An experimental study was carried out to understand the heat transfer performance of a miniature loop heat pipes using water-based copper nanoparticles suspensions as the working fluid. The suspensions consisted of deionized water and copper nanoparticles with an average diameter of 80 nm. Effects of the cupper mass concentration and the operation pressure on the average evaporation and condensation heat transfer coefficients, the critical heat flux and the total heat resistance of the mLHPs were investigated and discussed. The pressure frequency also depends upon the evaporator temperature which has been maintained from $60^{\circ}C$ to $90^{\circ}C$. The Investigation shows 60% filling ratio gives the highest inside pressure magnitude of highest number pressure frequency at any of setting of evaporator temperature and 5wt% results the lowest heat flow resistance.
Mg-doped ZnO one-dimensional (1D) nanostrutures were synthesized by using a thermal evaporation technique. The morphology, crystal structure, and sensing properties of the Mg-doped ZnO nanostructures functionalized with Pt to CO gas at $100^{\circ}C$ were examined. The diameters of the 1D nanostructures ranged from 80 to 120 nm and that the lengths were up to a few tens of micrometers. The gas sensors fabricated from multiple networked Mg-doped ZnO nanowires functionalized with Pt showed enhanced electrical response to CO gas. The responses of the nanowires were improved by approximately 70, 69, 111, and 81 times at CO concentrations of 10, 25, 50, and 100 ppm, respectively. Both the response and recovery times of the nanowire sensor for CO gas sensing were not nearly changed by Pt functionalization. It also appeared that the Mg doping concentration did not influence the sensing properties of ZnO nanowires as strongly as Pt-functionalization. In addition, the mechanism for the enhancement in the CO gas sensing properties of Mg-doped ZnO nanowires by Pt functionalization is discussed.

ZnO nanostructures have a lot of interest for decades due to its varied applications such as light-emitting devices, power generators, solar cells, and sensing devices etc. To get the high performance of these devices, the factors of nanostructure geometry, spacing, and alignment are important. So, Patterning of vertically- aligned ZnO nanowires are currently attractive. However, many of ZnO nanowire or nanorod fabrication methods are needs high temperature, such vapor phase transport process, metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy, thermal evaporation, pulse laser deposition and thermal chemical vapor deposition. While hydrothermal process has great advantages-low temperature (less than $100^{\circ}C$), simple steps, short time consuming, without catalyst, and relatively ease to control than as mentioned various methods. In this work, we investigate the dependence of ZnO nanowire alignment and morphology on si substrate using of nanosphere template with various precursor concentration and components via hydrothermal process. The brief experimental scheme is as follow. First synthesized ZnO seed solution was spun coated on to cleaned Si substrate, and then annealed $350^{\circ}C$ for 1h in the furnace. Second, 200nm sized close-packed nanospheres were formed on the seed layer-coated substrate by using of gas-liquid-solid interfacial self-assembly method and drying in vaccum desicator for about a day to enhance the adhesion between seed layer and nanospheres. After that, zinc oxide nanowires were synthesized using a low temperature hydrothermal method based on alkali solution. The specimens were immersed upside down in the autoclave bath to prevent some precipitates which formed and covered on the surface. The hydrothermal conditions such as growth temperature, growth time, solution concentration, and additives are variously performed to optimize the morphologies of nanowire. To characterize the crystal structure of seed layer and nanowires, morphology, and optical properties, X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and photoluminescence (PL) studies were investigated.
In Korea, groundwater is main water source in livestock farms. Most dairy and cattle farms have constructed their own wells for human drinking and livestock farming. However, these private residential wells have not been controlled by government and also there was scant study about livestock drinking water quality. Therefore this study was to monitor of the livestock farms' groundwater quality in Korea. Water samples were collected at 123 dairy and cattle farms and were analysed forty six substances with quality standard for drinking water approved by the Minister of Environment. Seventy eight (63.4%) of 123 samples failed to drinking water stand a test. The most frequent contaminants were nitrate-nitrogen and microbial. 22.8% (n=28) of samples showed nitrate-N concentration of higher than 10 mg/L meant that can't be used drinking water for human and the Nitrate-N concentration analysed in the range of 0.2 to 61.2 mg/L. All of 78 failed to drinking samples had microbial problems, especially 5.7% (n=7) of samples indicated water could be contaminated by feces. Other contaminants detected were zinc and evaporation residue. Especially detected zinc concentration (32 mg/L) was about ten times higher than standard of zinc (3 mg/L). Regression analysis indicated that groundwater pH did not influence to nitrate-N concentration but the hardness and chloride could affect to nitrate-N concentration in the groundwater. Most livestock farms were adjacent to crop farmland in Korea. This could cause contamination of groundwater with nitrate-N and pesticide that could accumulate livestock product. Moreover Heavy metal such as zinc and copper could be released from a corrosive plated water pipe in livestock farm. Put together, Korea livestock system is indoor, not pasture-based, hence livestock could be exposed to potential contaminated water consistently. Therefore on the basis of these data, appropriate livestock drinking water quality standards should be prepared to keep livestock healthy and their product safe. Further, livestock drinking water quality should be monitored continuously in suitable livestock drinking water standards.

Anodic titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes are very attractive materials for gas sensors due to its large surface to volume ratios. The most widely known method for fabrication of TiO2 nanotubes is anodic oxidation of metallic Ti foil. Since the remaining Ti substrate is a metallic conductor, TiO2 nanotube arrays on Ti are not appropriate for gas sensor applications. Detachment of the TiO2 nanotube arrays from the Ti Substrate or the formation of electrodes onto the TiO2 nanotube arrays have been used to demonstrate gas sensors based on TiO2 nanotubes. But the sensitivity was much lower than those of TiO2 gas sensors based on conventional TiO2 nanoparticle films. In this study, Ti thin films were deposited onto a SiO2/Si substrate by electron beam evaporation. Samples were anodized in ethylene glycol solution and ammonium fluoride (NH4F) with 0.1wt%, 0.2wt%, 0.3wt% and potentials ranging from 30 to 60V respectively. After anodization, the samples were annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ in air for 1 hours, leading to porous TiO2 films with TiO2 nanotubes. With changing temperature and CO concentration, gas sensor performance of the TiO2 nanotube gas sensors were measured, demonstrating the potential advantages of the porous TiO2 films for gas sensor applications. The details on the fabrication and gas sensing performance of TiO2 nanotube sensors will be presented.
A variety of bacterial strains were isolated from waste disposal sites of Uttaranchal, India, and some from artificially developed soil beds containing maleic anhydride, glucose, and small pieces of polyethylene. Primary screening of isolates was done based on their ability to utilize high- and low-density polyethylenes (HDPE/LDPE) as a primary carbon source. Thereafter, a consortium was developed using potential strains. Furthermore, a biodegradation assay was carried out in 500-ml flasks containing minimal broth (250ml) and HDPE/LDPE at 5mg/ml concentration. After incubation for two weeks, degraded samples were recovered through filtration and subsequent evaporation. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and simultaneous thermogravimetric-differential thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTG-DTA) were used to analyze these samples. Results showed that consortium-treated HDPE (considered to be more inert relative to LDPE) was degraded to a greater extent (22.41% weight loss) in comparison with LDPE (21.70% weight loss), whereas, in the case of untreated samples, weight loss was more for LDPE than HDPE (4.5% and 2.5%, respectively) at $400^{\circ}C$. Therefore, this study suggests that polyethylene could be degraded by utilizing microbial consortia in an eco-friendly manner.
The effects of soil venting on the leaching potential of residual gasoline were characterized by applying a simple multi-component volatilization/dissolution model based on Raoult's law. The validity of Raoult's law in describing dissolution of gasoline was evaluated separately using both pure gasoline and gasoline contaminated soil. The aqueous concentrations of gasoline components equilibrated with pure gasoline could be described by Raoult's law within one order of magnitude, regardless of the composition of the gasoline. The leaching concentrations from contaminated soil could be well predicted at a relatively high gasoline concentration in soil. However, after 93.5% removal of gasoline by venting, the calculated values were higher than the experimental values by 50∼100%. A model involving multi-component evaporation and dissolution was applied and the results were compared with the experimental values. Possible causes of the discrepancy between the predicted values and experimental values were given.

The cubic (zinc blende) CdSe eppilayers were grown on GaAs(100) substrates by electron beam (e-beam) evapporation technique. X-ray scans with copper $K\alpha$ radiation indicate that the CdSe eppilayers are zinc blende. The lattice pparameter obtained from the (400) reflection is 6.077$\AA$, which is in excellent agreement with the value repported in the literature for zinc blende CdSe. The orientation of as-grown CdSe eppilayer is determined by electron channeling ppatterns(ECpp). The crystallinity of heteroeppitaxial CdSe layers were investigated based on the double crystal x-ray rocking curve(DCRC). The deppendence of the rocking curve width on layer thickness was studied. The FWHM(full width at half maximum) of CdSe eppilayers grown on GaAs(100) substrates is decreasing with increasing eppilayer thickness. The carrier concentration and mobility of the as-grown eppilayers deduced Hall data by van der ppauw method, are about 7$\times$1017 cm-3 and 2$\times$102 $\textrm{cm}^2$ / sec at room tempperature, resppectively. The energy gapp was determinded from the pphotocurrent sppectrum. In pphotocurrent sppectrum of a 1-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$-thick CdSe eppilayer at 30K, the ppeak at 1.746 eV is due to the free exciton of cubic CdSe. In summary, We have shown that eppilayers of zinc blende CdSe can be grown on GaAs(100) substrates by e-beam, desppite the large mismatch between eppilayer and substrate, as well as the natural ppreference for CdSe to form in the wurtzite structure.
P-type ($Bi_{0.5}Sb_{1.5}Te_3$) and n-type ($Bi_2Te_{2.4} Se_{0.6}$) thermoelectric thin film were deposited on glass and Teflon substrates by the flash evaporation technique. The changes in thermoelectric properties, such as Seebeck coefficient, electrical conductivity, carrier concentration, carrier mobility, thermal conductivity, and figure of merit, were investigated as a function of film thickness and annealing condition. Figures of merit of the thin films annealed at 473 K for 1 hour were improved to be $1.3{\times}10^{-3}K^{-1}$ for p-type and $0.3{\times}10^{-3}K^{-1}$ for n-type, and they were almost independent of film thickness. Temperature sensors were fabricated from the thin films having the above mentioned properties. And thermo-emf, sensitivity, and time constant of the sensors were measured to evaluate their characteristics for temperature sensors. Thin film sensors deposited on Teflon substrates showed better performance than those on glass substrates, and their sensitivity and time constant were 2.91 V/W and 28.2 sec respectively for the sensor of leg width 1 mm$\times$length 16 mm.

There has recently been much interest and research in developing digital x-ray systems based on using amorphous selenium(a-Se) photoconductors as the image receptor. The amorphous selenium layer that is currently being studied for use as an x-ray photoconductor is not pure a-Se but rather amorphous selenium alloyed with arsenic. We fabricated samples using the selenium and arsenic alloy with various concentrations of the arsenic. In this work, x-ray photoconductor using amorphous selenium alloyed with arsenic were fabricated with different concentrations of the arsenic (0.1 wt.%, 0.3wt.%, 0.5wt.%, 1wt.%, 1.5wt.%, 3wt.%, 5wt.%). The seven kind of samples was fabricated with a-Se alloyed with arsenic through vacuum thermal evaporation. We also investigate the arsenic concentration dependence on the device performance in radiation detector. The electric characteristics of radiation detector devices with changing additive ratio of the arsenic is performed by measuring the x-ray induced photocurrent and integrating it over time to find the total charge. The thickness of a-Se is $100{\mu}m$. Bias voltages $3V/{\mu}m$, $6V/{\mu}m$, $9V/{\mu}m$ are applied at the samples. As results, the net charge of a-Se 0.3% As sample is $526.0pC/mR/cm^2$ at $9V/{\mu}m$ bias. The net charge is decreased as with the increasing additive ratio of arsenic.
