  • Services in SOA are typically perceived as black-box to service consumers, and can be dynamically evolved at runtime, and run on a number of unknown and heterogeneous environments. Because of these characteristics of the services, effective and efficient monitoring of various aspects on services is an essential functionality for autonomous management of service. But the problem with or limitation in conventional or existing approaches is, that they focus on services themselves, ignoring the effects by business processes. Consequently, there is a room for service monitoring which provides more useful information of business level by acquisition of only external monitoring data that depend on specific BPEL engine and middleware. Moreover, there is a strong demand to present effective methods to reduce monitoring overhead which can degrade quality of services. EDA can cope with such limitations in SOA by collecting and analyzing events efficiently. In this paper, we first describe EDA benefits in service monitoring, and classify monitorring target, and present an appropriate monitoring method for each monitoring target. Also to provide the applicability of our approach, an event meta-model is defined, and event processing model and architecture based on the meta-model are proposed. And, with the proposed architecture and method, we implement a prototype of an event-driven dynamic monitoring framework which can collect and process internal and external data at runtime. Finally, we present the result of a case study to demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed approach.

  • In spite of rapidly increasing interests in digital manufacturing, there still lacks of a systematic approach in manufacturing line flow analysis via modeling and simulation; currently, the parameters for designing manufacturing line are defined by being solely based on engineers experiences. The paper proposes an application of the genetic algorithm to a discrete event line simulation finding optimal set of parameters for manufacturing line balancing problem. The proposed method has been applied to two example problems-one is a simple manufacturing model and the other for shipyard industry-in order to demonstrate its validity and usefulness.

  • In general, simulation and analytic method are used for real system analysis. However, or date, there has been only the theoretical works on each approach. Therefore it is required that we study on the relationship between each approaches to obtain more reliable and correct system analysis results. In this paper, using SPN(Stochasitc Petri Net) formalism, we propose the method of output prediction of the DEVS(Discrete Event system Specification) simulation. For this we suggest a transformation algorithm which transform SPN form DEVS formalism based on the event scheduling world view and a verification algorithm for it. We then show an example to apply it to the real system, such that the Grocery Store System.

  • The first spectrum auction in the Republic of Korea is attention-worthy owing to the fierce competition for the only 1.8-GHz spectrum license, the winning bidder of which was suspected of overpaying for its acquisition. This study empirically investigates the existence of a "winner's curse" in the first Korean spectrum auction by using a standard event study methodology. The results show that both the winner and loser experienced significant positive returns on the completion day of the auction. The results imply that there was no winner's curse in the auction and that the losing firm might increase its competitive advantage by acquiring other spectrum licenses despite failing to achieve its initial target spectrum. Therefore, these results suggest that regulators may need to consider bringing about positive short-term wealth benefits to all bidders by appropriately designing a spectrum auction, such as by performing multiband auctions.

  • As many industrial systems become more complex, they become extremely difficult to diagnose the cause of failures. The subject of this paper is ECCS(Emergency Core Cooling System) part of PWR(Pressurized Water Reactor). This paper presents modeling and diagnoser construction of ECCS based on discrete event system theory. Also, this paper presents that the ECCS system is diagnosible in our approach.

  • This study explores the lexical-semantic structure of derived causative verbs in Korean based on Pustejovsky(1995)'s Generative Lexicon Theory (GL), Mor-phological causative verbs are derived from their root stems by affixing ‘-i, -hi, -li, -gi’ in Korean and the meanings of derived predicates are closely related to the meanings of their root verbs. In particular, the change of the ARGUMENT STRUCTURE by morphological derivation leads to the change of the EVENT STRUCTURE. In this study, causation is defined as the cause-effect relation having a causer. The ARGUMENT STRUCTURES of derived causative verbs includes a causer argument, which is added to the ARGUMENT STRUCTURE of their root verbs. Their EVENT STRUCTURE has a headed process related to a causer and their result is the event which their root verbs represent. This approach can also suggest that the (in)directness of causative is determined by which verb is its root and explain the difference between the morphological causativization and the syntactic causativization in Korean.

  • Although Firms have been increasing their information security significantly to handle increased security risks, the effects of information security were not well understood. This study aims to investigate the market value of information security by employing the event study methodology. Our research also explores how market responses vary depending on the type of information security announcements. We collected 177 firm-level information security announcements between 2001 and 2017 in South Korea. For all samples, our results indicate that the stock market positively reacts to information security announcements. We also conducted subsample analysis and found that while information security certification announcement has a positive impact on the stock market, information security activities (e.g. award, information security system) announcement had no impact on the stock market. Our study adopted a novel approach (i.e. event study) for investigating the effects of information security and found that information security investment positively affects firm value. Our results allow managers to measure the effects of information security investment and help them make right decisions on information security investment.

  • Visual surveillance is an active topic recently in Computer Vision. Event detection and recognition is one important and useful application of visual surveillance system. In this paper, we propose a new method to recognize the entering and exiting events based on the human's movement feature and the door's state. Without sensors, the proposed approach is based on novel and simple vision method as a combination of edge detection, motion history image and geometrical characteristic of the human shape. The proposed method includes several applications such as access control in visual surveillance and computer vision fields.

  • Most of supply chain simulation models have been developed on the basis of discrete-event simulation. Since supply chain systems are neither completely discrete nor continuous, the need of constructing a model with aspects of both discrete-event simulation and continuous is provoked, resulting in a combined discrete-continuous simulation. Continuous simulation concerns the modeling over time of a system by a representation in which the state variables change continuously with respect to time. In this paper, an architecture of combined modeling for supply chain simulation is proposed, which presents the equation of continuous part in supply chain and how these equations are used supply chain simulation models. A simple supply chain model is demonstrated the possibility and the capability of this approach.

  • This Paper proposes a new methodology for assessing the reliability of an accident management, which Is based on the reliability physics and the scheme to generate dynamic event tree. The methodology consists of 3 main steps: screening; uncertainty propagation; and probability estimation. Sensitivity analysis is used for screening the variables of significance. Latin Hypercube sampling technique and MAAP code are used for uncertainty propagation, and the dynamic event tree generation method is used for the estimation of non-success probability of implementing an accident management strategy. This approach is applied in assessing the non-success probability of implementing a cavity flooding strategy, which is to supply water into the reactor cavity using emergency fire systems during the sequence of station blackout at the reference plant.
