An electret filter is composed of permanently charged electet fibers and is widely used in applications requiring high collection efficiency and low-pressure drop. In this work, the collection efficiency of the filter media used in manufacturing cabin air filters was investigated by using poly-disperse particles when submicron particles are loaded. Long-term experiments were conducted by applying different charging states, which are spray electrification and charge equilibrium by bipolar ionization. In order to investigate on the effect of particle loading in filter media, NaCl particles were generated from 0.1% and 1% solutions by an atomizer. In NaCl 0.1%, the collection efficiency of electret filter decreased and then did not change in equilibrium state. In the case of relative larger particles of NaCl 1%, collection efficiency for the equilibrium charged particles increases due to the particle loading on the filter fibers. Particles charged by spray electrification are small in collection efficiency after equilibrium state and increase of filter media's pressure drop was very low in comparison of the equilibrium charged particles.
The arches may buckle in a symmetrical snap-through mode or in an asymmetry bifurcation mode if the load reaches a certain value. Each bifurcation curve develops as pressure increases. The governing equation is derived according to the bending theory. The balance of forces provides a nonlinear equilibrium equation. Bifurcation theory near trivial solution of the equation is developed, and the buckling pressures are investigated for various spring constants and opening angles.
Purpose : To evaluate the effects of elastic resistance exercise of lumbo-pelvic region and upper limbs muscle on equilibrium ability and shoulder pain of the elderly. Methods : The subject consisted of sixteen healthy elderly people(14 females. 2 males). They were from 61 to 83 years old and the mean age was 68.06. All subjects were assigned only the elastic resistance exercise group. The subject group received elastic resistance exercise for about 60 minutes per day, two times per weeks, during 8 weeks period. A Stop watch was used to measure static equilibrium ability and dynamic equilibrium ability and then pressure algometer was used to measure shoulder press pain threshold. All measurements of each subjects were measured at pre-experiment and post-experiment stage. SPSS 12.0 program was used to compile results. A Paired samples t-test was conducted to examine changes of static equilibrium, dynamic equilibrium and shoulder press pain threshold between pre-experiment and post-experiment. Results : The static equilibrium ability, dynamic equilibrium ability and shoulder press pain threshold were significantly differences between pre-experiment and post-experiment(p<.05). Conclusion : This data suggests that an eight week elastic resistance exercise improved static equilibrium ability and dynamic equilibrium ability and then reduced shoulder pain.
The present study is mainly motivated to investigate the vaporization, auto-ignition, and combustion of liquid fuel spray injected into high pressure environment. The unsteady, multi-dimensional models were used for realistic simulation of spray as well as prediction of accurate ignition delay time. The Separated Flow (SF) model which considers the finite rate of transport between liquid and gas phases was employed to represent the interactions between spray and gas field. Among the SF models, the Discrete Droplet Model (DDM) which simulates the spray using finite number of representative samples of discrete droplets was adopted. The Eulerian-Lagrangian formulation was used to analyze the two-phase interactions. In order to predict an evaporation rate of droplet in high pressure environment, the high pressure vaporization model was applied using thermodynamic equilibrium and phase equilibrium at droplet surface. The high pressure effect as well as high temperature effect was considered in the calculation of liquid and gas properties. In case of vaporization, an interaction between droplets was studied through the simulation of spray. The interaction is shown up differently whether the ambient gas field is at normal pressure or high pressure. Also, the characteristics of spray behavior in high pressure environment were investigated through the comparison with normal ambient pressure case. In both cases, the spray behaviors are simulated through the distributions of temperature and reaction rate in gas field.
The effect of pressure and temperature on the stabilities of the charge transfer complexes of hexamethyl benzene with iodine in n-hexane has been investigated by UV-spectrophotometric measurements. In this experiment the absorption spectra of mixed solutions of hexamethyl benzene and iodine in n-hexane were measured at 25, 40 and $60^{\circ}C$ under 1,200, 600, 1200 and 1600 bar. The equilibrium constant of the complex formation was increased with pressure while being decreased with temperature raising. Changes of volume, enthalpy, free energy and entropy for the formation of the complexes were obtained from the equilibrium constants. The red shift at higher pressure, the blue shift at higher temperature and the relation between pressure and oscillator strength were discussed by means of thermodynamic functions. In comparison with the results in the previous studies, it can be seen that the pressure dependence of oscillator strength has a extremum behavior in durene as the variation of ${\Delta}H$ or ${\Delta}S$ with the number of methyl groups of polymethyl benzene near atmospheric pressure in the previous study. The shift or deformation of the potential in the ground state and in the excited state of the complexes formed between polymethyl benzene and iodine was considered from the correlation between the differences of the electron transfer energies and the differences of free energies of the complex formation for the pressure variation.

Gas hydrates are crystalline solids in which gas molecules (guests) are trapped in water cavities (hosts) that are composed of hydrogen-bonded water molecules. During the formation of gas hydrates in seawater, the equilibria and kinetics are then affected by salinity. In this study, the effects of salinity on the equilibria of $CO_2$ and R134-a gas hydrates has been investigated by tracing the changes of operating temperature and pressure. Increasing the salinity by 1.75% led to a drop in the equilibrium temperature of about $2^{\circ}C$ for $CO_2$ gas hydrate and $0.38^{\circ}C$ for R-134a gas hydrate at constant equilibrium pressure; in other words, there were rises in the equilibrium pressure of about 1 bar and 0.25 bar at constant equilibrium temperature, respectively. The kinetics of gas hydrate formation have also been investigated by time-resolved in-situ Raman spectroscopy; the results demonstrate that the increase of salinity delayed the formation of both $CO_2$ and R134-a gas hydrates. Therefore, various ions in seawater can play roles of inhibitors for gas hydrate formation in terms of both equilibrium and kinetics.
This paper describes the quantitative analysis on the improvement of equilibrium sensory using virtual bicycle system. We have used a virtual bicycle system that combines virtual reality technology with a bicycle. In this experiment, 10 subjects were tested to investigate the influencing factors on equilibrium sensory. Straight road and curved road driving at several factors including cycling time, number of times of path deviation, and center of pressure(COP) were extracted and evaluated to quantify the extent of control. Also, To improve the effect of balance training, we investigated the usefulness of virtual feedback information by weight shift. The result showed that the system could be effective for equilibrium sensory rehabilitation training device. The analysis method might also have wider applicability to the rehabilitation field.
Gas hydrate is a special kind of inclusion compound that can be formed by capturing gas molecules to water lattice in high pressure and low temperature conditions. When referred to standard conditions, $1m^3$ solid hydrates contain up to $172Nm^3$ of methane gas, depending on the pressure and temperature of production. Such large volumes make natural gas hydrates can be used to store and transport natural gas. In this study, three-phase equilibrium conditions for forming methane hydrate were theoretically obtained in aqueous single electrolyte solution containing 3wt% NaCl. The results show that the predictions match the previous experimental values very well, and it was found that NaCl acts as an inhibitor.
This paper proposes a new training system for equilibrium sense using unstable platform. This training system for equilibrium sense consists of an unstable platform, a computer interface circuit and software program. Postural instability changes the weighting of different types of sensory information and the state of the equilibrium maintenance system. In order to improve the equilibrium sense, we developed software program such as a block game, sine curve training (SCT) and pingpong game using Visual C++. Using this system and training programs, we performed an experiment to train the equilibrium sense of a subject. To evaluate the effects of balance training, the time maintained on the target and the moving time to the target are measured. As a result, the moving time to the target and time to maintain cursor on the target improved through repeating equilibrium sense training. It was concluded that this system was reliable in the evaluation of equilibrium sense. We expect that this system might be applied to clinical use as an effective balance training system.
Fixed boundary MHD static equilibrium for the axisymmetric toroidal plasma is analyzed numerically. The Grad-Shafranov equation is solved using FFM. The toroidal current tenn is expressed by plasma pressure p($\psi$) and toroidal field function g($\psi$). The numerical results are compared to the Solovev analytic equilibrium for the verification of the analysis. For SNUT-79 tokamak device in Seoul National University, flux surfaces and toroidal current profiles according to the variation of p and g profiles are observed. Also the safety factor q and average beta are obtained.
