Specification selection, Layout, specifications and combinations of Power Drives, and Ship motions were studied for FGPP(Floating Gas-fired Power Plants), which are still needed in areas such as the Caribbean, Latin America, and Southeast Asia where electricity is not sufficiently supplied. From this study, the optimal equipment layout in ships was derived. In addition, the difference between engine and turbine was verified through LCOE(Levelized Cost of Energy) comparison according to the type and combination of Power Drives. Analysis of Hs(Significant Height of wave) and Tp(spectrum Peak Period of wave) for places where this FGPP will be tested or applied enables design according to wave characteristics in Brazil and Indonesia. Normalized Sloshing Pressures of FGPP and LNG Carrier are verified using a sloshing analysis program, which is CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) software developed by ABS(American Bureau of Shipping). Power Transmission System is studied with Double bus with one Circuit Breaker Topology. A nd the CFD analysis allowed us to calculate linear roll damping coefficients for more accurate full load conditions and ballast conditions. Through RAO(Response Amplitude Operator) analysis, we secured data that could minimize the movement of ships according to the direction of waves and ship placement by identifying the characteristics of large movements in the beam sea conditions. The FGPP has been granted an AIP(Approval in Principle) from a classification society, the ABS.

The global demand for oil and natural gas has increased, and resource development is moving to the deep sea. Floating and flexible offshore structures such as semi-submersible, spar, and FPSO structures have been widely used. The major equipment of floating structures is always exposed to waves, currents, and other marine environmental factors, which cause structural damage. Moreover, flexible risers are susceptible to an exciting force due to the motion of the floating body. The inline and transverse responses from the three-dimensional behavior of a floating structure occur because of various forces. Typical risers are made of steel pipe and applied in the oil and gas development field, but flexible materials such as polyethylene are suitable for OTEC risers. Consequently, the optimal design of a flexible offshore plant requires a dynamic behavior analysis of slender bodies made of the different materials commonly used for offshore flexible risers. In this study, a three-dimensional motion measurement device was used to analyze the displacements of riser models induced by external force factors, and forced oscillation of a riser was linked to forced oscillation under a steady flow and regular wave condition.
The dynamic structural responses are sensitive to the time-frequency content of seismic waves, and seismic input motions in time-history analysis are usually required to be compatible with design response spectra according to nuclear codes. In order to generate spectra-compatible input motions while maintaining the intrinsic non-stationarity of seismic waves, an improved time-domain approach is proposed in this paper. To maintain the nonstationary characteristics of the given seismic waves, a new time-frequency envelope function is constructed using the Hilbert amplitude spectrum. Based on the intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) obtained from given seismic waves through variational mode decomposition, a new corrective time history is constructed to locally modify the given seismic waves. The proposed corrective time history and time-frequency envelope function are unique for each earthquake records as they are extracted from the given seismic waves. In addition, a dimension reduction iterative technique is presented herein to simultaneously superimpose corrective time histories of all the damping ratios at a specific frequency in the time domain according to optimal weights, which are found by the genetic algorithm (GA). Examples are presented to show the capability of the proposed approach in generating spectra-compatible time histories, especially in maintaining the nonstationary characteristics of seismic records. And numerical results reveal that the modified time histories generated by the proposed method can obtain similar dynamic behaviors of AP1000 nuclear power plant with the natural seismic records. Thus, the proposed method can be efficiently used in the design practices.
Chiller systems which have better temperature stability than Direction expansion coils are often used as condensing units in HVAC systems for offshore plants. Large capacity compressors and electronic expansion valves in chiller systems are mostly imported, and the size of a chiller system depends on heat exchangers such as evaporators and condensers which are locally produced. Due to limited space in the offshore plants, shipyards are demanding manufacturers to make equipment compact. In this paper, a shell & tube heat exchanger, which is used as an evaporator in the conventional flooded chiller system, is replaced by a newly developed compact plate & shell heat exchanger. The main development process of the plate & shell heat exchanger is introduced, and its performances were experimentally evaluated with a real flooded chiller system, and the results are presented.

This study is about a hydrogen mitigation system in a containment building like an offshore or a nuclear plant. A hydrogen explosion is possibly happened after condensation of steam if hydrogen releases with steam in a containment buildings. Passive autocatalytic recombiner is the one of the measures, but the performance of this equipment is not sure because the distribution of hydrogen is very irregular and is not predicted correctly. This study proposes a new approach for improving the hydrogen removing performance with hydrogen-guiding property. The steam is simulated and analysed. The results show that the shallow air containment reduced over 55% of the released hydrogen and the deep air containment type reduces over 80% of released hydrogen.

The design of offshore plants should reflect the various requirements of the owner and the classification society. For a topside module mounted on an of shore structure, the design process is very demanding because of the large spatial constraints and the many requirements related to marine environmental conditions and safety such as the movement of the structure. In this study, the load acting on the hydraulic power unit, which is one of the main equipment in the topside module, was calculated according to the DNVGL rule; the structural safety was evaluated according to each load condition and the structural reliability of the developed product was improved. For structural analysis, MSC software was used, and structural analysis was performed under five load conditions to review structural safety for various movements. The results show that the maximum stress occurred during pitching toward the stern (Load Case 5). The stress level was approximately 85 % of the allowable stress, and the maximum deformation was approximately 5 % of the allowable value. The structural safety was confirmed, and no intermember interference occurred.
This study investigated the methodologies to enhance the corrosion resistance and the ways to measure for subsea equipment made of aluminum. The methodologies for the anticorrosion were cathodic protection, conversion coating, anodizing and organic coating. The simply analyzed ways to measure the corrosion resistance were Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), Glow discharge optical emission spectrum spectroscopy (GD-OES), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Scanning Vibrating Electrode Technique (SVET), contact angle and interfacial tension. The most widely used tools for increasing the corrosion resistance were the anodizing and the organic coating. Many ways were evenly used to measure corrosion. The methods more frequently utilized were SEM for the surface investigation and the contact angle to evaluate the corrosion resistance.

International oil prices are expected to increase from $85 a barrel this year to up to $100 a barrel in the second half of the year; this is likely to increase orders for offshore plants in the global market. One main characteristic of offshore plants is that a large helideck is located on the top side, and aluminum alloys are used as the basic material of the structure for weight reduction and corrosion resistance. Shipowners are increasing the size of helicopters to quickly evacuate lives in the event of an emergency, and the safety use load of devices that can stably secure helicopters to the deck is also required to increase. Owing to the nature of the aluminum material, the structural strength caused by welding is greatly reduced; therefore, the fixing device must be designed by embedding it in the deck and fixing it with bolts. In this study, a model applying aluminum alloy 6082-T6 was developed to develop a helicopter fastening device that can be used for large helidecks (diameter = 28 m). The developed item was verified through nonlinear structural strength calculation to satisfy the load used for the actual fastening condition. The load condition with a 45° showed a lower ultimate strength than the 90° case owing to local plastic collapse. The nonlinear structural collapse behavior showed a result similar to that of the experimental test. The main contents derived from this study are considered to be reference materials when evaluating the structural strength of similar aluminum equipment.

Malfunctioning of telecom systems can have serious implications on the safe navigation and operation of vessels and off-shore plants. Most safety-related accidents incur significant monetary damages and pollution due to complicated arrangements of the working environments and facilities. Therefore, an automated monitoring system that can collect data from configured telecom equipment connected to a network based on IP is required to ensure safe navigation and operation of such crucial institutions. This paper reports a list of such system requirements, system functions, and user-centered requirements based on the NORSOK T-100 (a standard of telecom management system). These findings were made through research with the newly designed and developed telecom management system (TMS). The TMS was tested by a testbed configured with CCTV, PA/GA, and other network equipment.
