  • This paper is the third of several companion papers which compare the method of Air-Fuel ratio determination. In the previous works, Eltinge chart was expanded to arbitrary fuel composition as a reference exhaust composition. The compensation of unburned hydrocarbon in Eltinge chart and comparison of Spindt and Eltinge method were also discussed. In addition to Eltinge and Spindt's one, however, there are many methods which calculate Air-Fuel ratio from exhaust emission. Among these methods, carbon balance and oxygen balance are widely used in practice. In some applications, linear formula from statistical method is being used in the field due to its simplicity and convenience. In this paper, these various methods are evaluated and compared with Eltinge results and new linear formula is proposed for the gasoline fuel. The results show that the corrected carbon balance equation has excellent agreement with Eltinge and Spindt's one. On the other hands, the oxygen-balanced formula has a limitation according to the mixture state and AFR. For gasoline fuel, newly proposed linear equation has good compatibility with Eltinge and Spindt up to AFR 17.

  • Radioactivity of high concentrations have existed in the handling nuclear materials in hot cell of PIEF(Post Irradiation Examination Facility). The exhaust filtration system was enabled to process cylindrical filters by using a manipulator in the hot cell. By establishing a double filtration system with two filters, backup protection against leakage or failure of the first is provided by the second filter. Additionally, this a arrangement is arrange intended to increase the total filtration efficiency. The result of the pressure drop changing in the air flow of the cylindrical and HEPA filters is observed by a curved line. A filtering efficiency of more than 99.99% to $0.3{\mu}m$ particle appears in the upstream and downstream during the efficiency test on the HEPA filters. The V-pleats type had a lower pressure drop than the separator type. There was no damage during usage and was found to be suitable with high capacity of air volume. Therefore, by carrying out performance tests of the exhaust filtration system, efficiency and safety can be achieved.

  • The purpose of this work is to investigate the effect of premixing condition on the combustion and exhaust emission characteristics in a HCCI diesel engine. To from homogeneous charge before intake manifold, the premixed gasoline fuel is injected into a premixed tank by fuel injection system and the premixed gasoline fuel is ignited by direct injected diesel fuel. Experimental result shows the NOx and soot emissions are decreased linearly with the increase of premixed ratio. In the case of intake air temperature $20^{\circ}C$ with light load, the specific fuel consumptions are increased with the rise of premixed ratio and HC and CO emissions are also increased. But the intake air heating can improve the specific fuel consumption at light load condition because increased air temperature promotes the combustion of premixed mixture. In the case of high intake air temperature with high load condition, premixed fuel is auto-ignited before diesel combustion and soot emission is increased.

  • Because price of fossil fuel rises, necessity about alternative energy was risen. Studied co-combustion of RPF to coal fluid bed boiler by necessity of these althernative energy. Purpose of this study to coal fluid bed bioler RPF when did co-combustion, change operating condition and characteristic of air pollutant examine according to change of fuel characteristic, operating condition examined about combustion chamber temperature, oxygen content etc. and air pollutant examined about material that is included to allowable exhaust standard and dioxin. Co-combustion condition was 5%. It was no peculiar under test result operating condition. Concentration of Co and HCl rose according as do RPF co-combustion and the other pollutants had hardly changed. Dioxin is low concentration level more than $0.1ng-TEQ/Sm^3$. There was no pollutant that exceed akllowable exhaust standard for boiler but $SO_x,\;NO_x$ were exceeded about allowable exhaust standard for incinerating facility.

  • In order to control indoor air quality and save energy, it is needed to install a suitable ventilation system equipped with heat exchanger for heat recovery. Paper heat exchanger can recover $50{\sim}70%$ of the enthalpy difference between supply and exhaust air. The purpose of this research is to obtain the experimental correlations for the friction factor, heat transfer coefficient, mass transfer coefficient and permeance of paper heat exchanger, which can be used to predict the performance of the paper heat exchanger. Pressure drops at various velocities, and sensible and latent heat transfer rates at various dry-bulb temperatures, relative humidities and specific humidities are measured to derive experimental correlations. The results of prediction using correlations show fairly good agreement with the experimental data obtained in the actual operating conditions.

  • As the air pollution caused by diesel vehicles goes worse, so non-road vehicles exhaust gas standard is strict in an foreign countries. In this paper, we calculate the amount of emission rates from Korean railroad lines and train kinds. Air pollutants emissions are calculated using by US EPA baseline in-use emission rates which is divided line-haul and switch mode. The calculated HC emissions on the railroad diesel vehicles are 1,209.1 t from Korean railroad lines.

  • The vehicle emissions of primary air pollutants are described by the emission factor (EF), defined as the emitted mass (g) of a compound per distance (km) and vehicle. The EF can be determined by exhaust measurements from single vehicles in dynamometric tests. However, the EF of a large number of vehicles has to be measured to obtain the representative results for actual road traffic emissions. Road traffic emissions can also be determined by exhaust measurements of driving vehicles or in tunnel measurements. (omitted)

  • Commercially available fuel oil for power plant contains relatively much sulphur, which means accordingly high content sulphur deoxide in exhaust gas. Sulphur deoxide has been identified as the worst-pollutant caused by thermal power generation. This paper primarily deals with the stack gas diffusion effects of various parameters, namely vertical stability, wind velocity, exhaust gas velocity, stack height, etc., on the ground concentration. thereof the relation between stack height and maximum plant capacity is analyzed from the standpoint of air pollution prevention. The limit capacity is calculated by means of mean concentration introducing Mead and Lowry coefficient respectively.

  • In this study, the flow field and the recirculation phenomena are investigated numerically for the model around a tunnel entrance and exit. It turns out that the air entering to the tunnel entrance comes mostly from the upper region of the entrance implying that maintaining the air clear in that region is important for the inside-tunnel ventilation. We also found that the recirculation of the exhaust gas from the exit to the entrance has a maximum effect when the flow velocity at the exit is somewhat lower than that of the entrance.
