may be more effective in the long term. Combination of treatments such as water-level management with shading should be considered to control the growth of reed. Adoptive management for created or restored ecosystem might be considered for accomplishment of its original purpose.

  • Expandable steel pipe piles have been developed to ensure stability and reduce construction costs during underground floor remodeling and extension work. Expandable steel pipe piles are more economical and stable than micropiles. Extensible steel pipe pile is a method of improving the performance of steel pipes by expanding steel pipes underground. In this paper, the changes in buckling strength according to the shape of steel pipes in an extended steel pipe pile were identified, a numerical analysis model was developed to determine the expended part effect of bumps due to steel pipe expansion, and the optimal steel pipe expansion was calculated through material tests. The larger the expansion diameter of the steel pipe and the greater the number of expanded part, the greater the buckling strength. Numerical results showed that the number of expanded part has a greater effect on buckling strength than the expansion rate. When the expansion rate is more than 1.2 times, it can be seen that as the number of expanded part increases, the effect of increasing buckling strength increases significantly. It was also noted that the expanded part effect of the bumps occur significantly when the extension angle is less than 45° and the expansion rate is 1.3 times higher. When the steel pipe is failure, the expanded rate is 20 to 32%, averaging 25.4%. Through the material test, it was analyzed that it is desirable to limit the maximum expansion rate for performing steel pipes to 16%.

  • The narrow-down approach, separately composed of search and classification stages, is an effective way of dealing with large-scale hierarchical text classification. Recent approaches introduce methods of incorporating global, local, and path information extracted from web taxonomies in the classification stage. Meanwhile, in the case of utilizing path information, there have been few efforts to address existing limitations and develop more sophisticated methods. In this paper, we propose an expansion method to effectively exploit category path information based on the observation that the existing method is exposed to a term mismatch problem and low discrimination power due to insufficient path information. The key idea of our method is to utilize relevant information not presented on category paths by adding more useful words. We evaluate the effectiveness of our method on state-of-the art narrow-down methods and report the results with in-depth analysis.

  • This study is focused on the wave control by economical multi-rowed impermeable submerged breakwaters which need less materials than a one-rowed submerged breakwater. A boundary element method and eigenfunction expansion method based on the Green\`s theorem are appled to analyze the characteristics of wave transformation. Submerged breakwaters are consisted of one and two-row with rectangular section. Wave transformation characteristics are investigated by the various combinations of placement distance and crown water depth.

  • An acoustic topology optimization method is developed to optimize the acoustic attenuation capability of a muffler. The transmission loss of the muffler is calculated by using the three-point method based on finite element analysis. Each element of the finite element model is assumed to have the variable acoustic properties, which are penalized by a carefully-selected interpolation function to yield clear expansion chamber shapes at the end of topology optimization. The objective of the acoustic topology optimization problem formulated in this work is to maximize the transmission loss at a target frequency. The transmission loss value at a deep frequency of a nominal muffler configuration can be dramatically increased by the proposed optimization method. Optimal muffler configurations are also obtained for other frequencies.

  • The inherent strain method is known to be very efficient in predicting the deformation of steel plate by line heating. However, in the actual line heating process in shipyard, the rapid quenching changes the phase of steel. In this study, In order to consider additional effects under phase transformation, inherent strain regions were assumed to expand. Also, when calculating inherent strain, material properties of steel in heating and cooling are applied differently considering phase transformation. In this process, a new method which can reflect thermal volume expansion of martensite is suggested.8y the suggested method, it was possible to predict the plate deformations by line heating more precisely.

  • This paper suggests a new method discretization of nonlinear system using Taylor series expansion and zero-order hold assumption. This method is applied into the sampled-data representation of a nonlinear system with input time delay. Additionally, the delayed input is time varying and its amplitude is bounded. The maximum time-delayed input is assumed to be two sampling periods. Them mathematical expressions of the discretization method are presented and the ability of the algorithm is tested for some of the examples. And 'hybrid' discretization scheme that result from a combination of the ‘scaling and squaring' technique with the Taylor method are also proposed, especially under condition of very low sampling rates. The computer simulation proves the proposed algorithm discretized the nonlinear system with the variable time-delayed input accurately.

  • When widening or repairing concrete deck slab, there is a joint inevitably. However, joining-construction method have following problem, that is the additional stress in existing part of bridge resulting from the specific process of joining-construction and the difference of amount of shrinkage between new and existing bridge. On this study, compared shrinkage stress of the direct joining construction method with the indirect joining construction method, and concluded the proper substitution rate of expansion cement. The rate of replacement was proper at $10\%$. but more than $15\%$, concrete had excessive expansion and weeker compressive strength. The time of placing closure concrete, considering the shinkage stresses and creep, was suitable in $45\~60$ days after placing the new concrete deck slab.

  • This paper Introduces the concept of the generation cost of generating utilities and its calculation methods. Also, the economic evaluation method using generation cost which is called as a screening curve method will be presented along with the benefits and disadvantages of this concept. Next, the least-cost electric utility planning techniques which is used very widely in many countries will be Introduced In comparison with screening curve method. In this aspects, the optimal dynamic mix can be determined as a result. By comparing these two concepts, we will get the concrete concept why the economic evaluation method using generation cost can not be used for the future generation expansion planning.

  • In this study, respiratory motion is modeled by a 2-Dimensional linear expanding-shrinking movement. According to the introduced model, respiratory motion imposes phase error, non-uniform sampling and amplitude modulation distortions on the acquired MRI data. When the motion parameters are known or can be estimated, a reconstruction algorithm based on superposition method was used to removed the MRI artifact. For the purpose of estimating unknown motion parameters, we applied the spectrum shift method to find the respiratory fluctuation function, the x directional expansion coefficient and its center, and also we used the minimum energy method to find the y directional expansion coefficient and its center. The effectiveness of this presented method is shown by Computer simulations.
