  • In this paper, we introduce modified parity coding methods to reduce the errors caused by spatial beam intensity variations in a holographic data storage system. We explained the encoding and decoding process of the conventional parity coding and the modified parity coding techniques. We compared the bit-error-rate (BER) performances of the conventional parity coding and the modified parity coding techniques from experimental evaluation.

  • There are three standard weight functions on a linear code viz. Hamming weight, Lee weight, and Euclidean weight. Euclidean weight function is useful in connection with the lattice constructions [2] where the minimum norm of vectors in the lattice is related to the minimum Euclidean weight of the code. In this paper, we obtain an upper bound over the number of parity check digits for Euclidean weight codes detecting and correcting burst errors.

  • Recently, LDPC codes received a lot of attention in 4G. LDPC codes perform good error correction at high SNR. But LDPC codes are complex design and not good at low SNR. At low SNR, convolution codes and turbo codes show more good performance than LDPC codes. The main subject presented in this study is that parallel encoding and decoding according to SNR. The system chooses convolution codes at low SNR and chooses LDPC codes at high SNR.

  • Formation flying is an important technology that enables high cost-effective organization of outer space aircrafts. The ad-hoc wireless network based on direct-sequence ultra-wideband (DS-UWB) techniques is seen as an effective means of establishing wireless communication links between aircrafts. In this paper, based on the theory of matched filter and error bits correction, a hybrid detection algorithm is proposed for realizing multiuser detection (MUD) when the DS-UWB technique is used in the ad-hoc wireless network. The matched filter is used to generate a candidate code set which may contain several error bits. The error bits are then recognized and corrected by an novel error-bit corrector, which consists of two steps: code mapping and clustering. In the former step, based on the modified optimum MUD decision function, a novel mapping function is presented that maps the output candidate codes into a feature space for differentiating the right and wrong codes. In the latter step, the codes are clustered into the right and wrong sets by using the K-means clustering approach. Additionally, in order to prevent some right codes being wrongly classified, a sign judgment method is proposed that reduces the bit error rate (BER) of the system. Compared with the traditional detection approaches, e.g., matched filter, minimum mean square error (MMSE) and decorrelation receiver (DEC), the proposed algorithm can considerably improve the BER performance of the system because of its high probability of recognizing wrong codes. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can almost achieve the BER performance of the optimum MUD (OMD). Furthermore, compared with OMD, the proposed algorithm has lower computational complexity, and its BER performance is less sensitive to the number of users.

  • This paper describes design of a (32, 28) Reed Solomon decoder for optical compact disk with double error detecting and correcting capability. A variety of error correction codes(ECCs) have been used in magnetic recordings, and optical recordings. Among the various types of ECCs, Reed Solomon(RS) codes has emerged as one the most important ones. The most complex circuit in the RS decoder is the part for finding the error location numbers by solving error location polynomial, and the circuit has great influence on overall decoder complexity. We use RAM based architecture with Euclid's algorithm, Chien search algorithm and Forney algorithm. We have developed VHDL model and peformed logic synthesis using the SYNOPSYS CAD tool. The total umber of gate is about 11,000 gates.

  • In this paper, we present a new cぉnet coding method, so called MLC (Multi-Level Codes), for error detection and correction in digital wireless communication. MLC coding method we the same coding procedure wed in the convolutional coding but it is distinguished from the existing convolutional coding in point of generating the code word by using multi-level information data (M-ary signal) and in point of speed of coding procedure Through computer simulation, we analyze the performance of the coding method suggested here compared to convolutional coding method in case of modulo-operation and in case of non-binary coding Procedure respectively under various channel environments.

  • The Berlekamp-Massey algorithm, the method of using the Euclid algorithm, and Fourier transforms over a finite field can be used for the decoding of Reed-Solomon codes (called RS codes). RS codes can also be decoded by the algorithm that was developed by Peterson and refined by the Gorenstein and Zierler. However, the decoding of RS codes using the Peterson-Gorenstein-Zieler algorithm offers sometimes computational or implementation advantages. The decoding procedure of the double-error correcting (31,27) Rs code over the symbol field GF ($2^5$) will be analyized in this paper. The complete analysis, gate array design, and implementation for encoder/decoder pair of (31.27)RS code are performed with a strong theoretical justification.

  • By combining the space-time diversity technique and iterative turbo codes, space-time turbo codes(STTCS) are able to provide powerful error correction capability. However, the multi-path transmission and iterative decoding structure of STTCS make the decoder very complex. In this paper, we propose a low complexity decoder, which can be used to decode STTCS as well as general iterative codes such as turbo codes. The efficient implementation of the backward recursion and the log-likelihood ratio(LLR) update in the proposed algorithm improves the computational efficiency. In addition, if we approximate the calculation of the joint LLR by using the approximate ratio(AR) algorithm, the computational complexity can be reduced even further. A complexity analysis and computer simulations over the Rayleigh fading channel show that the proposed algorithm necessitates less than 40% of the additions required by the conventional Max-Log-MAP algorithm, while providing the same overall performance.
