열적 탄소 환원법으로 제조된 ZnO 나노와이어의 성장 메커니즘 (Growth methanism of ZnO nanowire syntheized by carbo-thermal reduction method)

  • Nanowire와 nanorod 같은 1차원의 반도체 재료는 디멘젼과 크기와 물리적 특성과의 관계 등을 연구하는데 중요한 역할을 하며 laser ablation, arc discharge, chemical vapor depostion, vapor phase transport Process와 solution등의 방법으로 성공적으로 합성되었다. ZnO 는 3.37eV의 넓은 밴드갭과 다른 넓은 밴드갭 재료에 비해 높은 exciton bindng energy (60meV)를 가지며 UV LED, laser diode에 적용하기 유리하고 최근 디스플레나 나노 광전소자로서의 가능성 이 대두되면서 최근 이에 관한 연구가 증가하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 열적탄소환원법(carbothermal reduction process)으로 ZnO와 graphite 분말을 1:1 중량비로 혼합한 분말을 90$0^{\circ}C$, 100$0^{\circ}C$에서 air 분위기에서 20분간 반응 후 로 내에서 냉각 하였다. 직경 이 50nm-1000nm, 길이가 수 미크론인 내부 결함이 전혀 없는 육각형 단결정의 nanowire가 합성되었고 XRD, FE-SEM과 TEM으로 조성 및 형상, 내부구조를 분석하였다. 합성된 ZnO nanowire는 직경 이 변하는 부분에서 성장방향으로의 계단을 형성하였고 이는 layer by layer 방법으로 nanowire가 성장한다는 것을 나타낸다.

Interlayer Engineering with Different Host Material Properties in Blue Phosphorescent Organic Light-Emitting Diodes

  • We investigated the light-emitting performances of blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes, known as PHOLEDs, by incorporating an N,N'-dicarbazolyl-3,5-benzen interlayer between the hole transporting layer and emitting layer (EML). We found that the effects of the introduced interlayer for triplet exciton confinement and hole/electron balance in the EML were exceptionally dependent on the host materials: 9-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-3,6-bis(triphenylsilyl)-9H-carbazole, 9-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-3,6-ditrityl-9H-carbazole, and 4,4'-bis-triphenylsilanyl-biphenyl. When an appropriate interlayer and host material were combined, the peak external quantum efficiency was greatly enhanced by over 21 times from 0.79% to 17.1%. Studies on the recombination zone using a series of host materials were also conducted.

  • We have grown, for the first time to our knowledge, N-doped ZnO thin films on sapphire substrate by employing novel dielectric barrier discharge in pulsed laser deposition (DBD-PLD). DBD guarantees an effective way for massive in-situ generation of N-plasma under the conventional PLD process condition. Low-temperature photoluminescence spectra of the N-doped ZnO film provided near band-edge emission after thermal annealing process. The emission peak was resolved by Gaussian fitting to find a dominant acceptor-bound exciton peak ($A^0X$) that indicates the successful p-type doping of ZnO with N.

  • SAW와 반도체가 상호작용할 때 발생되는 횡음전전압을 이용하여 반절연 GaAs 웨이퍼 표면의 에너지 갭, 엑시톤, 얕은 준위 트랩, 깊은 준위 트랩, 어닐링 후의 형반전, $EL_2$ 준위의 준안정 상태 그리고 Cr이 첨가된 2인치 GaAs 웨이퍼의 전자 농도 분포를 비파괴적으로 측정평가 하였다. 또한 SAW를 발진기를 이용한 반도체 표면성질의 측정을 새로이 시도하고 이의 실용성을 밝혔다.

  • Absolute configuration of carboxylic acids, including amino acids can be determined by circular dichroism (CD) exciton chirality method. This method employs cyclic oligopyrroles able to form stable complexes with carboxylic acids. Addition of carboxylic acids to the oligopyrroles induce CD spectrum at the macrocycle absorption region and in which the sign of the $1^{st}$ Cotton effect is determined solely by the absolute configuration of the carboxylic acid. The basicity of the pyrrole nitrogen can be controlled by macrocycle substitution thus yielding more sensitive chirality sensors.

Exciton Dynamics and Device Lifetime of Phosphorescent dye doped Polymer Light Emitting Diodes

  • The photoluminescence (PL) efficiency of $Ir(ppy)_{3}$:PVK is lower than $Ir(ppy)_{3}$:CBP for the whole range of doping concentration and this low PL efficiency can be a reason of the lower efficiency of PhPLED than PhOLED. The lower efficiency is originated from the large bi-excitonic quenching such as the triplet-triplet annihilation. The PhPLEDs showed very short lifetime. The short lifetime was found to be originated from the instability of the doubly reduced $Ir(ppy)_{3^{-2}}$. The double reduction takes place because of the low electron mobility of PVK and large energy difference of LUMO level between PVK and $Ir(ppy)_{3}$.

Synthesis and Chiro-Optical Properties of Water Processable Conducting Poly(diphenylamine) Nanocomposites

  • Water-soluble, chiral conducting, poly(diphenylamine) (PDPA) nanocomposites were synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization of diphenylamine in the presence of poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) as a template and camphor sulphonic acid (CSA) as the chiral inductor, Composites were formed as stable aqueous dispersions under different experimental conditions, such as DPA to PAA molar ratios, PAA molecular weight, etc. Circular dichroism(CD) spectra of the composites indicated the induction of chirality to PDPA. Compared to simple chiral PANI, the PDPA/PAA/CSA nanocomposites showed a different Cotton effect. The appearance of a CD band in the composite was complimentary to the bisignate, exciton-coupled band in the UV-Visible spectrum. FTIR spectra indicated the intimate mixing of PDPA and PAA.

Novel host and electron blocking materials for efficient and long lifetime phosphorescent OLEDs

  • In order to improve the performance in green phosphorescent OLED devices, Merck has developed novel host and electron blocking materials. The newly developed host materials improve the device lifetime by a factor of 3. The newly developed electron blocking materials having not only electron but also exciton barrier properties increase the efficiency of the device by a factor of 1.4. Comparable results were achieved in phosphorescent red systems with further host materials.

  • To understand the exact charge carrier photogeneration properties of photoactive thin films consisting of a ${\pi}-conjugated$ polymer matrix and a triplet dopant, we prepared two types of polymer, poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) and poly[9,9-bis(2- ethylhexyl)fluorene-2,7-diyl] (PF2/6) doped with triplet emitters for organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), either iridium(III)fac-tris(2-phenylpyridine) $(Ir(ppy)_3)$ or iridium(III)bis[(4,6-fluorophenyl)- $pyridinato-N,C^2'$]picolinate (FIrpic), as thin film devices by using the conventional method. Those doped film devices, as well as pristine film devices, on ITO substrates were characterized by means of steady state photocurrent measurement for a wide spectral range.

Color Tuning of PLED based on Poly(fluorene)s

  • To obtain various colors from the blue emitting poly(fluorene)s, two different approaches are introduced. One is copolymerization with low band gap comonomers and the other is molecular doping with various dyes. As fast and efficient exciton migration and trapping and/or energy transfer between the chromorphoric segments or doped dyes in conjugated polymers can shift the emission to longer wavelengths, these phenomena can be utilized to obtain various colors from the intrinsically blue light emitting poly(fluorene)s.
