지식기반사회 공학교육의 발전방향 탐색: EAC를 넘어 EAL로 (A Search for Directions in Engineering Education Development in a Knowledge-Based Society in Terms of Engineering Ethics Education: An Exploration of Ethics Across the Living Beyond Ethics Across the Curriculum)

  • The purpose of this research is to search for directions in engineering education development in a knowledge-based society in terms of 'engineering ethics educatio'. Engineering ethics education, having been recognized as an inter-disciplinary research field between engineering and philosophy, is a field that has been a major issue in countries that execute engineering education accreditation. And engineering ethics education has been a peculiar research field focused on EAC(Ethics across the Curriculum). Therefore, this study has deduced several results by critically reviewing the extant EAC-related literatures. First, accomplishments by various researchers that may well quoted as the leader of engineering ethics study and education or the educational achievements of Kanazawa Institute of Technology in Japan are considerably substantial. However, the EAC discussions thus far still raise numerous barriers and unsolved issues. Second, the discussion of EAC thus far comprehends limitations such as a shortage of the recognition of inter-disciplinary study in the field of education and insufficient participation by education majors. Third, the engineering and philosophy field experts who have been leading EAC discussions have been pursuing integrated education courses either consciously or unconsciously. Fourth, EAC discussions may expand by again illuminating the intent of integrated education courses in terms of 'education and the study of education', and this new facet can be summed up with a new term, EAL, which stands for 'Ethics across the Living.'

윤리적 공학교육이란 무엇인가: 그 필요성과 실천전략 (What is Ethical Engineering Education : its Necessity and Practical Tasks)

  • This study started from a critical review of the current problem of ethics education in engineering colleges, how it has become stereotyped and perfunctory and hence, is failing to properly foster engineers with a sense of responsibility. Existing engineering ethics education occupies a very limited role and weight in the periphery of the engineering curriculum, unable to hold a central position. This situation is of grave concern, especially when the leadership of engineers with social and professional responsibility is of great importance. Therefore, this study explored new directions and strategies for engineering ethics education while reviewing domestic and foreign studies dealing with the current status and problems of engineering ethics education. First, this study discussed the need for and direction of shifting to ethical engineering education instead of ethics education centered on liberal arts courses. Second, this study presented specific practical strategies to construct the ethical engineering curriculum. For example, it is necessary to establish the ethical engineering curriculum with an education linking ethics with human development goals, ethics education using Korea's current issues and agendas, micro- and macro-level analysis related to engineering, and leadership education.

공과대학의 공학윤리 교육과정 운영 실태 조사 (The Actual State of Engineering Ethics Curriculum)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 현재 4년제 공과대학에서 실시하고 있는 공학윤리 교육과정 운영 실태를 조사하는데 있다. 이를 위해 관련 문헌 분석, 설문조사 등의 방법으로 연구를 수행하였다. 설문 조사는 2004년 현재 공학교육 인증을 받았거나 신청한 14개의 대학에 개설된 공학 소양 과목 중에서, 강의의 전체 또는 일부로 공학윤리 교육을 실시하고 있는 강의 담당자 31명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 공학윤리 교육은 EAC(Ethics Across the Curriculum)의 형태로 도입되고 있으며, 수강생의 수가 다소 많으며, 복수의 담당자가 지정되지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 교육 목표에 있어서는 윤리학적인 이론보다는 공학적 상황에 초점을 맞추고 있는 것으로 조사되었으며, 교육 내용도 전반적으로 고르게 도입되고 있는 것으로 나타났으나 내용에 있어서 이론적인 면이 많은 것으로 나타났다. 교육 방법에 있어서는 강의식 수업이 주로 사용되며, 평가에 있어서는 대부분의 평가가 필기고사를 통하여 이루어지고 있으며, 수업 및 토론 참여, 발표 등의 비율은 낮게 조사되었다.

공학 윤리 교육: 현황과 쟁점, 그리고 전략 (Engineering Ethics Education: Issue and Strategy)

  • 과학기술의 발전이 가속화되고 사회에 미치는 파급력이 커짐에 따라 과학기술자의 사회적 책임 향상과 전문직 윤리에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 공학분야에서는 특히, EC2000의 도입과 공학교육인증기준이 체계화와 더불어 공학윤리교육의 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 하지만 공학과 윤리의 결합은 단순히 원칙적 선언에 의해 확보될 수 없으며 교육 시스템안에서 어떻게 제도화될 수 있고 실행 가능한 지에 대한 체계적 접근이 필요하다. 이 연구는 공학윤리 교육 제도화의 전제 조건이 되는 인식의 전환과 공학의 일상적 경험에 근거한 윤리 교육이 필수적임을 주장하고 있다. 1980년대까지 확립된 공학윤리교육의 의의와 한계를 밝히면서 최근 발전하고 있는 공학윤리교육의 특성과 지향점을 살펴본다. 또한 현재 이루어지고 있는 공학윤리교육의 유형을 분석하여 각 유형별 쟁점과 특성을 분석한다. 이제 막 발전하기 시작한 우리나라의 공학윤리교육은 각 대학의 주어진 여건과 상황을 고려하여 독립형 혹은 전공결합형 공학윤리 교육을 적절히 조합하여 추진하는 것이 바람직하다. 무엇보다 공학과 공학 이외 분야의 해당 전문가들 사이의 협력 연구와 교육이 선행되어야 할 것이다.

Teaching Engineering Ethics across National Borders

  • Recently there has arisen an increasing world-wide emphasis on teaching ethics within the engineering curriculum. Much of the teaching has relied on the use of an American model emphasizing autonomy and professional identification. This paper argues that this model is inadequate when engineering is seen in a global perspective, because different cultural values are dominant throughout the world, some of which stand in sharp contrast to traditional Western values based on the primacy of the individual. A new global engineering ethics thus needs to be constructed which takes into account a variety of different cultural values and local circumstances, but which is able to serve as a uniting ethical foundation for engineers throughout the world. The paper suggests that the development of a global code of engineering ethics would be a fruitful way to pursue such a strategy.

정보윤리 담당교사의 전문성 구성 요인 도출 및 검증 (Deduction and Verification of Professionalism Constructing Factors of Teachers Responsible for Information Ethics)

  • 정보화 역기능 현상이 사회적으로 많은 문제를 일으키면서 학교 정보윤리 교육에 대한 필요성과 의무가 강화되고 있다. 그러나 현재 학교 정보윤리 교육은 범교과적으로 교과과정 중 일부 영역에 한정하여 학교 상황과 교사의 재량에 의해 자율적으로 실시하도록 되어있어 학교에서 정보윤리 교육은 교사의 인식과 역량에 의해 크게 좌우되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 정보윤리 교육을 담당하는 교사의 전문성을 규명하기 위하여 일반적인 교사의 전문성 구성 요인으로 부터 정보윤리 교육의 특성을 반영한 정보윤리 담당교사의 전문성 구성 요인을 도출한 후, 32명의 전문가 집단을 대상으로 3차에 걸친 델파이 조사를 실시하였다. 그 결과 정보윤리 담당교사의 전문성으로 지식 요인 10개의 구성 요소, 수행능력 요인 11개의 구성 요소, 인성맥락 요인 7개의 구성 요소가 선정되었다.

간호대생과 의대생의 도덕판단력 발달에 관한 종단적 연구 (A Longitudinal Study on Moral Judgment Development in Nursing and Medical Students)

  • Purpose: In this longitudinal study, we examined the moral judgment level and its related factors, such as individual characteristics. The result of this study will provide baseline data to establish policy of ethics education for college students and healthcare professionals. Method: We enrolled 37 nursing students and 20 medical students as the subjects in a university in Suwon, Korea. We conducted a questionnaire on the subjects using Korean version of Defining Issues Test(DIT) to analyze the subjects' moral judgment level. Collected data was coded using ASCII document and scored using Fortran program for computer. Then the data was statistically analyzed by SPSS Version 10.0. Result: Nursing students' moral development score at each stage were consistently higher at stage 5A across 4-years rather than other stages. On the other hand, medical students' moral development score were consistently higher at stage 4 than other stages. There was no significant difference in the change P(%) score at each academic year in both groups. In the perspective of the subjects' general characteristics, P(%) score showed no significant in both groups. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, further studies will examine the correlation between curriculum and moral judgment development in detail. Moreover, we suggest that the current ethics education should be developed and evaluated in more realistic manner.

Sustainability education in textile and apparel programs in higher education - A web-based content analysis -

  • This study explores sustainability education in textile and apparel (T&A) programs in U.S. higher education institutions. Specifically, the researchers study whether more courses with sustainability focus are offered in higher-ranked institutions and explore whether sustainability is taught more in specific T&A related subject fields. Content analysis was conducted for 3,200 courses found in online course catalogs or the course information sites of 69 institutions. Institutions were selected from the 2015 rankings of the top 50 fashion design and top 50 fashion merchandising schools in the US on www.fashion-schools.org. All cases were coded by two coders with a Cohen's Kappa score of 97.5%, indicating good interrater reliability. Coded data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and t-tests. The findings show that sustainability is being integrated into the curricula and across courses of T&A programs in the U.S. Over half of the institution surveyed offered at least one sustainability embedded course. Higher ranked institutions provided more sustainability-related courses than power-ranked institutions. A natural match between the subject field and specific sustainability theme was observed (e.g., cultural diversity in history/culture and social psychology/education; recycle/reuse in textile science; sustainability in fashion design; social responsibility and ethics in industry/consumer). The need to introduce sustainability in courses holistically is discussed, whereby sustainability within the industry supply chain is examined in a connected way.
