  • This study investigates the effect of the surface microstructure on the tribological characteristics of glass substrates. Chemical etching using hydrofluoric acid and ammonium hydrogen fluoride was employed to create controlled asperity structures on glass surfaces. By varying the etching time from 10 to 50 min, different surface morphologies were obtained and characterized using optical microscopy, surface roughness measurements, and water contact angle analysis. Friction tests were performed using a stainless steel ball as the counter surface to evaluate the tribological behavior of the etched specimens. The results showed that the specimen etched for 20 min exhibited the lowest and most stable friction coefficient, which was attributed to the formation of a uniform and dense asperity structure that effectively reduced the stress concentration and wear at the contact interface. In contrast, specimens etched for shorter (10 min) or longer (30-50 min) durations displayed higher friction coefficients and accelerated wear owing to nonuniform asperity structures that led to local stress concentration. Optical microscopy of the wear tracks further confirmed the superior wear resistance of the 20-minute etched specimen. These findings highlight the importance of optimizing the etching process parameters to achieve the desired surface morphology for enhanced tribological performance, suggesting the potential of chemical etching as a surface modification technique for various materials in tribological applications.

  • The simple and cost-effective microfabrication method of photosensitive glass (PSG) using metal patterning and blank exposure was proposed. Conventional photolithography for micromachining of PSG needs a costly quartz mask which has high transmittance as an optical property. However, in this study the process was improved through the combination of micro-patterned Ti thin film and blank UV exposure without quartz mask. The effect of UV exposure time as well as the DHF etching condition was investigated. UV exposure test was performed within the range from 3 min to 9 min. The color and etch result of PSG exposed for 5 min were the most clear and effective to etch more precisely, respectively. The etching results of PSG in diluted hydrofluoric acid (DHF) with a concentration of 5, 10, 15 vol% were compared. The effect on the side etch was insignificant while the etch rate was proportional as the concentration increased. 10 vol% DHF results not only high etch rate of 75 ${\mu}m/min$ also lower side etch value after PSG etching. This method facilitates the microfabrication of PSG with various patterns and high aspect ratio for applying to advanced applications.

  • We deposited Al-doped ZnO (ZnO:Al) thin films on glass substrates ($200mm{\times}200mm$) by using in-line magnetron sputtering system. Effects of various deposition parameters such as working pressure, deposition power and substrate temperature on optoelectronic characteristics including surface-texture etching profiles were carefully investigated in this study. We found that relatively low working pressure and high deposition power offered to obtain enhanced conductivity and optical transmittance. Haze properties showed similar trend with the transmittance. Furthermore, surface-texture etching study exhibited good morphologies when the films were deposited at $200-300^{\circ}C$. On the basis of these optimizations, we could find the deposition region that produces highly transparent and conductive properties including efficient light scattering capability.

  • We investigated under-gate type carbon nanotube field emitter arrays (FEAs) for back light unit (BLU) in liquid crystal display (LCD). Gate oxide was formed by wet etching of ITO coated glass substrate instead of depositing $SiO_2$ on the glass substrate. Wet etching is easer and simpler than depositing and etching of thick gate oxide to isolate the gate metal from cathode electrode in triode. Field emission characteristic s of triode structure were measured. The maximum current density of 92.5 ${\mu}A/cm^2$ was when the gate and anode voltage was 95 and 2500 V, respectively at the anode-cathode spacing of 1500 ${\mu}m$.

  • Light was of electric lamp was reflected by bulb reflector. In order to improve the efficiency of the electric lamp. it is inevitable that lamp, it is inevitable that improve the reflectance of bulb reflector. Important factors that affect the reflectance of bulb reflector is working pressure, distance between evaporation source to substrate, the situation of surface of glass. etch rate of glass, etc. In this paper. confirmed the effect of etching, working pressure etc. , and its effect for the reflectance of bulb reflector. Especially, concentration of HF in the etching solution and etching time is to be importnace for characteristic of bulb reflector.

  • the photolithographic patterning on an indium-tin oxide (ITO) glass and the electro-phoretic deposition were combined for preparing the screen of the full-color field emission display(FED). the patterns with a pixel of 400$\mu\textrm{m}$ on the ITO-glass were made by etching the ITO with well-prepared etchant consisting of HCL, H2O, and HNO3. Electrophoretic method was carried out in order to deposit each spherical red (R), green(G), and blue (B) phosphor on the patterned ITO-glass. The process parameters such as bias voltage, salt concentration, and deposition time were optimized to achieve clear boundaries. It was found that the etching process of ITO combined with electrophoretic method was cost-effective, provided distinct pattern, and even reduced process steps compared with conventional processes. The application of reverse bias to the dormant electrodes while depositing the phosphors on the stripe pattern was found to be very critical for preventing the cross-contamination of each phosphor in a pixel.

  • Silicon membrane to be used for micropump is fabricated and the deflection of the membrane driven by the electromagnetic force is measured. Silicon and glass are anodic bonded and Si is thinned. Silicon membrane is fabricated by the glass etching. The gold pattern can be protected against HF by the washing and fixing process under the glass etching process. The electromagnetic force is gained by the magnetic field driven by the current flowing through two coils. Deflection of the silicon membrane has a tendency of increasing with the increase of the driving current.
