  • Transmission electron microscopy(TEM) investigation on the phase decomposition of B2-ordered (Ni,Co)Al supersaturated with Ni and Co has revealed the precipitation of $(Ni,Co)_2Al$ which has not been expected from the reported equilibrium phase diagram. The $(Ni,Co)_2Al$ phase has a hexagonal struture and takes a rod-like shape with the long axis of the rod parallel to the <111> directions of the B2 matrix. By aging at temperatures below 873 K, a long period Superlattice Structure appears in the hexagonal $(Ni,Co)_2Al$ Phase. The orientation relationship between the $(Ni,Co)_2Al$ Precipitates and the B2-(Ni,Co)Al matrix is found to be$(0001)_p$ // $(111)_{B2}$ and $[\bar{1}2\bar{1}0]_P$ // $[\bar{1}10]_{B2}$, Where the suffix p and B2 denote the $(Ni,Co)_2Al$ precipitate and the B2-(Ni,Co)Al matrix, respectively. (Ni,Co)Al hardens appreciably by the fine precipitation of the $(Ni,Co)_2Al$ phase. Energy dispersive spectroscopy was used to analyze the compositions of each phase formed in B2-(Ni,Co)Al.

  • Spring, ground and thermal waters in the vicinity of Mt. Geumjeong and Mt. Baekyang area have been sampled and analyzed for major and minor elements. According to the Piper diagram, spring water belongs to $Ca-HCO_3$ and $Na-HCO_3$ types, groundwater to $Ca-HCO_3$ type, and thermal water to Na-Cl type. Based on the phase stability diagrams of $[Ca^{2+}]/{[H^+]}^2, [Mg^{2+}]/{[H^+]}^2, [K^+]/[H^+]$, and $[Na^+]/[H^+] vs. [H_4SiO_4]$, spring water, groundwater and thermal water are mostly in equilibrium with kaolinite. The result of factor analysis shows three factors (factor 1, 2 and factor 3) for the spring water, the groundwater and the thermal water which are represented by the influence of the dissolution of feldspar, calcite, anthropogenic sources (domestic and industrial wastes) and salt water.

  • An analytical solution is presented for the conduction-dominated solidification of a binary mixture in a semi-infinite medium. The present approach differs from that of other solution by these four characteristics. (1) Solid fraction is determined from the phase diagram, (2) thermophysical properties in mushy zone are weighted according to the local solid fraction, (3) non-equilibrium solidification can be simulated and (4) the cooling condition of under-eutectic temperature can be simulated. Up to now, almost all analyses are based on the assumption of constant properties in mushy zone and solid fraction linearly with temperature or length. The validation for these assumptions, however, shows that serious error is found except some special cases. The influence of microscopic model on the macroscopic temperature profile is very small and can be ignored. But the solid fraction and average solid concentration which directly influence the quality of materials are drastically changed by the microscopic models. An approximate solution using the method of weighted residuals is also introduced and shows good agreement with the analytical solution. All calculations are performed for NH$_{4}$Cl-H$_{2}$O and Al-Cu system.

  • This paper presents a simplified model for approximate analysis of the solute redistribution in coarsening dendrite arms during solidification of binary metal alloys. By introducing a quadratic concentration profile with a time-dependent coefficient, the integral equation for diffusion in the solid phase is reduced to a simple differential relation between the coefficient and the solid-liquid interface position. The solid fraction corresponding to the system temperature is readily determined from the relation, phase equilibrium and the overall solute balance in which the liquid phase is assumed to be completely mixed. In order to validate the developed model, calculations are performed for the directional solidification of Al-4.9 mass Cu alloy. The predicted eutectic fractions for a wide range of the cooling rate reasonably agree with data from the well-known experiment as well as sophisticated numerical analyses. Also, the results for the back diffusion limits are consistent with available references. Additional calculations show that the characteristic parameters such as the coarsening, density variation and nonlinarity in the phase diagram significantly affect the microsegregation. Owing to the simplicity, efficiency and compatibility, the present model may be suitable for the micro-macroscopic solidification model as a microscopic component.

  • Zirconium nitride powders were synthesized at a relatively lower temperature using methane as a reducing agent in the nitridation of zircoia. $ZrO_2$ powder was prepared by a sol-gel technique. The resulting sol-gel was centrifuged, and the gel was washed with deionized water. Anhydrous ammonia was used as the nitrogen source and methane was used as the reducing agent. Conversion diagrams show the equilibrium solid phase as a function of reagent concentrations for a specific temperature and gas pressure for the reagent system $NH_3-ZrO_2-CH_4$. The reagent concentration ranges within which pure ZrN is formed increase with increasing reaction temperature. Low pressure with an excess of hydrogen decreases the reaction temperature at which pure ZrN is formed. Low pressure together with the introduction of excess hydrogen into the reaction system increases Zr and N conversion efficiency and retards C deposition.

  • Education is widely recognized one of main sources for growth. This paper attempts to incorporate the general recognition into formal regional growth model. The model structure is largely neoclassical. It produces a single good with the two factors, educated labor and non-educated labor, via a constant return production migrating to the region with the higher real wage. The educated labor in a region is accumulated by two sources, migration and physical education capital, while the non-educated labor is by only migration. The paper shows that regional growth equilibrium is characterized as a saddle point. This indicates the presence of the minimum threshold size that must be overcome before a region may grow. It contrasts sharply with results obtained in regional growth models. The paper suggests that regional growth is determined less by the technical characteristics of regional production function characteristics of regional production function but by the stock combination of educated function but by the stock combination of education labor and non-educated labor. Based on this result, the impact of agglomeration economies on regional growth is explored. It is by phase diagram demonstrated that the presence of agglomeration economies do not always lead a region to growth since there still exists the minimum threshold even in the presence of agglomeration economies.

  • Even if fibers are practically identical with respect to chemical composition and denier, the dyeabilities are freqently a little different in an industrial processing. It is difficult to interpret the numerical values of dye diffusion coefficients from a dye solution into fibers. The main reasons are the multicomponent nature of the diffusion process and the inhomogeneities of the substrate, so-called, various kinds of ordered and disordered regions of polymers, void and pores. The equilibrium dye adsorptions and dyeing rates of a disperse dye into the several PET fibers having the same denier were determined at various temperatures. The dyeability of examined samples was divided into two groups, that is, lower dye adsorption fiber and higher ones at the lower temperatures. This result was discussed with the degree of crystallinity, DSC diagram, X-ray diffractometry and Porosimetry of the PET fiber, and an appropriate model for fine structure of PET fiber was proposed.

  • To predict and evaluate metallurgical and mechanical behavior of th welds, it is essential to understand solidification behavior and microstructural evolution experienced in the welds, neither of which follows the equilibrium phase diagram because of rapid heating and cooling conditions. Metallurgical phenomena in austenitic stainless steel fusion welds, types 304, 309S, 316L, 321 and 304N, were investigated in this study. Autogenous GTA welding was performed on weld coupons, and primary solidification mode and phase distribution were investigated from the welds. Varestraint test was employed to evaluate solidification cracking susceptibilities of the alloys. GTA weld fusion zones in type 304, 321 and 304N stainless steels experienced primary ferrite solidification while those in type 309S primary austenite solidification. Type 316L exhibited a mixed type of primary ferrite and primary austenite solidification. The primary solidification mode strongly depended on $Cr_{eq}/Ni_{eq}$ ratio. In terms of solidification cracking susceptibility, type 309S that solidified as primary austenite exhibited high cracking susceptibility while the alloys experienced primary ferrite solidification showed low cracking susceptibility. The relative ranking in solidification cracking susceptibility was type 304=type 304N < type 321 < type 316L < type 309S.

  • Dissolution and precipitation behaviors of complex carbonitrides in austenite of a V-Nb microalloyed steel were quantitatively examined through electrical resistivity measurement and transmission electron microscopy. The electrical resistivity increased with solution treatment temperature up to $1240^{\circ}C$ and then was saturated at $225n{\Omega}m$ for a holding time of 10 min. The electrical resistivity method was also used to quantitatively measure the isothermal precipitation kinetics of the complex carbonitrides in austenite. Nb-rich precipitates were observed in austenite at the early stages of precipitation, but Nb was replaced by V up to the equilibrium amount within the precipitates with further holding time. The time-temperature-precipitation diagram showed a C-type curve; nose temperature and its incubation time were $900^{\circ}C$ and 100 s, respectively.

  • An effective approach to promoting sustainability within the construction industry is the use of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) as a substitute for natural aggregates. Ensuring the frost resilience of RAC technologies is crucial to facilitate their adoption in regions characterized by cold temperatures. The main aim of this study was to use the Random Forests (RF) approach to forecast the frost durability of RAC in cold locations, with a focus on the durability factor (DF) value. Herein, three optimization algorithms named Sine-cosine optimization algorithm (SCA), Black widow optimization algorithm (BWOA), and Equilibrium optimizer (EO) were considered for determing optimal values of RF hyperparameters. The findings show that all developed systems faithfully represented the DF, with an R2 for the train and test data phases of better than 0.9539 and 0.9777, respectively. In two assessment and learning stages, EO - RF is found to be superior than BWOA - RF and SCA - RF. The outperformed model's performance (EO - RF) was superior to that of ANN (from literature) by raising the values of R2 and reducing the RMSE values. Considering the justifications, as well as the comparisons from metrics and Taylor diagram's findings, it could be found out that, although other RF models were equally reliable in predicting the the frost durability of RAC based on the durability factor (DF) value in cold climates, the developed EO - RF strategy excelled them all.
