  • The error are equation of DC-CDMA/MDPSK signal has been derived in m-distribution and Rician fading channels. Predeteception multipath MRC(Maximal Ratio Combining) diversity technique is employed for improving the bit error rate performance. The suitability of modeling a Rician fading environment by properly chosen m-distribution model is examined. Using the derived equation the error performance has been evaluated and shown in figures as a function of PN code sequence length(N), user number(U), multipath number(P), fading index(m), Rician factor(K), number of diversity branches(L) and ($E_b/N_o$). The results show that the error performance in Rician fading agrees well with that in m-distribution fading as fading becomes weak and as user number(U) increases and as multipath number(P) increases and diversity number(L) increases.

  • This paper deals with the static optimal shapes of simple beams which are subjected to a vertical point load. The area and second moment of inertia of the regular polygon cross-section of the tapered beams are determined, which have always same volume and same length for the parabolic taper. The differential equation governing the elastic curve is derived using the small deflection theory and solved numerically. By using the numerical results of deflections, rotations and bending stresses of such beams, the optimal shapes, namely, optimal section ratios, of the beams subjected to a single point load according to variation of load position parameters are determined and presented in the figures. Examples of the static optimal shapes for beams with a single load and multiple loads are reported. The design process of this study can be used directly for the minimum weight design of simple beams.

  • The free vibration analysis of fluid conveying Timoshenko pipeline with different boundary conditions using Differential Transform Method (DTM) and Adomian Decomposition Method (ADM) has not been investigated by any of the studies in open literature so far. Natural frequencies, modes and critical fluid velocity of the pipelines on different supports are analyzed based on Timoshenko model by using DTM and ADM in this study. At first, the governing differential equations of motion of fluid conveying Timoshenko pipeline in free vibration are derived. Parameter for the nondimensionalized multiplication factor for the fluid velocity is incorporated into the equations of motion in order to investigate its effects on the natural frequencies. For solution, the terms are found directly from the analytical solution of the differential equation that describes the deformations of the cross-section according to Timoshenko beam theory. After the analytical solution, the efficient and easy mathematical techniques called DTM and ADM are used to solve the governing differential equations of the motion, respectively. The calculated natural frequencies of fluid conveying Timoshenko pipelines with various combinations of boundary conditions using DTM and ADM are tabulated in several tables and figures and are compared with the results of Analytical Method (ANM) where a very good agreement is observed. Finally, the critical fluid velocities are calculated for different boundary conditions and the first five mode shapes are presented in graphs.

  • The calculation of active earth pressure behind retaining wall is a typical three-dimensional (3D) problem with spatial effects. With the help of limit analysis, this paper firstly deduces the internal energy dissipation power equations and various external forces power equations of the 3D retaining wall under the nonlinear strength condition, such as to establish the work-energy balance equation. The pseudo-static method is used to consider the effect of earthquake on active earth pressure in horizontal state. The failure mode is a 3D curvilinear cone failure mechanism. For the different width of the retaining wall, the plane strain block is inserted in the symmetric plane. By optimizing all parameters, the maximum value of active earth pressure is calculated. In order to verify the validity of the new expressions obtained by the paper, the solutions are compared with previously published solutions. Agreement shows that the new expressions are effective. The results of different parameters are given in the forms of figures to analysis the influence caused by nonlinear strength parameters.

  • An understanding of interrelationships among basic characteristics of vehicular traffic flow, such as volum, speed, headtime, and density, is of prime importance. Similarly in providing proper level of servicebility in the field of base of design and traffic control, it is deeply connected. After all, with a view to improve traffic flow characteristics, future efforts about the mutual function development between rod and traffic should be made on the basis of present traffic characteristics. This paper figures out some traffic characteristics from field data and provides proper model of equation to estimate traffic volume on the road.

  • An analytical research on buckling of simply supported thin plate with variable thickness under bi-axial compression is presented in this paper. Combining the perturbation technique, Fourier series expansion and Galerkin methods, the linear governing differential equation of the plate with arbitrary thickness variation under bi-axial compression is solved and the analytical expression of the critical buckling load is obtained. Based on that, numerical analysis is carried out for the plates with different thickness variation forms and aspect ratios under different bi-axial compressions. Four different thickness variation forms including linear, parabolic, stepped and trigonometric have been considered in this paper. The calculated critical buckling loads and buckling modes are presented and compared with the published results in the tables and figures. It shows that the analytical expressions derived by the theoretical method in this paper can be effectively used for buckling analysis of simply supported thin plates with arbitrary thickness variation, especially for the stepped thickness that used in engineering widely.

  • This article studies the effects of heat generation/absorption and thermal radiation on the unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Casson fluid flow past a vertical plate through rotating porous medium with constant temperature and mass diffusion. It is assumed that the plate temperature and concentration level are raised uniformly. For finding the exact solution, a set of non-dimensional partial differential equations is solved analytically using the Laplace transform technique. The influence of various non-dimensional parameters on the velocity are discussed, including the effects of the magnetic parameter M, heat generation/absorption Q, thermal radiation parameter R, Prandtl number Pr, Schmidt number Sc, permeability of porous medium parameter, Casson fluid parameter γ, on velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles, which are discussed through several figures. It is found that velocity, temperature, and concentration profiles in the case of heat generation parameter Q, Casson fluid parameter γ, thermal Grashof number Gr, mass Grashof number Gc, Permeability Porous medium parameter K, and time t have retarding effects. It is also seen that the magnetic field M, Thermal Radiation parameter R, Prandtl field Pr, Schmidt number Sc have reverse effects on it.

  • The error rate equation of QPSK signal received through m-distribution fading channel in tone interference and Gaussian noise environments has been derived and evaluated numerically to be shown in figures. The derivation has been done for two cases. The one case is that only the signal is under the influence of fading and the another case is that signal and interference are under the influence of fading simultaneously. The evaluated results show that the error that performance when fading influences signal and interference simultaneously is worse than that when fading influence signal only. Also the results show that a late amount of improvement can be gained by direct sequence spread spectrum system and the amount of improvement becomes small as the influence of interference and fading becomes small.

  • The error rate equation of MSK(Minimum Shift Keying) signal transmitted through the fading channel has been derived in the interference and impulsive noise environments. The error rate performance of MSK system have been evaluated and shown in figures as parameters of carrier-to-noise power ratio(CNR), carrier-to-interferer power ratio(CIR), impulsive index, the ratio of Gaussian noise power component to impulsive noise power component, and fading figure. The results show that, in the fading environment, the error is occurred more frequently by Gaussian noise in the deep fading, however in the shallow fading, impulsive noise is more dominant than Gaussian noise. And in thepresence of interference and fading, interferer deteriorates the MSK receiving system severely even if the interferer is weak.

  • The differential equations governing both the free vibrations and buckling loads of tapered beam-columns of circular cross-section with constant volume are derived and solved numerically. The effects of axial load are included in the differential equations. The parabolic equation is chosen as the variable radius of circular cross-section for the tapered beam-column. In numerical examples, the clamped-clamped, clamped-hinged and hinged-hinged end constraints are considered. The variations of the frequency parameters and buckling load parameters with the non-dimensional system parameters are presented in figures and the configurations of strongest columns are obtained.
