  • SRM drives generate large vibration and acoustic noise because it is commutated individually by step pulse m.m.f on each phase pole. The frequency or motor speed of peak vibrations and acoustic noises is coincided with the natural resonant frequency of the magnetic structure and frame material. And this radial vibration force is induced on the phase commutation region. This paper suggest the new electromagnetic structure of SRM with auxiliary commutation winding excited d.c e.m.f.. This phase- commutating winding is coupled magnetically between one phase winding and the vibrating force is falled down. As a result, SRM with d.c exciting commutation winding is very useful to reduce vibration and acoustic noise of SRM drive.

  • Diesel power plant can be used as a power supplier for the isolated place where consumption of electric power is variable. The reason is that mobility and durability of diesel engine is superior to those of other thermal engines. However, there are some disadvantages for using these diesel engines such as bigger vibratory excitation force comparing to the others, which result from high combustion pressure of cylinders and inertia force of piston reciprocating masses. In this paper, control and optimization of torsional vibration of 12K90MC-S engine for diesel power plant using uneven crank angles is identified by theoretical analysis and vibration measurement.

  • Tapping mode atomic force microscopy (TM-AFM) utilizes the dynamic response of a resonating probe tip as it approaches and retracts from a sample to measure the topography and material properties of a nanostructure. We present recent results based on numerical techniques that yield new perspectives and insight into AFM. It is compared that the dynamic models including van der Waals and Derjaguin-Muller-Toporov(DMT) or Johnson-Kendall-Roberts(JKR) contact forces demonstrates that periodic solutions can be represented with respect to the approach distance and excitation frequency.

  • Structure-borne noise is an important aspect to consider during the design and development of a vehicle. In this work. it was desired to identify the primary paths associated with structure-borne noise generated from the engine and front suspension. An experimental source-path-receiver model was used to characterize the system. A variety of primary sources such as engine. tires or exhaust system generate vibrations of the inner surfaces of the passenger compartment of a vehicle which subsequently radiate noise. The source was characterized by the force acting at the engine-to-body interface. and the path was characterized by pressure over force FRF's. The excitation forces were indirectly determined using dynamic stiffness of rubber mount or the system accelerance matrix. Through these analysis, path contribution diagram which is well expressed primary noise path is obtained.

  • The vibration shape of the structure with arbitrary boundary condition under excitation is determined by the governing equation and the boundary condition and driving force. In this paper, driving point impedance that is defined by the ratio of the driving force at one point to the velocity of that point is selected as a measure to identify the boundary condition. First, this paper deals with a string with arbitrary boundary condition. It is selected because of its simplicity, but generality of which exhibits the desired physical phenomena. Particularly the relation among the driving point impedance, the boundary condition and the vibration shape is dealt as a primary step to identify the boundary condition by using the driving point impedance.

  • Tapping mode atomic force microscopy (TM-AFM) utilizes the dynamic response of a resonating probe tip as it approaches and retracts from a sample to measure the topography and material properties of a nanostructure. We present recent results based on nonlinear dynamical systems theory, computational continuation techniques and detailed experiments that yield new perspectives and insight into AFM. A dynamic model including van der Waals and Derjaguin-Muller-Toporov (DMT) contact forces demonstrates that periodic solutions can be represented with respect to the approach distance and excitation frequency. Turning points on the surface lead to hysteretic amplitude jumps as the tip nears/retracts from the sample. Experiments are performed using a tapping mode tip on a graphite sample to verify the predictions.

  • Feasibility study of gas-lubricated bearing in micro gas turbine was performed. Based on Reynolds equation, finite difference method with coupled boundary was developed to analyze bearing characteristics, such as load capacity, mass flow rates and stiffness. By the bearing force and mass flow rates analysis with the variation of supply pressure, bearing clearance and capillary radius, acceptable range of design parameters were suggested in terms of load capacity and stiffness of bearings. Additionally, coupled boundary effect on pressure distribution was investigated and it is stated that coupling could reduce an excitation force due to narrow pressure distribution.

  • This paper predicted the dynamic behaviors of a cantilevered carbon nanotube(CNT) incorporating the electrostatic force, van der Waals interactions between the CNT and ground plane. The structural model of the CNT includes geometric and inertial nonlinearities for predicting various phenomena of nonlinear responses of the CNT due to the electrostatic force. In order to solve the problem, we used Galerkin's approximation and the numerical integration techniques and as a result, we predicted characteristics of nonlinear response of nano resonator. The cantilevered CNT shows complex dynamic responses and instabilities due to the applied ac and ac voltages, and driving frequencies. The results investigated in this paper are helpful to the modeling of nanotube based electromechanical devices such as nano-resonators and nano-sensors.

  • The nonlinear characteristics for the hinge of a deployable missile control fin are investigated experimentally. The nonlinearity is caused by a worn or loose hinge and manufacturing tolerance and cannot be eliminated completely. The structural nonlinearity has an effect on the static and dynamic characteristics of the control fin. Therefore, it is necessary to establish the accurate nonlinear model for the hinge of the control fin. In the present study the existence of nonlinearities in the hinge is confirmed from the frequency response experiments such as tip random excitation and base sine sweep. Using the system identification method, especially, “Force-State Mapping Technique”, the types of nonlinearities are identified and the nonlinear hinge model of the control fin is established.
