유산소성 운동과 비만교육이 비만 여고생의 렙틴 및 인슐린에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Aerobic Exercise and Obese Education on the Insulin and Leptin in Obese Girls′ High School Students)

  • 본 연구는 BMI가 26kg/$m^2$ 이상인 비만여고생 30명을 대상으로 유산소 운동과 비만교육집단(8명), 유산소운동집단(8명), 비만교육집단(8명), 통제집단(6명)으로 나누어 8주 동안 유산소 운동과 비만교육 프로그램을 적용한 후와 프로그램 중단 8주 후의 신체조성, 인슐린, 렙틴, 혈청지질의 변화를 구명하기 위하여 유산소 운동은 8주 동안 조깅을 최대심박수의 65~75%의 운동강도로 매회 50분, 주당 4회씩 실시하였으며, 비만교육은 주1회, 60분 동안 실시하였다. 인슐린과 렙틴에서 유산소 운동과 비만교육집단, 유산소 운동집단에서 프로그램 전과 프로그램 중단 8주 후보다 프로그램 후가 낮게 나타났다. 이상의 결과에서 여고생들의 비만 관리를 위해서는 지속적으로 실천할 수 있는 운동프로그램의 개발이 시급한 실정이다.

통증신경과학 교육을 결합한 필라테스 안정화 운동이 만성요통 환자의 통증 정도, 장애지수, 심리적 요인에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Pilates Stabilization Exercise combined with Pain Neurosicence Education on Pain, Disability Index, and Physichosocial Factor in Patients with Chronic Back Pain)

  • Background: This study conducted a comparative evaluation of the effects of Pilates stabilization exercise combined with pain neuroscience education (PNE) in patients with chronic low back pain. The evaluation was based on their visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, Korean Oswestry disability index (KODI) scores, and fear avoidance belief questionnaire (FABQ) scores. Methods: A total of 36 participants were recruited and randomly assigned to either a Pilates stabilization exercise group (PSE, n=18) or Pilates stabilization exercise combined with pain neuroscience education group (PPNE, n=18). Both the PSE and PPNE groups participated in 50-minute sessions of Pilates stabilization exercise, three times per week for six weeks. The VAS, KODI, and FABQ scores of the participants were measured before and after the intervention. Results: There were significant improvements in the VAS of the PSE and PPNE group, with significant difference found between them. Both groups showed a significant decline in KODI scores following the exercise interventions, with significant difference observed between the two groups. FABQ scores were significantly decline in both groups, with significant difference found between them. Conclusion: In this study, Pilates stabilization exercise combined with pain neuroscience education was found to be more effective than Pilates stabilization exercise alone in reducing the VAS, KODI, and FABQ scores of patients with chronic low back pain. Thus, Pilates stabilization exercise combined with pain neuroscience education can be used in clinical practice to treat and prevent chronic lower back pain.

Effects of Nutritional Education and Physical Exercise Program on Nutritional and Health Status of Obese Children in Busan Metropolitan City

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of a nutritional education and physical exercise program on obese children (47 boys and 36 girls). The nutritional education and physical exercise program was provided for 6 weeks and dietary habits, nutrient intake and hematological profiles were measured before and after the program. The BMI (body mass index, $kg/m^2$) in male children was significantly reduced to $24.58{\pm}2.81$ from $25.89{\pm}3.27$ (p<0.01) and it was significantly reduced to $24.29{\pm}3.51$ from $25.21{\pm}3.59$ in female children after the completion of nutritional education and exercise program. Body fat in male children was remarkably reduced to $32.69{\pm}7.74%$ after education from $37.38{\pm}9.21%$ (p<0.001). After the program total cholesterol concentration in male children was reduced to $176.48{\pm}29.10\;mg/dL$ from $196.03{\pm}29.10\;mg/dL$, whereas there was no significant difference in females before and after the nutritional education and exercise program. The grasping power of male children (p<0.05) and backmuscle strength of male (p<0.05) and female children (p<0.001) were significantly increased after the exercise program. The nutrient intakes that were different before and after the nutrition education were calories (p<0.05) and carbohydrate (p<0.05) in male children, and a significant increase in intake of vitamin A (p<0.05) was found in female children. There was a significant difference in meal time regularity before and after program. The findings of this study showed that there was a significant decrease in both body fat and weight, in addition to normalization of hematological profiles after the completion of nutrition education and physical exercise programs.

Effects of endurance training for 4weeks on resting metabolic rate and excess post-exercise oxygen consumption in mouse

  • This study assessed the amount of energy consumed and fat deposition after endurance training in order to review the effect of 4-week endurance exercise on resting metabolic rate of a mouse during and after exercise and the effect of exercise. A total of 19 seven-week-old ICR male mice were used as the study subject. Those mice were divided into sedentary group (Sed) and trained group (Tr) after a week of environment adaption. The Tr group was trained with endurance exercise five times a week for four weeks. Weight and the amount of food intake were daily weighed and resting metabolic rate and metabolic rate after exercise were assessed before starting exercise and on the fourth week after training. Metabolic rate during exercise were measured four weeks after training. At the end of breeding period, statistically significant difference was shown in weights of trained and sedentary groups (p < 0.05). During a resting period, no significant difference was shown in oxygen intake, respiratory exchange ratio, and the amount of carbohydrate and fat oxidized. Moreover, no significant difference was shown in excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC) of an hour period after training. In contrast, the maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) was approximately 11.1% higher in trained group after training compare to before. However, there was no significant difference in respiratory exchange ratio and carbohydrate and fat oxidization. During exercise, oxygen uptake, carbon dioxide production, and respiratory exchange ratio in energy metabolism during exercise showed no significant difference. However, significant difference was exhibited in the amount of fat oxidized in both groups. Summing up those results, endurance exercise could be concluded to be effective in weight control. However, weight loss is thought to be resulted from increase in fat oxidization during exercise unlike the conclusion made from previous studies where weight loss is prominently influenced by energy metabolism during a resting period and increased fat oxidation during post-exercise recovery. All experimental procedures were carried out at the Animal Experiment Research Center of Konkuk University. This study was conducted in accordance with the ethical guidelines of the Konkuk University Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.

수중운동이 관절염 환자의 하지근력, 관절각도 및 통증에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Aquatic Exercise Program on Lower Limbs, Muscle Strength, Knee Joint Flexion and Pain Changes of Arthritis Patients)

  • In an attempt to investigate the effect of long-term aquatic exercise program on lower limbs' muscle strength, knee Joint flexion, pain reduction and weight changes with aquatic exercise program. Forty three women with arthritis were pre and post tested for changes of muscle strength, range of motion, weight and pain. This data was collected from April 1, 1997 to February 24, 1998. The mean age was 52.5. Statistically significant in lower limbs' muscle strength with an aquatic exercise program by age, BMI, education, rheumatic drug use, illness duration until 12 weeks after experiment. Statistically significant in knee joint flexion with aquatic exercise program by age, BMI, education, rheumatic drug use, illness duration until 12 weeks after experiment. Statistically significant in pain reduction with aquatic exercise program by age, BMI, education, rheumatic drug use, illness duration until 12 weeks after experiment. Statistically significant in weight changes with aquatic exercise program by age, BMI, education, rheumatic drug use, illness duration until 6 weeks after experiment. As a conclusion, aquatic exercise programs for the patients with arthritis require at least 12 weeks and a variety of aquatic exercise programs for the effective control should be developed.

Lactate consumption mediates repeated high-intensity interval exercise-enhanced executive function in adult males

  • [Purpose] Lactate is a principal energy substrate for the brain during exercise. A single bout of high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) can increase the blood lactate level, brain lactate uptake, and executive function (EF). However, repeated HIIE can attenuate exercise-induced increases in lactate level and EF. The lactate levels in the brain and blood are reported to be correlated with exercise-enhanced EF. However, research is yet to explain the cause-and-effect relationship between lactate and EF. This study examined whether lactate consumption improves the attenuated exercise-enhanced EF caused by repeated HIIE. [Methods] Eleven healthy men performed two sets of HIIE, and after each set, 30 min were given for rest and examination. In the 2nd set, the subjects consumed experimental beverages containing (n = 6) and not containing (n = 5) lactate. Blood, cardiovascular, and psychological variables were measured, and EF was evaluated by the computerized color-word Stroop test. [Results] The lactate group had a higher EF (P < 0.05) and tended to have a higher blood lactate level (P = 0.082) than the control group in the 2nd set of HIIE. Moreover, blood lactate concentration was correlated with the interference score (i.e., reverse score of EF) (r = -0.394; P < 0.05). [Conclusion] Our results suggest that the attenuated exercise-enhanced EF after repeated HIIE can be improved through lactate consumption. However, the role of lactate needs to be elucidated in future studies, as it can be used for improving athletes' performance and also in cognitive decline-related clinical studies.

일부지역 병원 환자조사를 통한 운동상해 관련요인 연구 (Related Factors of Exercise Injury from Hospital Patients)

  • Objective: This study was performed to identify the related factors of exercise injury throughout the actual cases among patients. Method: The subjects of the study consisted of 304 patients(209 male and 95 female) over 20's in seoul and kyonggi area, and data collected by using questionnaires were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 11.0 program. To prove the relative factors of exercise injury from hospital patients Results: 1) It was found that the general degree of exercise injury showed significant difference regarding gender, age and education level. In other words, if it was male, young and high school graduate, the portion of exercise injury for the person was higher than others. On the other hand, the duration of medical treatment for the patient, who is male, old and college graduate took longer than the others. 2) It demonstrated that the lower extremity was most intensively damaged due to the exercise injury, especially, knees and ankles had the most portion of exercise injury and a sprain was the most common form of exercise injury for these body parts. 3) The degree of exercise injury regarding of exercise maintains significant difference with the frequency of exercise. In fact, the more exercise was done by a person such as 3 to 4 days a week, the less duration of medical treatment for the person was taken. 4) It also showed that there was significant difference between the habit of exercise and the degree of exercise injury. In other words, a person had better exercise habit, it took the person less duration of medical treatment. As well, if someone had better warming up, he or she had lower degree of exercise injury after all. Conclusion: Consequently, according to the data, the research suggested that the male needed more carefulness than the female in exercise. Old age people needed to be more careful of getting sprain of knee and ankle in particular. As well, it concluded that people needed not only enough warming up before doing exercise but also positive habit of exercise in order to minimize the exercise injury.

  • 12주 유산소 트레이닝 결과, 제 2형 당뇨 대상자의 신체적 특성 및 심혈관계 기능은 향상되었고, 심근허혈을 판단하는 ST-level과 ST-slope가 트레이닝 후 감소함을 나타냈다. 또한, 당뇨에서 자주 나타나는 대표적인 자율신경계 이상 마커인 QTc interval을 감소시켰다. 따라서, 12주 유산소 트레이닝은 심혈관계 기능과 당뇨로 인한 심장허혈, 자율신경계 기능을 증진시킨 것으로 나타냈다.

  • 본 연구는 체지방률 30% 이상인 비만 중년여성을 대상으로 복합운동 영양교육군(n=7), 복합운동군(n=7), 대조군(n=7) 총21명을 대상으로 연구한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 12주간 복합운동과 영양교육의 실시는 비만 중년 여성의 체지방률, 제지방량, GOT, TC, TG, HDL-C, 인슐린 저항성을 개선시키는 효과를 나타냈다. 이러한 결과는 복합운동과 영양교육이 비만중년여성의 신체조성, 간기능, 혈중지질, 및 인슐린 저항성에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳐 중년여성의 비만을 개선하는데 효과적인 프로그램 사료되며, 추후에도 비만중년여성의 운동방법, 운동빈도, 식이방법 등을 고려한 다양한 연구가 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

The dog as an exercise science animal model: a review of physiological and hematological effects of exercise conditions

  • [Purpose] Exercise is a fundamental way to maintain and improve health and physical fitness. Many human studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of exercise on various biological parameters. However, studies investigating the effects of exercise in dogs are limited. This review summarized the current data from studies that examined the effects of different exercise conditions (treadmill vs. non-treadmill and acute vs. chronic) on physiological and hematological parameters in dogs. [Methods] Papers addressing the effects of exercise in dogs published from January 2000 to October 2020 were retrieved from the online databases of Scopus, Google Scholar, and PubMed and were selected and reviewed. [Results] The exercise conditions differentially affected physiological and hematological responses and adaptation in dogs. Therefore, the development and comprehensive evaluation of scientific exercise programs for dogs are necessary. [Conclusion] The dog would be a valuable exercise science animal model, and studies aiming at the optimal health, well-being, and quality of life of dogs need to be conducted.
