A study of modeling novel DGS 4-port equivalent circuit for mounting active device (능동 소자의 실장을 위한 새로운 DGS구조와 4-port등가 모델링 방법 연구)

  • This thesis complemented the weak points that the existing theses did not represented a phase characteristic as the equivalent circuit by applying 4-port simulation to DGS (Defected Ground Structure) characteristic and an equivalent circuit, which are the transmission line structure that has the defect made in the ground surface. We used a distribute device and a lumped device, obtained the equivalent circuit by applying the structure of balun to a discontinuous part. An indicated DGS (Defected Ground structure) is a dumbbells-shaped single defect, we indicated satisfying a magnitude and phase characteristics by applying this equivalent circuit.

  • A simple computational model for modeling of subsurface crack growth under cyclic contact loading is presented. In this model, it is assumed that the initial fatigue crack will initiate in the region of the maximum equivalent stress at certain depth under the contacting surface. The position and magnitude of the maximum equivalent stress are determined by using the equivalent contact model, which is based on the Hertzian contact conditions with frictional forces. The virtual crack extension method is used for simulation of the fatigue crack growth from the initial crack up to the formation of the surface pit due to contact fatigue. The relationships between the stress intensity factor and crack length are then determined for various combinations of equivalent contact radii and loadings.

  • The focus of this study is modeling technique for a bellows in vehicle exhaust system. Bellows was developed using tile finite element model by replacing with the equivalent beam. The equivalent beam model were studied in detail. Non-structural node in the cross section of original model is given to expressing their motion. Equivalent mass matrix and stiffness matrix calculated using Guyan reduction method. Material Properties of beam was obtained from the direct comparison between equivalent model and that of Timoshenko beam model. The calculated natural frequencies and mode shape are compared with the reference results and coincided well. The results were compared with the confirmed results, which were in good agreement.

Structural modeling of actuation of IPMC in dry environment: effect of water content and activity

  • Structural modeling of unencapsulated ionic polymer metal composite (u-IPMC) actuators that are used for flapping the insect scale-flapping wing of micro air vehicles (FMAV) in dry environmental conditions is carried out. Structural modeling for optimization of design parameters for retention of water, maximize actuation performance and to study the influence of water activity on the actuation characteristics of u-IPMC is explored for use in FMAV. The influence of equivalent weight of Nafion polymer, cations, concentration of cations, pre-treatment procedures on retention of water of u-IPMCs and on actuation parameters, flapping angle, flexural stiffness and actuation displacement are investigated. IPMC designed with Nafion having equivalent weight 900-1100, pre-heated at $30^{\circ}C$ and with sodium as the cations is promising for optimum retention of water and actuation performance. The actuation parameters while in operation in dry and humid environment with varying water activity can be tuned to desirable frequency, deflection, flap angle and flexural stiffness by changing the water activity and operational temperature of the environment.

  • Maximum Power Point Tracking(MPPT) is used in wind power generation systems to maximize wind power turbin output power, irrespective of wind speed conditions and of the load electrical characteristics. In this paper we do the equivalent modeling the mechanical energy of wind power turbine according to wind speed into the synchronous generator. We analyse the equivalent modeling output part of rectifier into DC/DC converter input part theoretically. We design a control algorithm for variable voltage according to wind speed intensity and density so that load voltage of chopper is controlled steadily using the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control method. We analyse a battery charging characteristics and a charging circuit for power storage enabling the supply of stable power to the load. We design a system and do the modeling of it analytically so that it supplies a stable power to the load by constructing a DC-AC inverter point. Also we design a charging circuit usable in actual wind power generation system of 30kW and confirm its validity.

  • Wind power generation system is one of the most useful energy resource using natural environment. One of the biggest problem we encountered is toot the wind speed is fluctuating sharply according to the weather conditions rather than it is stable. In this paper we do the equivalent modeling the mechanical energy of wind power turbine according to wind speed into the synchronous generator.   • The exhaust system is one of the major sources of vibrations, along with the suspension system and engine. When the exhaust system is connected directly to the engine, it transfers vibrations to the vehicle body through the body mounts. Therefore, in order to reduce the vibrations transmitted from the exhaust system, the vibration characteristics of the exhaust system should be predicted. Thus, the dynamic characteristics of the bellows, which form a key component of the exhaust system, must be modeled accurately. However, it is difficult to model the bellows because of the complicated geometry. Though the equivalent beam modeling technique has been applied in the design stage, it is not sufficiently accurate in the case of the bellows which have complicated geometries. In this paper, we present an improved technique for modeling the bellows in a vehicle. The accuracy of the modeling method is verified by comparison with the experimental results.

Long-term Changes in Wintertime Precipitation and Snowfall over Gangwon Province (강원 지역의 장기 겨울철 강수 및 강설 변화의 경향 분석)

  • The effects of recent climate change on hydrological systems could affect the Winter Olympic Games (WOG) because the event is dependent on suitable snow and ice conditions to support elite-level competitions. We investigate the long-term variability and change in winter total precipitation (P), snowfall water equivalent (SFE), and ratios of SFE to P during the period 1973/74~2015/16 in Gangwon province. The climatological percentages of SFE relative to winter total precipitation were 71%, 28%, and 44% in Daegwallyeong, Chuncheon, and Gangneung, respectively. The winter total P, SFE, and SFE/P has decreased (but not significantly), although significant increases of winter maximum and minimum temperature were detected at a 95% confidence level. Notably, a significant negative trend of SFE/P at Daegwallyeong in February, the month of the WOG, was attributable to a larger decrease in SFE related to the increases in maximum and minimum temperature. Winter wet-day minimum temperatures were warmer than climatological minimum temperatures averaged over the study period. The 20-year return values of daily maximum P and SFE decreased in Yongdong area. Since the SFE/P decrease with increasing temperature, the probability of rainfall rather than snowfall can increase if global warming continues.

  • This paper deals with a novel method of modeling and analyzing multilevel pulse width modulation(PWM) inverter/rectifier, which leads to extraction of equivalent circuit in fundamental frequency domain. By the technique, we can draw out the corresponding linear time invariant circuit even thuogh the actual circuit is switched. A static VAR compensator using five-level inverter is modeled and simulated for the verification of the modeling.
