Real-time Intelligent Exit Path Indicator Using BLE Beacon Enabled Emergency Exit Sign Controller

  • Emergency lights and exit signs are an indispensable part of safety precautions for effective evacuation in case of emergency in public buildings. These emergency sign indicates safe escape routes and emergency doors, using an internationally recognizable sign. However visibility of those signs drops drastically in case of emergency situations like fire smoke, etc. and loss of visibility causes serious problems for safety evacuation. This paper propose a novel emergency light and exit sign built-in with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Beacon to assist the emergency self-guiding evacuation using devices for crisis and emergency management to avoid panic condition inside the buildings. In this approach, the emergency light and exit sign with the BLE beacons deployed in the indoor environments and the smart devices detect their indoor positions, direction to move, and next exit sign position from beacon messages and interact with map server in the Internet / Intranet over the available LTE and/or Wi-Fi network connectivity. The map server generate an optimal emergency exit path according to the nearest emergency exit based on a novel graph generation method for less route computation for each smart device. All emergency exit path data interfaces among three system components, the emergency exit signs, map server, and smart devices, have been defined for modular implementation of our emergency evacuation system. The proposed exit sign experimental system has been deployed and evaluated in real-time building environment thoroughly and gives a good evidence that the modular design of the proposed exit sign system and a novel approach to compute emergency exit path route based on the BLE beacon message, map server, and smart devices is competitive and viable.

The Necessity of Introducing Fire Point Notification Displays in Complex Buildings to Reduce Required Safe Escape Time(RSET) (RSET 감소를 위한 복합건축물의 화재발생지점 알림표시등 도입 필요성)

  • In modern society, buildings are becoming more complex, and the population is becoming more densely populated. Such large buildings require a variety of evacuation measures, as there is a high possibility of large-scale human casualties due to increased evacuation distance and evacuation time in the event of a fire. Strobe light and exit sign light are used as important evacuation equipment to provide early warning and evacuation directions. In this thesis, we conducted a fire simulation assuming that a fire occurrence point notification function and a strobe light function were added to equipment such as visual alarms and evacuation guidance, and compared and analyzed the difference in evacuation completion time with existing equipment. The scenarios for the simulation were divided into "general fire situations" and "fire location and evacuation exit guidance situation" and the differences in evacuation completion time in the event of a fire were compared and analyzed for each floor from the 1st floor to the 3rd floor. The maximum travel distance to complete evacuation in the case of a fire on the first floor decreased by 80.6 m and the evacuation completion time decreased by 329.4 seconds, and the maximum travel distance to complete evacuation in the case of a second-floor fire decreased by 28.5 m and the evacuation completion time by 438.8 seconds. During the fire on the third floor, the maximum distance decreased until evacuation was completed to 3.4 m, and the evacuation completion time was reduced by 355.6 seconds. It is expected that if the congestion level of evacuation routes is reduced by utilizing the congestion level of evacuation exits when fire alarm systems and evacuation equipment are activated, the evacuation completion time will be further shortened and evacuations will be carried out quickly and safely.

  • This dissertation is focalized on examining research on the actual condition and problem in the exit-space-form of Multiplex Cinema and mutual relation of user and finding more efficient and reasonable project method through valuation of design elements which the user can feel. In result, 4 place which is newly opened after 1990's is analyzed in Seoul. It is researched that Many user feel inconvenience and discomfort when they recognize exit-space. In order to improve itthey want to feel at ease naturally with light-embeded sign and landscape space. The exit-space should be recognized that it is a part of cinema which have to be developed and planed for the inner part of cinema and security of user. Not death-space.

  • The latest hardware and software techniques are combined to give safe walking guidance and convenient service of realtime walking assistance system for visually impaired person. This system consists of obstacle detection and perception, place recognition, and sign recognition for pedestrian can safely walking to arrive at their destination. In this paper, we exploit the sign object detection system in subway station for sign recognition that one of the important factors of walking assistance system. This paper suggest the adaptive feature map that can be robustly extract the sign object region from complexed environment with light and noise. And recognize a sign using fast zernike moment features which is invariant under translation, rotation and scale of object during walking. We considered three types of signs as arrow, restroom, and exit number and perform the training and recognizing steps through adaboost classifier. The experimental results prove that our method can be suitable and stable for real-time system through yields on the average 87.16% stable detection rate and 20 frame/sec of operation time for three types of signs in 5000 images of sign database.

  • Most of the sign systems involved in evacuation are not useful in seismic situations where people have to evacuate with their heads bowed, given that they are at the top of the wall. Based on the analysis and understanding of seismic evacuation situations, this study proposes a sign system as a measure for rapid seismic evacuation. First, understand the seismic situation based on the video analysis of the earthquake evacuation situation. Second, the need for a sign system to help secure evacuation in earthquake situations was derived. Third, the on-site survey examined the suitability of the Sine system installed in Korea as an escape facility for the earthquake evacuation situation. Based on the video analysis and on-site survey, it was concluded that the installation of escape guidance lamps alone could not induce rapid evacuation in the earthquake situation. In this study, a sign system is proposed to help the use of doors by installing a sign system near an emergency exit light.

  • As modern buildings grow to become diversified, toxic gases and smoke coupled with characteristics of space during a fire increase the risk of large-scaled disaster. It is now urgent to take measures for evacuation and escape directly linked to personal damage. Existing fixed one-way emergency exit light is not enough for efficient evacuation and rescue. Therefore, to ensure quicker escape and evacuation during a fire, two-way radio data system should be devised, which linked with fire detector, helps people in danger to escape quickly and is able to control by a central control system, and the system was found to enhance the efficiency of escape and contribute to safer escape.

  • Currently, road mobility improved from the National Road Improvement. Nevertheless delineation system is facility that enhanced driver's safety, that was set up often inconsistent or nonexistent over the road exit ramp So it judged functional investigation will be necessary. This study suggested setting type of the delineation system. That was based on a field study and reviews the legal standard of it and considering driver's cognition behavior. For the study, make a 3D-simulation and so could objectively a comparative test. Comparison variable between delineation setting type is selected conspicuity and visibility. Cased that illustrated characteristics of driver's visual cognition behavior. The experiment was used Eye Marker Recorder for measure the gaze frequency more quantitatively and objectively. And used the ANOVA analysis for significance testing between delineation setting type. A significant percent of the conspicuity analyzed types(Safe mark, Obstacle Sign, Warning Light, and Tubular Maker) in road exit ramp for recognize. And gaze frequency that measure of effectiveness of visibility are measured. On the analysis result, the visibility was significance difference between delineation setting type and visibility of types was best.

A Study on Driver's Psychological Responses to VMS Traffic Information Using Driving Simulator (가상주행 실험을 통한 VMS 교통정보의 이용자 심리적 반응에 관한 연구)

  • The variable message sign(VMS) is a representative traffic information service medium which has the largest users and is provided and operated by a governmental agency. In this paper, we focused on psychological responses of individuals who use VMS traffic information in the light of the need for VMS to provide user-oriented service. A total of t재 scenarios were plotted to conduct our experiment on a virtual test track. A stress index analysis on VMS location, the first scenario, showed the lowest stress value at the point of 1.5 kilometers before the exit. A stress index analysis on the contents of VMS information (communication, time, and speed), the second scenario, showed the lowest stress value at time information.
